For today I proudly offer Mannie's special 10 hr energy coffee, and triple shot espressos, with beans from deep within the mountain slopes of Argentina, AND.... for all my Mocha fans: A venti quad pumpkin spice mocha, laced with cimmamum and nutmeg, topped with a caramel infused whip cream, garnished with pumpkin nut crunch, cimmamum sugar clusters and a dusting of cocoa... OOOOOOOOOOO! PRIMO! Only the best for all my customers....OH! Tea infusions too, by request. They is primo too! I SWEAR! Today: pumpkin spice chai! Psssstttt.... I gots scones and croissants too!

Yesterday was..... OMG Day in MannieLand. Mannie had such a great night the night before: he made the green lagoon, in rather dramatic fashion. It was so great to see him have greens! Of course the dramatic fashion in which he got there, the FDMB Olympic Diving Champion was in prime form and took a very nice dive to get to that lagoon, well.... it was no surprise that the next morning found him beyond the stratosphere... like the alpha zone. It was really disheartening to see him there as I had really thought we might be done with the letter floor. It seems that Mr Liver had other ideas, and sent Mannie flying. Yesterday was kinda ugly, but he did make a slow slide down from "that floor" and found a low level red by pmps, even a yellow in the PM cycle. I hope for a good day today, more blues would be so cool! Mannie - here's to you, some very strong feel better, be blue vines. Lubs ya big guy! cat_pet_icon

Today I will see if I can get a hold of his IM Vet. There are a few questions that need to be answered, and I really wold love to know when we will have test results. I am supposed tor start the amlodopine for his BP this week, but really don't want to do that until we know what is illness really is. It may not me the best meds for him now that we know he has adrenal issues.... He also receives a cabalamin injection once a week, and I need to get her impute on that as well. and the potassium supplement too, as it really does not seem to be helping his muscle issues either. Never a dull moment in MannieLand. so.... I sure hope IM Vetty is available today. She is mega busy....

All is well in MannieLand. :-D :-D He had a good day on Sunday. It was a subdued one. Rotten weather days seem to be that way for him: he is in sleep mode most of the day. He did take a venture out onto the deck for a bit in between weather systems, and camped out with us for breffis. all good things. He let Elsa play with the nanners again, but then promptly went and reclaimed them . It just cracks me up when he does that. :lol: :lol: Life is good in MannieLand. Appy has been good (picky !!!, but good), CPC yesterday and this morning, LB is normal, Ketones tests have been negative. Test was good this morning, as was the shoot. :cool: I think I can still say: Normalcy in MannieLand. :-D

Have a great day everyone! I have no clue what will be here today - nothing is really planned. I hope maybe to get out on a hike, weather permitting. I did make it our for a short hike here at home. I discovered too the other day that Picassa also uploads the videos. so... look for the picture with the little triangle in the middle that indicates video. I took one yesterday of the waves at the shore, just for fun.... and don't get too excited: we do not get BIG waves... :lol: :lol: :lol:

I've been away so long I didn't realize until yesterday that there was a possible 'issue' with Mannie. I've been reading through some posts and Hillary updated me some and I hope you get some answers soon so you can move forward with a treatment plan.
It amazes me how you keep your good sense of humor through thick and thin. You are truly awesome. And so is Mannie! COME ON DOWN you handsome lug!You look MUCH more betterer in yellow, blue and green!!!

I hope you hear something today.

Hi Michelle.

That's a mighty yucky +2, but you know Mannie is famous for his spikes at that time. He'll be down again.....probably is, as I write this.
I hope you get to talk to IM doc soon. It has to be so frustrating for you, to have to wait to get the meds straightened out.

Is the cobalamin for weak muscles? Does it work the same as the B12 stuff (methyl something) that others take?

If you get his bp under control, will he then no longer need to take the extra potassium? I had to take pot. supplements at one point, until we got my bp under control with correct meds. I try to get enough from foods now.

I'm sorry you have all this anxiety waiting to hear from doc.
I hope you have found something fun to do today.

