Yesterday.

Ripley has that "I'm not feeling well" look. She's mellow, quiet, not super-excited about breakfast; definitely acting like she was pre-enema, rather than perky post-enema.

She did poo sometime last night, though: a nice, healthy cylinder -- unbroken, so I know it isn't as dry as before. I'm surprised it wasn't mushy, w/all the additives I'm adding to her food (Miralax, squash, slippery elm bark). But I'm glad she passed something. I was getting concerned, as this was the first poo since the vet cleared her out on Wed.

:?: :I was hoping that the higher numbers (the pinks/yellows) from the last week or 2 were from her constipation (stress, etc.). I did see some lower numbers this week (yellows/blues), but I'm surprised by this morning's pink. I'm thinking of increasing her dose tonight to 1.5u. -- or should I wait and see if her numbers come down even more, now that she's (hopefully!) more regular? I'm thrown off by this morning's AMPS.

Thank you!
TGIF!

~Josie

Re: 2/22 Ripley AMPS 353, dose incr?

Yay for poo! That is a relief for her and you. I hope she is feeling ok and that the "not feeling well" look goes away. No advice but wanted to say happy Friday!

Re: 2/22 Ripley AMPS 353, dose incr?

Josie, good luck with the dosecrease and hope those numbers come down! Have a great day!

Morning Josie ~O)

Re: 2/22 Ripley AMPS 353, dose incr. tonight

Hi Josie. Glad that Ripley left you a present in the LB, that's a great sign. We have our fingers crossed that Ripley isn't I'll and gets back to being himself today and the dose increase brings his BG #s down for you.

Have a great day.

Re: 2/22 Ripley AMPS 353, dose incr. tonight

Morning Josie, good luck on the dosecrease. I'm glad Ripley poo'd, if just a little. Sending feel better vines and hope it is just a blip, and she'll be back to her sweet self soon. Have a great day.

Re: 2/22 Ripley AMPS 353, dose incr. tonight

Hi, Devon, thank you!

((Roni)), I hope you know how amazing you are!

Bruce, hoping to see that perky side of her soon!

Thanks for visiting, John, Ann, and Lisa! We are gladly accepting those positive thoughts! And seeing the poo was a great sign!

Anyone have any ideas on how to deal with this emotional roller coaster?
Yesterday was such a good day -- I could tell Ripley was feeling great. And today, well, not so much.
I feel like I'm not doing something right, or could be doing something better in order to help her out (I just don't know what that is yet).
When I left her this morning, she was on her rocking chair, legs tucked in, head on its side, staring at the wall (meatloaf position?). She was tensing her body about every 5-10 secs; in discomfort of some sort. She had just finished eating (almost CPC), and I sometimes see this right after she eats. I don't know if it's her body adjusting to the dose, or if it's a digestive issue, or something else. When I do see this, it lasts an hour or two, ten she's sleeping peacefully.
Breaks my heart, and I find myself feeling down when she's down, and elated (like yesterday) when she's feeling good.

Uggghh I hate this defeated feeling.

2/22 Ripley AMPS 353, +7 227, acid tummy?

Came home from work to find a Sugarkitty eager to go outside for some basking time  .

I've heard about some kitties suffering from an acid stomach -- I wonder if that's what's making her feel not-so-good sometimes. I'll have to look into the indications of an acid tummy (Ripley has no vomiting/diarrhea), and probably should get some Pepcid AC to have on hand. :?: Would it hurt to give some to her, even if I don't know if she for sure has an acid tummy?

I hope all kitties and beans are enjoying their Friday!

Re: 2/22 Ripley AMPS 353, +7 227, acid tummy?

Josie

CKD kitties frequently have acid tummy and the symptoms you describe sound like it to me. You can start with 1/4 of a 10mg Pepcid AC sid. I would start at night and see if that helps her. If you're still seeing it after a few days, you can do it bid. We usually give Gus his right before we go to bed and then again about 12 hours later.

I hope it helps. Poor baby.

As far as the emotional roller coaster....remember you are doing all you can for her. As they get older, our kitties, just like us, will have good days and not as good days. Gus has days that make me really worry if he will be here much longer and then the next day, he's like a kitten! (((Josie)))

Re: 2/22 Ripley AMPS 353, +7 227, acid tummy?

