Good Morning!

viewtopic.php?f=9&t=114230

I've started to take more +1 tests to see Ole's food spike path. They are not the easiest tests to take because the numbers are usually higher than one desires. I like to think that Ole has said so long to Reds, but he obviously hasn't.

Ole is well and spending a lot of time out side in our ridiculously warmer than normal weather. On the radar though, there is a much needed storm a brewing. Hopefully by next weekend, we'll be frolicking in the snow.

Celebrating anniversaries and just being in the here and now. Thankful for it all, good and not so much.

Enjoy your Sunday!

actually, i think that's good news to see the +1 brings a food spike! that tells you that you can pull him up with carbs, which is great information to have. He'll come down - he's not a permanent resident of the reds anymore - no worries!

and he's getting into yellow nadirs right now, which isn't bad at all! there's no one with a high dose kitty that thinks this is easy - i was just telling Suzanne that it can be difficult, and all of us who've had one understands that completely. You're doing a fine job with managing him - you just keep on keeping on. Except for that little R adventure cycle, you've almost completely eliminated the blacks and reds from his spreadsheet. That's awesome!

As far as his dose, I'd probably give one more at 9.5u and then increase by 0.5u. You could try a 1.0u increase if you're home tomorrow and feeling up to seeing what would happen. Another option would be to try the 10u Lantus and give some R at the same time.

happy anniversary! is the one you're celebrating for you and DH? What year?

Hey!

Yes, Ole needs more insulin. I was tempted to do R at +10 today, but a little gun shy. I will give him 10uL tomorrow (if he doesn't see blue tonight), but no R as I will not be at home all morning. We do have an appointment with Zener's vet tomorrow afternoon, which I am excited about. Having Liz and Anne in town has been so great.

I was talking to my neighbor, Yassi, who is a nurse and has taken care of Ole when we both have had to leave town. She told me that giving wrong insulin to humans is very common too. Insulin is one of 2 drugs that has to be signed off by 2 practitioners before it can be administered to a patient, miss dosing is that common.

So, there you have it.

A good night to all. I wish this weekend would last a few more days!

Hi Rebekah! I wish every weekend would last more than 2 days  . I'm glad to see Ole hitting some yellows. Hopefully he will slide down again tonight, and maybe show you blue :-D . Hope you're having a good evening!

Ole! We have told you repeatedly there is nothing to see on that floor! You slide safely down for your mamabean! Red is not your color. Be a trendsetter in some blue...yellow even!

i think mixing up vials would be extremely easy! for people who use pens, they are less likely to mix up the insulins. but the two vials i had were identical in size and shape, both with non-descript white labels. probably yours are too. fortunately, it turned into a non-event because Ole's body sucked up the excess.

it's not unlike my start-up with punkin and lantus. maybe i've told you (if so, the joy of written word is you can fast-forward me! ) . . . we started with ProZinc and u-40 syringes. when the vet switched us to Lantus, he didn't say i needed a different syringe, so i just kept using the same ones. Lantus is 2.5x stronger per unit than ProZinc. Fortunately, punkin sucked it up and i never even knew a big "event" happened.

people here were talking about syringes and i commented that we were using u-40 syringes. there were some questions, then i was asked to wait - lo and behold, i think it was Libby that appeared to find out more. she gave us some options, which included dropping back and starting over with the Lantus. But punkin was getting reasonable numbers on the 7ish u of lantus, which we thought was 3u, so we just carried on.

Like your situation, it turned out ok. except that my vet was so embarrassed at his mistake that he told me he thought of it every time he saw me. i adored that vet but i did end up switching to someone who knew more about FD.

Hi!

My vet's response to my mistake was quite cruel. Hence, a visit to team Z tomorrow.

These big gulpers, they're quite amazing are they not. I'm glad I get to "meet" Pumpkin when I watch the Lantus vid. Thank you Julie.

i'm sorry you had that experience, Rebekah. there is nothing easy about taking care of our kitties and there's no need for anyone to blame you for that error. it was SO understandable and you aren't the first one to do it. i trust that Zener's vet will be more human. :YMHUG:

hehe you shouldn't say that, because i'll be forced to give you more punkin videos. i might have a "couple."

Glad to see Ole doing so well. A visit to the blue floor, even! Happy Anniversary. I hope you get your snow - maybe next weekend, as we are expecting rain here and snow in our mountains, and it usually moves east from here.

Look at that! Lovely blues tonight. :-D :-D Some kitties (like those named Neko) sometimes like to go a little higher before they go a little lower.

Good luck at the vet tomorrow - I hope you can build a great relationship there.