I wonder if he could be bouncing from the 20% carb food that you gave him 2 days ago...? {{{{{{{{{{MICHELLE & MANNIE}}}}}}}}}} Have you considered staying with 1 low carb food and see if that'll help lower his BGs any? Just a thought. Blackie needs company. :lol:

Michelle, i hope you can touch base with the IM vet today. You have good questions that need to be answered. And I agree that you should hold off on the extra meds until you get those answers. The last thing Mannie needs right now are drug conflicts. Anyway, sending positive thoughts for the test results. It has got to be stressful when you are unsure what you have to deal with.

Oh ugh again! I think Tess is on her way up to (hopefully!) show him the way back down. ohmygod_smile I hope you can get your results soon and get a comprehensive plan set out. Ask about CoQ10 too. It's supposed to help BP meds work better. I've been giving Tess a little, I take a gel cap pierce it w/ a lancet and squeeze a couple of drops on her food. She doesn't notice. And I take the rest of it myself! :lol:

For some stupid reason, unknown to me, my bean poked my ear last night! Lucky for it, it really didn't hurt, but I didn't tell her that. I heard that thing beep and waited, the bean gave me some pets and said I was a lovely 73! What does that mean? I dunno, but I'm 73 and I want to parteee! I want to eat new fuds and have fun....so get a cookin and let's get this parteee started!

Oh and the bean says thanks for her tea and croissants and now she talks funny she thinks she is an English bean! Silly beanhead.....

Hi Barb ~O) ~O) ~O) Do you believe that +2?? sheshhhh.... ugly for sure! He's brought it down some, but I tell ya these bounces are hard to deal with. and yes on the food spikes - he always does that, drives me nuts when they are big ones. :lol: yeah - not a big fan of all this waiting... aiyee! I should hear something today, results if nothing else. The cobalamin (B12 +) is primarily for gastrointestinal health, recommended by the vet for a kitties dealing with P'titis to keep the intestinal tract healthy. I'm sure there is more involved with it than that, but most is beyond me... :roll: Right now for his muscle weakness he is on potassium supplements (tumil-K). It could be on the BP. I think the issue with the aldosterone (SP!) (adrenal stuff) levels is also tied in with his BP issues too. I believe too the the low potassium is a result of that too. I dunno... the interconnections are so vast. Hopefully is we get eh adrenals under control the rest will folow suit.... I SO WISH I WAS VET TECH SAAVY! :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: and yes - working on that fun stuff -----> Taxes. :lol: :lol: :lol:

The carbs, plus the drastic drop so fast, and his just not being used to the greens.... :shock: Oh yes on trying to stay with the low carb foods. I try for all meals. There are days though when he simply will not eat it. and there we sit having to feed a higher carb food. darn picky cat! :lol:

The IM Vet did not want me to add the BP meds until the issue with the potassium/adrenals/etc was resolved. So... a talk is needed. time just keeps moving forward, Mannie deserves to be too! and yes on the stress... some days are better than others: directly related on how good of a day he has had. so.... sure hope to get some sort of a plan in the works today. I hope she has another alternative for the potassium. So sweet when Mannie lets Elsa play with the nanners, but only til he's ready to reclaim. :lol:

458 @ +9, ugh, and it is also normal spike time, so I really hope we can find the lower floors come PMPS.

AND !!!!! CUSHINGS TEST WAS NEGATIVE!!! WOOT WOOT WOOT WOOT! I'm a bit unclear on the specifics, but his reading was a 5, and I guess anything over a 13 is considered positive. SO... A relief there. It is beginning to look like he has aldosteronism, which summed up is an excessive concentration of the hormone aldosterone. Which affects alot of things.... including hypertension. anyways we will be adding a new med (spironolactone SP??) to the mix to try and control that. I'm told this med will help with potassium retention and sodium excretion. that's about all I know, at this point, and I have reading to do... very techie stuff! :roll: :roll: :roll: :roll: :roll: We will run with this med mix for two weeks and then retest potassium levels ad his BP. Paws crossed folks that this works....
I am so relieved that we are not dealing with Cushings... though I wonder how much better this DX is. :roll: ;-) :lol:


Hi Ann - I finally talked to her, and a plan is in place. I am relived... though I now need to reread on the thing... We still need to keep the potassium, but this additional med should help with the adrenals and what they are doing too much of. -- and yes on Mannie and Elsa - it does make one feel good.

