Good morning LL and happy Caturday! dancing_cat dancing_cat dancing_cat

Bailey was dancing around me this morning at testing time - I think she was pretty proud of herself! That 56 staring at me from the meter made me pause - I hadn't had enough coffee to deal with it yet. :? But I decided that I hate stalling, onset isn't for ~2 hours, and she is on a roll - I am not going to stand in her way! I will be back with a +1 and will hopefully be more awake then.

Have a great day everyone!

Re: 2/25 Bailey AMPS 56 - yup, I shot it!

That BOS award goes to you today! Hope this cycle is a nice surf in the green.

Re: 2/25 Bailey AMPS 56 - yup, I shot it!

BOS Award Winner.
I'd check in 30 minutes, but that's just me. Nice Hooting!

Re: 2/25 Bailey AMPS 56, +1 53 - yup, I shot it!

+1 is 53, not really the food spike I was hoping for. She was asleep, I woke her to test and then took her to her food... she is eating now.

Should I consider some HC?

Re: 2/25 Bailey AMPS 56, +1 53 - yup, I shot it!

When this happens with Zener - which is extremely rare  - we've tested every 30 minutes to catch a big drop if one is coming.

Re: 2/25 Bailey AMPS 56, +1 53 - yup, I shot it!

The 56 and the 53 look like about the same number to me. The food she's eating now, may help her to surf.
I'd test in 30 and see if she's come up any.
I haven't read yesterday's post, yet, but am going there now. Didn't the 46 from yesterday earn her a dosecrease?

Re: 2/25 Bailey AMPS 56, +1 53, +1.5 39 might be in trouble

+1.5 39 - fed gravy. I am beginning to think this might have been a mistake.

Dyana, we just switched to 3 times under 50 to keep her on some insulin... she is at 0.1 units right now and we are trying to keep her on something as long as possible.

Re: 2/25 Bailey AMPS 56, +1 53, +1.5 39 might be in trouble

I'd test her in 20, then. Come on up, Bailey girl.

Re: 2/25 Bailey AMPS 56, +1 53, +1.5 39 might be in trouble

If the next test doesn't come up, I think you may need to give her a drop or two of karo or honey in a little gravy.

i agree with dyana. we're with you. waiting for next test...

Re: 2/25 Bailey AMPS 56, +1 53, +1.5 39, +1.8 44 worried

She's not very hungry. She ate a little gravy when I put chicken dust on it. I smeared a few drops of honey on her tongue and gums.

:YMHUG:

hang in there. you've got the tools. you know how to do bring her up. you're not alone.

Re: 2/25 Bailey AMPS 56, +1 53, +1.5 39, +1.8 44 worried

Thank you everyone for being here! I am comfortable bringing up low numbers but I am concerned because we are right around onset now. Plus she's decided she's not hungry. Come on Bailey.

ETA: Yes I will test in 20. nailbite_smile

Re: 2/25 Bailey AMPS 56, +1 53, +1.5 39, +1.8 44 worried

the gravy and honey should work.
lather, rinse, and repeat, ok? we'll be here...

Re: 2/25 Bailey AMPS 56, +1 53, +1.5 39, +1.8 44 worried

melissa, would you feel more comfortable bringing her in to the vet's? it is early in the cycle. you may be fighting to bring her numbers up for awhile.
they'll put her on a glucose drip.

how far away is your vet's and are they open? if they aren't open, what about an ER?

Re: 2/25 Bailey AMPS 56, +1 53, +1.5 39, +1.8 44 worried

Maybe, if you put some food on your finger, she will lick it off, or if that doesn't work, put a little bit in her mouth. Sometimes jump starting the appetite helps.

Re: 2/25 Bailey AMPS 56, +1 53, +1.5 39, +1.8 44 worried

Melissa, you can always syringe feed her some HC gravy too if you have to if she won't lick it up on her own or off your finger.

Re: 2/25 Bailey AMPS 56, +1.5 39, +1.8 44, +2.2 51 worried

Desi, that is exactly what I did just now. I mixed gravy with a drop or two of Karo and syringe fed her a few mLs of that.

Jill, we have an emergency vet approximately 7 minutes away - I will take her there if I need to. I would prefer to try to manage her at home... unless you think I ought to just take her in?

i wish i knew how' she'll react over the next few hours. that 51 is looking good. i think if i were in your shoes i would have everything ready to go at a moments notice, but hold off for the moment. as long as you can easily keep her above 50 you'll be ok. the minute it becomes too difficult, i'd go. there's no sense in taking chances. that's what i would do, but you have to do what makes you most comfortable.

this may take several hours of close monitoring. you don't have to be anywhere do you? are you stocked with strips, hc, karo?

Re: 2/25 Bailey AMPS 56, +1.5 39, +1.8 44, +2.2 51 worried

I'm glad she's come up a little. Whew. Did she eat her normal amount at AMPS? Maybe, she's just full. Which isn't that good  but you have the syringe and the karo and gravy and know what to do. Come on Bailey, up some more, please.

