We have pretty much the same report as yesterday. Sid's appetite has improved a bit from yesterday. He has been a good boy about the nebulizer even though I'm pretty sure he doesn't like being in the cat carrier with a loud machine running outside it for 20 minutes. I did notice that he sits right by the tube where the mist is blowing from so that is good.
He is resting right now, but he has been busy walking around a little - mostly between the food bowl and the water bowl, but he has been spending a lot of time laying out in the middle of the room instead of under his cat tree. He loves to have his belly rubbed so I was giving him a little rubbing earlier and he purred and stretched all out on his side.
The diarrhea is back but I've been giving a packet of fortiflora along with the metronidazole so I hope that helps a bit. I have not yet updated his SS but the numbers are not good - mostly high - neg for ketones tonight though. I'm glad it is the weekend so I can test him more often and see what is going on. I hope you all are having a wonderful day or evening wherever you are.

Sounds like you're on top of Sid's situation and are managing everything very well (despite how it may feel!) I'm sure he wonders, as do all our cats, what they did to deserve being poked and prodded, having steam blown in their face and all the other things we do. But to see how Grayson lies down and allows me to prick his ear, and the loving way he licks my hands, they HAVE to be thinking "I don't understand WHY they do what they do, but I sure feel a WHOLE LOT BETTER since they've been doing it!"

Keep up the good work!

Lu-Ann

You're doing such an incredible job with Sid, Lydia. I'm sure he knows how hard you're trying to fix him. I think of you guys so many times during the day and will continue sending healing energy! Please give Sid a kiss for me.

Hi Lydia, it sounds like Sid is working hard with you to get better. If you get a chance, can you update Sid's SS? You probably want to increase the dose while you are off and can monitor, but I hesitate to suggest that without the data. I'll check back later....I am on the road this morning.

Are you giving the FF at the same time as you give the metronidazole? If so, you want to give the FF either an hour before or 2 hours after any of the ABs, the AB may be interfering with the probiotic. I know you are balancing so much, I don't know how you are managing.....my hat is off to you!

Oh thank you Lu-Ann, Michelle, and Laurie :-D

@Laurie, I wondered about the interactions of the medications being given at the same time. I will update his SS right now. I did up his 4am dose to 1.2U. I 've been testing frequently and haven't seen much of a difference yet, but I will post the numbers and the times I've done the meds and treatments so you all can see the numbers too.

@Michelle, I am going to the library today to get a hold of those books you recommended. My holistic vet will be back in about 10 days or so and then I hope to start Sid on acupuncture too. (She is in a third world country doing volunteer work. I have forgotten exactly where.)

Lydia, I am in awe of how you juggle all of this. Management of all Sid's issues seems like a full time job. Good on ya for being such a caring momma.
I wish you guys all the best, sending light your way!

Hi Lydia.
I hope Sid is feeling pretty good, today. I think about you guys all the time and am constantly sending healing vines.
Don't mark my words, but if I remember right, I think I gave Pepcid at +11.5 (because ABs upset J.D.'s tummy), the ABs at +12, and then the FortiFlora at +2 (to put the good bacteria back in, that the ABs took out), or something like that.
Hugs to you and soft belly rubs to Sid. I hope you guys enjoy your day.

Thank you Donna & Dyana. :-D

@Dyana, thank you for the advice about the spacing of the meds. I'm glad you and Laurie told me about the spacing of the fortiflora from the antibiotics. I didn't realize there needed to be a 2 hour window so luckily that's just the way it worked out last night.

Oh good, I'm glad you increased to 1.2u! :thumbup It looks like his nadirs were starting to get a bit better and duration a bit longer before the increase, maybe the infection is starting to clear. The curve this morning is nice, not too steep and you got a decent MDPS at +8.5 hours. Going in the right direction! :-D
