+7 - 404

The 297 pre-shot this morning seems to indicate I didn't have a fur shot last night, but its also the only time shes gone under 300 for 5 cycles. If that holds tonight, do I increase tomorrow by .5U or .25U? Not sure what to do here. Anyone think trying a new vial of insulin could be warranted at this point?

Oh Noodle - just when it looked like things were improving!!

I've got nothing to offer on the dosecrease Patricia - sorry. Just stopping by with a hug for you for those all over the place numbers and hoping you find a dose that suits Noodle soon :bighug:

Thanks, April. The fact that she was responding so well as recently as 8-9 days ago really makes me think I tainted this pen somehow. Sometimes I'll mistakenly squirt out all the insulin trying to measure and reinsert, maybe something there?? I'm pretty puzzled at this point and willing to spend the $80 for peace of mind! Just not sure if I should try the dosecrease before or after that.

I'd be inclined to try a new one I think. It does seem odd that she's not responding to it the same anymore when she was doing so well so recently. I was prescribed the vial by my vet, so of course deciding to throw that out and replace it would really hurt on the cost, though I'd still do it if Rosa needed me to. At least the pens do come in a little less than the vial though an $80 loss still isn't the best news you could have!

I wouldn't try new insulin as long as it looks clear with no floaties and you've been keeping it in the fridge. And you aren't squirting insulin back into the pen. That yellow preshot this morning means you go up by .25 units.

If you do go for a new vial, I'd try it before an increase, but I think you should increase tonight. Sometimes cats have an initial good reaction, which isn't sustained. How is Noodle feeling/acting?

I was prescribed the vial first, and promptly dropped it on the floor within the first two weeks. That hurt!

Well, I can't get the insulin before tomorrow, so I'll increase .25U tonight and go from there.
She seems to be acting fine! Aside from some diarrhea this morning (new-ish food, always had a sensitive tummy), she's jumping better than ever since she was DXed, hungry a lot but I assume that's the BG, playing with her toys, no meatloafing, and napping often as she's been doing since DX. I put her in her carrier to come to my parents tonight for dinner and she climbed over my head trying to avoid it so her strength is improving, too.

I would definitely follow Wendy's suggestion of increasing by 0.25 beginning tonight to see how Noodle responds. She may have hit a small plateau, and may need a tiny nudge with the increase. With regards to the diarrhea, if it continues, you can get the 100% psyllium from Walmart (Equate version is the cheapest), and mix in up to 1 capsule/day into her food. If you decide to get it, I would try a small amount at least once a day for starters and increase a bit if needed. I've used psyllium on Blackie in the beginning, and a few of my civvies in the past. Just a thought. Good luck! Got my fingers crossed for you both.

Ouch - that would hurt. The pens are definitely a better option when it comes to anything like that!! I warned everyone here that if anyone drops the vial or leaves it out of the fridge, they're replacing it, but I just know if it gets dropped it'll be me that does it!

Upped her dose to .75U tonight. She's half enjoying being the center of attention at my parents', half running and hiding at every loud sound. Successful trip, I'd say.

+2 300; +4 373

But, the +4 was after a car ride, which is on Noodle's list of LEAST FAVORITE THINGS. She appears to be plotting the demise of her carrier as I type.