Re: 2/25 Bailey AMPS 56, +1.5 39, +1.8 44, +2.2 51 worried

Dyana, yeah she ate at AMPS so I think she's just full. She's still accepting freeze-dried chicken when I poke her, she just doesn't really want the gravy. I have a syringe though and I am not afraid to use it.

Jill, nope, nowhere to be. I have plenty of supplies... just bought a case of gravy fuds, in fact. And I restocked strips/lancets/etc recently. The ER vet is close so that makes me feel better.

So I will test again in 20 minutes for now... thanks again for being here guys!

Re: 2/25 Bailey AMPS 56, +1.5 39, +1.8 44, +2.2 51 worried

ok, we'll be here.
just an idea... dip one side of the chicken treat in hc gravy before giving it to her. it might work.

Re: 2/25 Bailey AMPS 56, +1.5 39, +1.8 44, +2.2 51 worried

You're doing a good job, Melissa. Maybe Bailey just wanted some extra attention today.

Re: 2/25 Bailey AMPS 56, +1.5 39, +1.8 44, +2.2 51 worried

You're doing great so far, and it sounds like you are prepared for the day. Pretty Bailey, surf those 50's for a while so your Momma doesn't worry too much, ok?

Re: 2/25 Bailey AMPS 56, +1.5 39, +1.8 44, +2.2 51, +2.6 67

beautiful!

not out of the woods yet, but definitely going in the right direction!

lather, rinse, repeat.

see you soon...

Re: 2/25 Bailey AMPS 56, +1.5 39, +1.8 44, +2.2 51, +2.6 67

Just got caught up on the thread- whew! Glad she's coming up nicely. Next time, less excitement, okay Bailey?

Re: 2/25 Bailey AMPS 56, +1.5 39, +2.2 51, +2.6 67, +3 70

Thanks ladies!

Bailey is up on her green surfboard now. I will keep checking her but I am no longer panicking. Thanks so much to Dyana and Jill and Julie for babysitting us today! I was so proud of myself for that shot and then things did not go the way I planned! ohmygod_smile

Re: 2/25 Bailey AMPS 56, +1.5 39, +2.2 51, +2.6 67, +3 70

Melissa, please make sure to add that 39 to your ss. That's an important number to see.
You can put more than one test result in each square. You can look at my ss on 01/23 for an example.

Re: 2/25 Bailey AMPS 56, +1.5 39, +2.6 67, +3 70, +4 43

Done, thanks Dyana.

I went an hour between tests and unfortunately now she is back in the 40s. She accepted a little gravy, I will give her a little more. Back in 20!

Re: 2/25 Bailey AMPS 56, +1.5 39, +2.6 67, +3 70, +4 43

Melissa, I have to leave for about an hour. I'll make sure someone is here for you.

Re: 2/25 Bailey AMPS 56, +1.5 39, +2.6 67, +3 70, +4 43, +4.

Hey Libby, thanks for keeping an eye on us. She is up to 60 from the gravy. I think I will check again in 20.

Re: 2/25 Bailey AMPS 56, +1.5 39, +2.6 67, +3 70, +4 43, +4.

20-30 should be fine. Looks like she's going to bobble around until nadir, and that sometimes she has a later nadir so you might have a couple of hours left.

Re: 2/25 Bailey AMPS 56, +1.5 39, +2.6 67, +3 70, +4 43, +4.

You're doing great Melissa. I don't know how you measure 0.05 (is that even a drop?) but I think the 39 definitely means a reduction is called for.

Re: 2/25 Bailey AMPS 56, +3 70, +4 43, +4.3 60, +4.75 67

What a great job Melissa! I was watching your condo earlier. Congrats on the reduction and keep surfing, Bailey.

Re: 2/25 Bailey AMPS 56, +3 70, +4 43, +4.3 60, +4.75 67

Good job getting her back up again.

Re: 2/25 Bailey AMPS 56, +4 43, +4.3 60, +4.75 67, +5.5 68

Melissa, are you sitting down?

With that number in the 30s so soon in this cycle, I think it's time to see how Bailey does without any insulin.

That means an OTJ Trial starting tonight.

It's been a while since we've had an OTJ trial in LLand, so if you don't remember, this is what you do:

Test at your normal AMPS and PMPS times. Feed multiple small meals throughout the day as much as possible (small meals are less likely to overwhelm a newly functioning pancreas).

If he is green at your normal test times, no need to test further until the next "PS" time, just feed small meals and go about your day. If he is blue, feed a small meal and test again after about 3 hours. If his number is lower 3-4 hours after a meal, then his pancreas is working!

Post every day so we can monitor your progress and see if any tweaks are needed. It is not unusual for cats to get lots of blue during their trial, especially at first. Don't panic and don't shoot unless we tell you to.

After 14 days of no insulin, we have a party!

Sometimes the trial doesn't work the first time and we have to give a little more support in the form of resuming insulin. It's not the end of the world if that happens, we just give him the support he needs. Our goal is a strong remission and it's better to take our time to get that than to rush into remission just to have it fail later on.

Ask questions, express yourself,
and Good Luck! :-D
