Good morning, sugar babies of LL,

Ah, that Basil. He's gonna keep the blue in there by a hair! I'm beginning to think he just runs higher than some.

He seems to be happy and healthy. Kind of on the sleepy side (so am I!) since it is gray and cold and raining hard. Just typing that made me want to go back to bed. Sigh. Luckily for me, TBP is at home so no commute involved. He's been pestering his sister more--a good sign, although I doubt she would agree.

Last night was DH's turn to get up and feed Basil during the night. He is being fed at +8 and we are assuming he eats it all at once.

Questions:
1) Should we stay with him until he finishes or loses interest in the food and pick up the bowl? Right now, we are leaving him while he is eating.

2) Since the +8 feedings don't seem to be bringing his AMBG down, should we move the feeding to +9?

Thanks, everyone, for all the cheering on. Hope everyone has lots of pretty BG numbers today.

Half way there Basil! Could be that he runs higher than some, and I wouldn't sweat the 101...it's still a number within normal range.
You can probably switch to +9 to see if that has any effect if you want to. Spot get's his second snack at +9 and it seems to help bring him down for his pmps. I've also been setting his timed feeder for +9 (3:30 a.m.) and it seems to help on some days.
Is there a problem with him eating that you want to know if you should monitor? If you are just concerned about him eating past +10, you could just pick up the food when that time comes. I don't think grazing during the aloud time frame (between +1 & +10) would have an effect on anything....but then again, I'm not expert!!

Happy Day 7 Lydia and Basil!!! dancing_cat
Will you be testing him at +3 or +4 this morning?
Just wondering when you give snacks at night...is it +4 and +8? And how much are you feeding?
If he eats anything between the +8 and AMBG time while you are sleeping, that can affect the numbers...just wondering if he gets a bigger drop at +3 or +4. You can change it around to +9 at night if you want to give that a try and pick up whatever he doesn't eat.
I agree with Deb that grazing during the day shouldn't matter...it's just the 4-3 hours before AMBG that will skew the numbers..

Basil is doing great! Oh, Full Moon party on Sunday....that time again. Tell Basil to get his dancing shoes shined! Tell him to spread the word...all kitties are invited!! Hope you have a good day today!

I think I would have tested again to see if it came up 99!!
Basil is doing just great, Lydia...not to worry!

Happy day 7! :thumbup

Re: 2/24 Basil OTJ Trial Day 7 AMBG=101 +4=93

AM+4=93. Hmm. That's on the high side although margin of error and all that.

I'm not convinced that Basil does not need some dental attention. I hate to start that up with the anesthesia, the antibiotics and everything. Any thoughts?

Re: 2/24 Basil OTJ Trial Day 7 AMBG=101 +4=93

Happy half way there day!

Jasper keep tossing numbers in the low 100's durring his countdown, but he was always able to bring himself back down to the greens.

Day recap:
AMBG=101
+4=93
Basil snatched a couple of tsp of LC at AM+11 so I was expecting a big PMBG number, but it had no effect!

Basil was a perky boy today!

Pat--to answer your question, I track Basil's feeding schedule in his ss. But here it is, in terms of cans of Fancy Feast 3% or lower:
AM: 1/2 can
+4 1/4 can
+8 1/2 can
PM 1/2 can
+3 1/2 can
+8 1/3 can

Halfway there!

If you want to play around, then trying +9 for a couple of days might be interesting. And the dental, if he does need dental care then that can affect his numbers too. He's OTJ so it should be even easier to get it done. Jill's Alex actually had to go back on insulin for a couple of months (after almost 3 years OTJ) when she needed a dental. I would get it done before that happens to Basil.

hey Lydia

your schedule looks ok, it couldn't hurt to try the +9 as some suggested,,,I did have some time spent at +8, but didn't bring numbers down long enough by the +12.,,it does work some kitties, if it's something you would like to try. What it does come down to is trial and error, and boy we did a lot of experiments!

But in all honesty, the low blues are fine too!

What has u asking about dental? Did the vet suggest it the last time Basil was at the vets?

Oh yea - HAPPY DAY 7!!!

Well, I had kind of forgotten that when we got our diagnosis, the vet said he had a slightly loose tooth and that he wanted to get the diabetes under control and worry about the tooth later. He said it did not look infected or like it was causing a BG problem. But, I notice Basil is eating more slowly lately. This could be just that he is no longer starving! But it prompted me to look at his teeth and he has some red gum margins. Libby, your comment about Jill's kitty makes me thing we should take him in for a look see.

We will try the +9 during the night. Am I wanting to make sure he has no food left in the PM+10 to +12 period still?

And thanks for the good wishes, guys!

:RAHCAT :RAHCAT HAPPY HALFWAY, BASIL[ :RAHCAT :RAHCAT

Tess love seeing kitties go OTJ, such inspiration.

Lydia, I saw in Sami's condo that you feed Merrick. what varieties do you recommend? Have you tried the Before grains?
