Yesterday's Condo

After taking me for a bit of a ride last night, Cinco is back to being a flat yellow kitty. His appy is still a little less than his normal vacuum cleaner style. He's eating smaller portions, more often. I've left his plate near his hidey hole and he comes out and eats a little then leaves, then comes back later. Not sure what that is about. He makes a little grumpy noise when I pick up up by holding him around the middle, so I wondered if he maybe had gas or something. Put 1/4 of a Pepcid (or thereabouts - can only find the candy-coated, and they don't split neatly) in a pill pocket and gave it to him. The little bit of sugar in the coating should hopefully not mess with his BG too much, and if it makes him feel better, it's worth it. Trying to decide if he needs fluids today. He isn't urinating more than a normal cat, but he is a bit droopy. If I'm going to do it, it's got to be today since we leave tomorrow evening and I worry he'll drop too much the day after the fluids with no one there to check him (DCS works all day). Decisions, decisions. confused_cat He was so vocal yesterday that I didn't think he was getting dehydrated, but today no sound but the grumbles. :?

Still waiting to hear from vet about Harvey's test results. I know she was concerned he might be heading for thyroid issues. Hope she was wrong. One cat on thyroid meds (Minka) is more than enough, thank you.

Got tons to do to get ready for our trip. DH's truck broke down last night on his way home from work (almost had to skip bowling, but tow truck got him here and we fed and medicated the kids and took off in my car), and I have been assigned to go buy parts to fix it. If he's not comfortable with the results, we may be driving to Phoenix in my Monte Carlo. That's not so bad, but we usually tailgate at the race track, and we can't possibly get the grill, coolers, suitcases and all our other "equipment" in my car! :YMSIGH: In the immortal words of Rosanne Rosannadanna: "it's always something"!

Sending healing vines to all in need and hugs to all their beans.

Sorry about the truck...I hope you can find the right parts and it all goes ok! At least Cinco is giving you the go ahead to get out of the house, so far :-D .

Chyna likes to eat a bit and come back later too...irritating if you need them to eat before you go  . I didn't know there was a sugar coating on Pepcid...although I've been using the generic (famo something). I hope Cinco feels better today soon. Hope your day is going good!

I'm assuming it's a sugar coating, Rachel. It's hard and pink, but the label on the bottle doesn't say what it is. The stores around here do not carry any Famotidine that isn't coated in 10 mg. I found some online and ordered it, but don't know when it will get here. Last year when Kisa was sick, I did find some at Walmart, but no luck this time and I must have thrown that out.

He didn't want his 12:30 bonito flakes and freeze dried salmon snack. Hmmm. If he hasn't eaten when I get back from the truck parts hunt, I'm thinking fluids will be given.

Hi Tricia,
I hope that Cinco will eat normally so that you don't have to worry about him while you are away. It sounds like you have a good, experienced cat sitter. Do you use a pill splitter? They are more accurate than knives.

Flat yellow means . . .

Hang in there!
And have a safe trip.

Re: 2/25 Cinco AMPS 267 +3 237 +6 229

Hi Ella. Yes, I have multiple pill splitters (the DH and I are on lots of meds, too  ). Regular tablets split fine, but when you get down to 1/4, the coated ones just don't split evenly - especially the really small tablets. I didn't make it to Walmart today and Target didn't have the non-coated ones, so I guess I'll just have to wait for the ones I ordered. Cinco finished off the rest of his second breakfast and his 12:30 snack while I was gone, so I maybe the pepcid did help.

Does anyone use the Scheyder Cat Food Nutrition Calculator http://www.scheyderweb.com/cats/catfood.html ? I just tried entering something and it came back with -3% carbs! I thought this would be a great tool for checking out new foods and treats, but that makes me wonder....

I saw something new at Petco - FF Broths. I'm wondering if they are too high in carbs for Cinco, but I bet they'd be good for Harvey, due to the high moisture content. Has anyone see these? Can you tell me how to figure the carb content, please? Thanks.

Nice greens last night. I hope Cinco gets back to the lagoon soon. I've had trouble splitting the Pepcid before when I gave it to one of my cats. They don't split very easily.

Re: 2/25 Cinco PMPS 271

Cinco just had his shot, ate most of his dinner with just one plate chase, spent a few minutes at the sliding door sniffing the cool night air, and is now on the floor near my feet, alternately rubbing his face against Harvey's nanner (uh oh! :o ) and rubbing his paw across his face. He is so cute! I love it! :-D Fortunately, Harvey is just watching him with a resigned look on his face, like I didn't really like it that much anyway. Now it has your cooties on it. Ick!

No results back on Harvey's bloodwork and urine sample. If I don't hear from them in the morning, I'll have to call before we leave for Phoenix.

Still no luck with the truck. The new parts did not solve the problem. Looks like a road trip for the Monte Carlo!
