Yesterday's condo: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=7226

Per Helene's suggestion, I changed my SS from "0.5u minus 2 drops" to actual measurements. Her explanation is in yesterday's condo, but basically just to make it less confusing. 0.4u= 0.5u minus 1 drop, 0.3u=0.5u minus 2 drops, etc. I am worried about the dosing and that she's not getting enough insulin and that's why she is in pinks, although she has always bounced pretty good from a dose change, so I will wait it out another day or so, unless someone thinks otherwise. Any advice is more than welcome!

WCR: Buzz is okay. Not as playful as she has been, but I guess that's a reflection of these higher #s.

Re: 2/24 Buzz AMPS: 333

Hi Sarah,

I can see better now! :-D thanks!!!

Buzz's pink since last night appears .... to me.... as RBC from the lower greens from the 22. RBC can last up to 72 hours so don't lose hope quite yet. Buzz did the same thing on the 19 and the 20th. I hope RBC clears soon....

TTYL!

Not so much with the surfing, unfortunately. ;) But hopefully she won't jump to the pinks before PMPS. That's something! :)

PMPS was 236, +2 was 98. When I was testing her for +2, she began yowling and hissing at me, putting her ears back and growling as well. I petted her and talked to her but every time I would get the lancet close to her ear, she started up again. I wasn't even using her most tender ear, either.

NOTHING like this has ever happened before, during a test or not. I wondered if her BG was low, but 98 isn't too bad, unless it was spiked by stress and went up to 98. Can that even happen so quickly? I gave her some food, mostly to see if she would eat. She did, but I am upstairs now and I don't know whether she is hiding or not. I'll go look for her after this.

Has anyone ever had anything like this happen out of the blue? Should I be worried, or not unless her BG gets low?

no, i haven't had this happen. i wonder if she just felt crummy because her BG was dropping? i really don't know.
hope she's in a better mood when you check her because she'll need to be tested again tonight. maybe try to win her over with some treats?

I went and sat with her (she was in the bathroom) and she let me pet her and purred. Since I fed her some just now, I am going to wait until at least +3.5 to test her in hopes of doing as few tests as possible.

I've never had this particular experience either. Magnolia has "off" days, where she is grumpy with me, or doesn't want me to touch her ears but she's never gone that far before. Is it possible she's just having a bad day? I have them often, and I have been known to snap...and depending on who you ask...even hiss.

Maybe she reached her breaking point? Has she been acting as if she is in pain otherwise? If she did it right when you went to check her, maybe her ear is hurting so badly that she wanted to be sure you didn't go near it. Magnolia only hisses when she feels threatened but ECID, right?

I'm so sorry Buzz is giving you trouble. I can imagine it's quite frustrating for you. Treats seems like a great idea, butter her up a bit. Does she usually tolerate her spot checks ok? I think if this is brand new behavior, you may want to think about where the behavior came from.

Good luck with Buzz. I really hope it's just a bad mood and she gets over it soon.

Hi Sara-

I think it must be her ears. She has been acting like her ears are a little sore, but only to the extent of shaking her head a little before a test. It is definitely a brand new behavior.

I palpated her abdomen to try to see if she had any pain but she didn't act like it; she just acted like I was petting her.

Hopefully she will be okay for her next test.

gosh, i hope this was a one time thing. i'm glad she seemed ok when you went to check on her.
have you tried using neosporin with pain relief on her ears? it seems quite a few use it. maybe that would help?

I do use Neosporin + pain relief, actually. It seems to help (I think).

+4: 103

Should I test again? Normally they get a meal at +5. Is that enough, in your opinion (to not have to test again)?

No timed feeders here (long story), but I gave her the meal half an hour early. I will stay up for another hour (until +5.5) and give her a small snack before bed.

Forgot to add that she came for her +4 test and didn't hiss or growl. I don't think she was happy, but it went okay. I gave her extra treats and pets, and I put extra Neosporin on afterwards (usually I just put it on before testing). Will put more on at snack before bed.

Thanks for the help. :) I would like to leave my subject line to see if anyone else has experienced this before, if that's ok.
