it's 7. 1/2+ into the cycle.
next shot due in 2.5 hrs he probably won't go high enough in 2.5 hrs for me to give his shot don't you think? should I feed him then and wait 1 hr?
I wonder if he is going to each much though

Okay, help me...it is +7.5 into the cycle and you are shooting in 2.5 more hours? That would be a 10 hour cycle. Something isn't adding up.

If he normally eats now, then let him eat some. If not, he doesn't need food to keep his number high.
If you are going to feed him before his shot in 2.5 hours, then you should do that now. If you wait longer, then the number you get at shot time is going to "look higher" because of the boost to his BG just from eating.
We usually advise people not to let kitty eat for the two hours leading up to AMPS or PMPS so that there isn't any "food" in the test number.

Good, I can't stay up super late tonight, but I will still be around in 2.5 hours if you need any help or have any questions.

wow, I thought I was good at math. all I saw was 2.5 hours till shot time. Thanks Kim!

lol and I am taking a math class this semester too. how emabarassing
I need to give his insulin at 9:50pm mountain time which is in 4 hrs and 20 min :D

so either way his pm should be 0.75u since 1u was a mistake. I just wonder if he will be high enough (and how high are we talking about?) to get his shot.

The good news is..that makes this cycle even look better. The nadir was perfect and now you have 4.5 hours to go up and Sam should be shootable by then!

Let's see where he is at PMPS before deciding the dose. I am NOT saying to give 1 unit tonight, BUT it looked good on that cycle. Test and post your pmps and hopefully, someone will be around to help you. If no one is online to help you, always dose conservatively. Better safe than sorry!

OK then. In that case, I will be snoring at shot time. However, Sue will still be awake (please verify Sue!), and I will be around until 10ish (I think mountain time is 2 hours behind?) eastern time. LIke I told Sue in a message earlier.....eastern time is "real time". they had to invent time zones for all you western folks.

Anyway, about food. If he is due to eat, it's fine to feed him. Just don't let him eat during the two hours leading up to the PMPS test.

Carl

ok will do that, will let him eat a little now but take the bowl from him 2 hrs leading to his shot.
I will post his test here and see if anyone is available to suggest dosage.

You are funny Carl LOL you east coast people are something else
You go to bed early on Saturday nigh. Don't you have lots of parties in the super cool east coast?

Yes, I can check in later but would like some brainstorming now?

I think I am uncomfortable with the one unit, but you guys know I am conservative. It was okay today, but she started with a 400. And she did give some gravy so it could have gone lower. If she is closer to the 200 range tonight, how about .5? If 300, .75?

He is finally having some "normal" looking cycles. I don't want to lose momentum, but I want him to be safe.

Nadja,

Normally I'm a late night-owl. However, tomorrow is my 4th day of 7 straight 5:30am till 2 PM work days, so my alarm screems at me at 4:30 in the morning (and every 9 minutes after that until I stop hitting the snooze button!). So even 10ish is pushing it.

Sue,
I will be right back with my input towards the brainstorming...
Carl

We have tractor pulls, pig pick in's, and keg parties on Saturday nights in the Southeast!

OK,
That didn't take long.
Today he did very very well on 1 unit. So well that I would expect a little bouncing from that green nadir, so I am guessing his PMPS might be high, or as Laurie said in Donna's thread, the bounce might even show up later than that. He might have a reasonable (pink or low red) PMPS, then get less obvious reaction to the dose tonight, and give you a curve that looks flat or inverse.

So, I am thinking .75 would be better. And if he's not above 400, I think I'd even go with .5 tonight. Just in case he is a little over-sensitive to the insulin after dropping so low today. He wasn't "Hypo" low, but from 465 to 64 in six hours? That's a huge drop. 86% worth of drop.

Carl

no, that's a pig pickin, sue. you take a half or whole pig, you stick it on a slow-cook grill all day while consuming mass quantities of beer, and then you pick parts off and chow down. Yummmmmmyyyyy!!!!

Carl

A Pig Pickin! It is when you cook a whole pig over a large wood fired or gas grill. Everyone in the Southeast (except me!) has a pig cooker. Most people have there grills on wheels and pull it behind their truck to the cookout! It is like the "cool" thing to do! You then stand around the grill and "pick" the pig--eat what meat you like.

And, the Tractor Pulls are the ultimate entertainment for the "people" after eating the pig.....you take your tractor and someone else tractor and hitch a chain between them and pull.....to see which one is strongest! These are the same people that call me crazy for taking care of my Diabetic pets!

I really do need to move from here....I like Wine and Filets!

sort of like an oyster roast, but it takes longer to put together...

lol
kind of like "chicken" with cars, only in reverse....

and I'm a damned Yankee! I had to learn all this stuff just so I could fit in here. lol

 haha_smiley haha_smiley haha_smiley

absolute best thread of the day... I'm laughing so hard I'm cryin......

Nope, and if I ever visit, and you offer an oyster roast.....I'm a vegetarian that day!

yes I don't feel comfortable with 1u either! I think I might go with 0.5u tonight since I will be sleeping and won't be checking on him (I don't feel like partying in the amazing town , full of life that I live in, where places close earlier in the weekends  LOL)
so if he is over 400's I will give him 0.725u, if he is less I will give 0.5u.

LOl this sounds like fun, much more alive than over here in the desert

Nadja,
Yes, we didn't mean to hijack your thread. That sort of just happens in PZI every so often.
I think that your plan is good. That "oops" dose this morning ended up being a really good thing actually. Not only did you learn more about the difference in syringes, but you got to see what 1u would do for Sam, and you got to deal with a "crisis" in a low number and running out of strips at the same time. I'd say a good day all around.

Carl

LOL you guys are so funny! I had a vivid visual of the pig pickin situation and the tractors Oh my gosh!!!1
well this is far more entertaining than over here in the desert but hopefully I will move out of here before I go nuts which such a boring lifestyle.

Anyways back to my little Sam. he is higher than 400's I will give him 0.75u, if he is less 0.5u. and tomorrow I wills tart on 0.75u.

I will keep you posted :D

Good, so he isn't rocketing upward. Looks like you'll probably be going with the .5 tonight.

Carl

whoa! I just tested Sam and he is 453. I actually tested him again because the first time was 464 and it was too high I thought because he tested 192 2 hrs ago!!!!
it's 11.5+, he eating now and I will give him his shot. Now I'm wondering if I should give him 0.75u or less. I think for tonight I will give him 0.5u even though he tested higher than what I was expecting, because I will be sleeping and won't be able to keep an eye on him. What do you think? or do you think it's safe fo rme to try 0.75u for the first time?

he is not really eating too much too which concerns me :/ he has been always super picky about his food, we call him a "diva" because of it :/

Go with your gut, Nadja,. Either dose should be fine. The .5 is probably the safest but the .75 would be fine too.

This is one of those times when both choices are doable, you decide. :-D

thanks Sue for replying on a Saturday night :-D I will go with 0.5u tonight and start on 0.75u tomorrow morning :] I'm surprised how fast he went up, double the amount in 5 hrs :-|