WOOT WOOT!!! Dancing over here!!! When I talked to a vet (husband of a fellow rower who is also a vet) last year, he had asked if I had Neko tested for Cushings based on higher dose and being female, so I had done a little research at the time. That was before her acro dx. Plus I had a friend with a drooler with Cushings.

I am SO GLAD it's not Cushings!! It sounds like now you have a plan and diagnosis and can proceed. Yipee! And you can go out and get a hike it to unwind. What a relief. Hope it's not too windy there, it's dying down here now.

Michelle.....I am sooooooo happy, it is not Cushings, and all I know about it is the skin tears easily.

Doc mentioned it to me years ago, when I wanted to know why Tux has always had bald spots. I'm so glad that isn't what Mannie has.
I never heard of aldosterone, until you talked about it. Hmm, something new to learn about.

Good news on the Cushings test! It is a huge relief not to be dealing with that. I hope that the spironolactone is effective for reducing his BP. I don't know much about it except that it is a potassium sparing diuretic, so it sounds like it may be good for his potassium levels. Sending lots of low BP and high potassium vines to Mannie!

Hi Wendy :-D oh yes on the dancing! He's till not out of the woods, but at least we are narrowing this down some. It looks like "just" an adrenal problem, so we all hope this will work. We will try this for 2wks, then retest potassium etc. I had so hoped to get out and hike today (it actually turned out to be a nice partly sunny day!!!) , but I had to wait for the IM vet, still waiting on the contractor to stop by as he needs to check on something before works starts tomorrow on the drainage system, and still waiting ion friend who was supposed to be here this AM. UGH! I so hate waiting.... I have lost a prefectly good hiking day. :evil: ;-) ;-) ;-) Mannie say a big yes on the colors for the party. Blue it is!

Hi Grace - thanks for the visit!! and yes, he has. It has been a rough couple of months for him. now we are down to this one thing, with a few branching issues. Paws crossed that the meds take care of it. Thanks so much for the vines!

Hi Rhiannon - me too on the cushion! :lol: :lol: I'm still reading on eh aldosterone (SP) too. so much of what I find is so techie that I have to read it several times to try understand what they are talking about. :shock: :shock: :lol: i LOVE those dancing smilies - vey cool!

Oh Michelle, that's such great news! I am so happy for you. I hope his new medication helps regulate his bg and makes him feel better. What a relief! I have no idea what that disease is that he was dx with... I hope it's nothing too serious and easily managed. Hugs and scritchies.

just a couple thoughts on this - how about reaching out to:

BJM - who seems to be pretty knowledgeable about vet med stuff - not sure what the background is, but she seems to know a lot of this stuff.

or Jojo - I think she is on fb and may be able to help you understand it better.

also post on health - and ask about it there - chances are there is at least one person who has or is dealing with it.......



and well Maui heard me say cushings and thought I said cushions....silly kittehs......

Hi Courtney - It is good news. Me to n the new meds, paws crossed is settles well with him, no side effects etc. The aldosterone has more or less been on the table, other things led the vet to look into cushings, which it is not so....back to the aldosterone - basically a hormone from the adrenals, that controls much, potassium levels being one. so this new med should help with that. I so hope on the easily managed.

I've been gone most of the day and just saw this!!! How wonderful this news is!! We re all happily dancing here that Mannie is Cushings free! Sending many prayers that the meds will help address any issues he has so he will feel more like himself every day!!

I hope Moonie and Scrabble will visit the kitties' circle tonight.

Hi Marje - yupp, at least it isn't cushings. he still has issues what with the aldosterone being elevated, so now we try to address this, see if it will help him. paws crossed. And I believe so on the circle and Moonie and scrabble. those kitties ave good hearts, the will see their friends.
