Yesterday...

After 2 yellow mornings, we're back to pink. This is the 6th cycle on 6 units since we saw green on this dose. He bounced later that day, but went down to yellow after getting the next dose, so I don't think his BG is currently in the 300s because of a bounce...

Chino is using both litterboxes and hasn't pissed on anything inside the apartment yet today, though I've still got 3 large boxes on the couch he pissed on twice that block him from getting back on it. I ordered Feliway spray yesterday, got some calming treats at Pet Supermarket, and ordered this magical litterbox fairydust that @Wendy&Neko recommended that has a lot of compelling testimonials in the reviews.

I'm going to stop getting a daytime +4, since it has never told me anything useful, and it has never been below 300. Though I might resume once I manage to get him into blues and greens.

The things people know on this site amaze me!!! I would never had known there was a little box attractant you could buy!

Sorry to hear about Chino's peeing problem. That is one of the worst things to have to deal with and highly highly stressful! What have you been using to clean up the smell? Before Ozzy was diagnosed with FD, someone peed outside the LB on the rug on the floor by the couch, in the kitchen on the floor (BIG puddle) and in the bathroom on the rug. We really thought it was Figgie but after learning that Ozzy has diabetes, I'm pretty sure it was him. We bought the nature's miracle and used it heavily on the rug by the couch. The other two spots were on tile so were easy to clean and replacing the bathroom rug was easy. I have read others who use vinegar, baking soda, and other products. Just curious what has worked for you.

Hope this gets figured out quickly to save your apartment. I'd be keeping him out of your room for sure because I'd just absolutely loose it if my cat peed on my bed.

Good luck!!

I used Woolite Pet +Oxygen spray. The bottle says "pherobloc anti-resoiling agent" and I'm not entirely sure how effective it is yet, since I haven't given him a chance to pee in the same spot. I've kept a large box on that cushion so he can't get to it even if he tries. But it does a great job of getting vomit stains out of beige carpet.

Before I sold my house and moved for my job, I had a guest room that the cats weren't allowed in so family members who are allergic to cats could stay there. While I was traveling for work, someone came by to measure the room to give an estimate for new carpet and he left the door open. Chino got in and peed on the bed. When my ex-wife and I first got married and were on our honeymoon, the sitter left our bedroom door open and he got in and peed in our laundry basket. So he isn't allowed in bedrooms anymore, and neither is the fuzzball because it wouldn't be fair to Chino if I just allowed Fox.

I agree wtih you, I think his BG is high cause he needs more juice. This is a particularly frustrating part of the game. You think you've caught up to the tumour output with some blues and greens, then it takes off again and you have to chase it again.

I agree, with Chino in pinks, it's not much value. But it may be of interest if he's starting lower. On Lantus I used to always get a +3 or +4, but if she started below 120, then I had to get earlier tests. The cycle action can be different if they are lower.

Paws crossed hitting the pee issue from multiple angles will solve it. :bighug:

First cycle on 6.5 units. While I didn't expect to see an improvement on the first cycle, it's still disappointing to see a +2 that's higher than the PMPS. It's hard to believe we'll ever get to a point where the highest BG is in the 200's, let alone 100's. At least I'm rarely seeing red now... How high does the long-acting insulin dose have to get before regular insulin becomes an option?

I should record Chino snoring one of these days. Some days, it's cute, and some days it's just ridiculous! :p Though he's done it since he was little.

I'm just now getting back on the board and wanted to respond to the comments about treating acros. I have never had a moment of regret for getting Punkin treated with the SRT. Even though he only lived 1.5 years afterwards, I knew that I'd given him every chance. While I've always loved my cats, Punkin was extraordinary and I couldn't bear the thought of not treating him.

If you haven't noticed it already, I do have links in my signature block to his SRT "adventure" including my cost comparisons at the time. Might be of interest to you.

Glad you went ahead and increased to 6.5u. People told me that the important numbers were the blood sugar, not the dose - so I did try to focus on that and not get too attached to any dose Punkin was on.

As far as his +2 being higher than preshot, remember that there is a 20% variance on glucometers that is allowed by law. In other words, a test of 300 is the same as a test of 240-360 (+ or - 20%), so really Chino is pretty flat tonight. Don't let that discourage you - you'll be able to get on top of his numbers if you continue increasing when his numbers tell you to.
