Happy appy, snuggly, spunky, feisty, and anti-jinxes.

I attempted a BTB today but failed. It is SO hard for me to go back to sleep once I'm up, but I am really, really beat...many nights of poor sleep catching up to me. So today I thought I'd take the plunge and give it a whirl. Civvie Zen said "Nope, not gonna happen." Mind you he is the main reason I don't get much sleep anyway. He's the one cat out of our 5 who sleeps with us, but he spends half the night booping my nose, purring loudly, taking noisy baths....all while right in my face. I was hoping he wouldn't be interesting since it was morning. I was wrong. As soon as I headed up, he started crying outside the bedroom door (this is why he sleeps with us to begin with), so I let him in. After half an hour of booping and purring I gave up....no BTB for me today. And, of course, as soon as I got up he curled up on a chair and passed out :rolleyes::rolleyes:. Maybe tomorrow...

With that, time to start working. Prayers to all....

Amy

Sorry your BTB didn't work out.....I'm not one that can fall back asleep very easily with or without cats in the room. Does Zen get closed in with you at night? What would happen if you left the door open; might he lose interest and sleep elsewhere?

He does get closed in with us at night. It's a really long convoluted story...the short version: for years we closed all of the cats out....too many of them to share the bedroom. For a long time this worked well, but once Trix got sick and started getting more attention, some of the others got jealous...this resulting in scratching and crying at the bedroom door at night. So, we decided to start letting them all in, but still had to kitty-proof the room. Before the room was fully kitty-proofed, we did let Zen in, basically because he was SO persistent and he would cry so much it seemed like he was going to make himself sick. That was our big mistake. It only took a few days to kitty-proof the room so they could all come in, but by then Zen was territorial about the bedroom and when we let the others in, it got really ugly. So, he won - only he gets to sleep with us. Now if we close him out, he again cries too much - hard enough to take on it's own, but if he cries enough civvie Petey, who doesn't like noise, will attack him. Or, if Petey doesn't attack Zen, Zen will attack Frankie out of frustration.

I wouldn't mind either letting them all in (having the door open), or keeping them all out (having the door closed), but because of the situation we created, neither of those is really an option.

Like I said, that's the short version :rolleyes::rolleyes:....

I understand completely; we had 5 cats at one time too.
Another idea.....can you place a hoodie (or some other piece of clothing) that you wear frequently on the end of the bed and maybe Zen would sleep on that? I know that Boomer spends half the night on the bench in our bedroom with his little head resting on my hoodie.

I keep a shirt at the foot of the bed at all times....no interest what-so-ever. Zen is a very clingy and needy cat, which in many ways is very awesome. Except at night!

Yeah, it's wonderful to have a kitty that likes to cuddle but Beans need their sleep too. I'm lucky with Boomer....he'll lay beside me for a while right after we go to bed and then he goes to his bed or the bench and has his bath. He's usually there until his +6 dish opens and after that he might come back to bed with me. Last night I had synchronized snoring going on; DH on one side of me and Boomer on the other  but that's about the worse it gets.

Zen actually does this to a degree, too - he sleeps next to me, then goes to his own bed for a bit, then comes back to me for the last hour or so of "sleep". But when he's next to me, he tends to want to be "interactive". Also, he likes to come and go, and since the door is closed that means one of us has to get up and down. I do draw the line at putting a LB and water in the bedroom, so we have no choice but to let him out if he wants out. Crazy cat....

I haven't figured out the BTB trick but do take naps later in the day. Oh Zen, please let mama bean get her sleep. What we do for our beloved kitties. :bighug::bighug::bighug:
Psychologically I have such a hard time taking naps...there is so much I want to do and so much I need to do.....and I do have to get my business running. Between my Dad's illness and the slow state of the bead store the last few years we had it, we've been without a second income for too long.

It's taken me a very long time to train myself. Some days it doesn't happen because of that racing brain. So instead I fall asleep right after PMPS (around 7pm) until his +4 feeding. So pathetic LOL.

Hope this season is a good one for you!

yeah we have a litter box in a corner of the bedroom. But back when we had 5 cats, two of them did not get along at all so we had to keep them separated. My little Snickers, since she wanted to sleep on DH's pillow all day, was shut in the bedroom and the other cat was allowed to roam free. Once I came home from work and Snickers wanted to be with me, she was able to roam free and Muffin was isolated. sigh. And now when I'm dong photo sessions at home, Boomer is shut in the bedroom to minimize the noise for him. You do what you have to do I guess.

Often times this is me, too...except I can't sleep until +4 because we have to fluids and other fun stuff. I used to be able to bead after dinner, but now I'm too tired so I just sleep instead...