I agree with Marje -- see if the Pepsid helps. The other factor may be that Ripley's numbers have been up and down. Some kitties don't feel that great if their numbers swing.

Re: 2/22 Ripley AMPS 353, +7 227, acid tummy?

Use the pepcid, it is so helpful to them!! Just once a day..Know what you are feeling, watching every move & action your baby makes..But Josie, you really do need to live your life too. Some time away every day is good for you & Ripley. They pick up every one of our feelings especially anxiety!
I tried so hard to hide my feelings from Moonie, but she was too smart--Try to relax a little, you are an amazing caretaker & Momma bean..You are also amazing--Hugs from me!

Oh, wow. I am so appreciative of you all.

I gave Ripley 1/4 Pepcid in one of those duck/pea pill pockets (holy cow those thing smell horrible) as her post-test treat. Down the hatch it went!

I truly appreciate the help, Marje, Sienne, and ((Roni)) (yes, you're name will always be hugged!).
I generally do ok with all of this, but this morning I felt so sad. I guess sometimes it catches up with me. Plus, I'm sort of a control freak, so this dance with FD/CKD is really teaching me some life-lessons.

I spent part of my afternoon basking in the sun with Ripley. She sprawled on my lap, and every now & then would look at me and squawk so sweetly. I always answered back with "I love you, too." Then she would close her eyes half-way, and rest her head back down and relax. I thanked her for being my best teacher; for teaching me patience, and how to 'go with the flow.' I apologized for being stressed/sad/overwhelmed, and promised her that I would try to be my best self for her.

I wish everyone in LL a great evening.
Sending vines to kitties and beans who need them (including Anne & Muffin, ((Michelle)), and ((Roni))).
And to all of the new students (& their best teachers).

even when talking to someone else you can make me feel better

(((josie))) I have no advise to give on the emotional roller coaster ride, God knows I'm a basket case... nailbite_smile nailbite_smile
but my bff said that something to me that stuck, she said when she lost her "special one" the one regret she had was, she wished she did more appreciation than worring. I said i appreciate everyday and she said you don't relize it now but your worry is consuming you from just taking him in.
hard not to worry or to controll your emotions, i'm living proof but relax into the moment as ripley feels your stress< easier said than done but just trying to remind you.
(((((josie & ripley))))))

Re: 2/22 Ripley AMPS 353, PMPS 227

Yep, I know that rollercoaster very well, too...love makes us a little nutty sometimes! I hope the Pepcid helps Ripley and she's feeling better now. Hooray for pooooo!!!

Have a relaxing evening tonight!

Sam, You're such a sweetie. Thank you for that reminder. It's far more worthwhile to appreciate than to worry.

Amy, If that's the case, then I'm a true nut. ;-)

I'm liking the +3.
Such a great evening.
Relaxing.
Ripley's sleeping, but earlier (after food & fluids) she left her chair to socialize with us (as my DH said, "She's off her rocker!"   ).
I'd say she seems feeling pretty good tonight.

Re: 2/22 Ripley PMPS 227, +3 158

((Josie)) - We all know that emotional roller coaster and when you're on one of the lows you can feel all alone. Please remember that you're not alone; we're here for you, we know and understand how you're feeling.

I find myself defensively saying we're not CRAZY cat people, then we hoop and holler and feel like it's Christmas morning over poop!  Glad she went and hope the pepcid helps.

Have a great night -

Libby (& Hershey, too!)

2/22 Ripley PMPS 227, +3 158, +5 108

Oh my, is that almost a green??
If there's a little green smiley face on Ripley's condo today, you can bet there'll be dancing...

Marje ~ Aw shucks, thanks. But I can't even come close to taking all the credit -- Ripley has help from some cyber-beans, too. (Kind of makes you all sound like robots  ).

Hi, Libby ~ I know I'm never alone here. There are too many other crazies here who are right by my side, & for that, I'm grateful :-D .

Sam ~ You should've heard me on my recent trip, on my phone trying to discretely describe the differences between Ripley's poo & our civie's poo to my DH while in the middle of Disneyland. All I was doing was trying to answer his question, "How can I tell which one used the LB?" I should've taken pics -- would've been easier
