Well, that amps is at least a little better than last night's pmps. Yesterday we had our first yellow preshot in awhile. :-Q

We're giving this a few cycles to see if we're on the right track!

Good morning to all the sweet kitties and beans out there. We're scheduled for gorgeous weather here in Dallas. I think all the plants and trees in the city are very confused. They're starting to bloom. I hope we don't get one last freeze that crushes their beautiful intentions! We have had such a mild winter. Even though people think of Dallas as hot (it is!), we also have decently cold winters with some hard freezes and dustings of snow. Not this year!

Here is Simon on patrol this morning. He is examining the work on the foundation of our game room addition. As you can see, he's not the typical cat. He will rub up against the workers' legs and chirp at them through the fence! (We had to put that chain link fence up to keep Simon, the dog, and the two year old safe from their own curiosity).

ETA: See questions below about scruff/flank and needle length.

Re: 2/22 Kim's Simon amps 184

It looks like Simon may have had a bit of NDW at PMPS last night. He kindly went back to green. Let's hope he continues to be green.

Re: 2/22 Kim's Simon amps 184; on patrol

Oh Simon! You iz bootiful! Actually, you resemble KT more than I thought....you have the same 'tipped' colors rather than the whole hair having the same color. KT's is 'flame tipped'....not orange, a beautiful gold...

Beautiful boy!

Re: 2/22 Kim's Simon amps 184; on patrol

Love the pic- he is so diligent!
I've been wondering about our weather, too. I still haven't brought my potted plants back out, but I think it may be safe now. I kind of wish we'd get that icestorm or snow- I could use the day(s) off! We've had an ice day I think every year I've lived here except this year. I miss it!
I need to post the pic of Atticus in the snow from last year.

Hi guys .. Yeah, let's hope simon just had some NDW going on and he's over that .. green before to long simon? What a gorgeous kitty you have .. and quite the outdoorsman too :-D have a great day!

Re: 2/22 Kim's Simon amps 184; on patrol

Well, he was awfully close to getting a reduction (52) when I came home to check him around noon! Goodness sakes, Simon. . .there are no little changes for you! Let's skydive!

Re: 2/22 Kim's Simon amps 184; on patrol; +5 52

Good luck with Simon's drop -- I'm glad you caught it.

Very cute pic of Simon making sure no one was slacking off on the job. He's a very brave cat -- my two would be in a dark corner of the basement with all that noise. I see your 2-year-old has a front-loader of his/her own, in the dirt. That's also very cute!

Oh yes, we have no Tonka truck shortage here! I learned so many new things as the first-time mom of a boy with my now 7-year old. I used to think all yellow vehicles were called bulldozers; I learned proper names like front end loader, excavator, and skid steer. then it was on to trains, dinosaurs, sharks, etc!

He is back up at pmps to above normal, though lower than the last few days. I guess this is what we will call progress. I gave his shot in the scruff as an experiment to see if it might level him out a bit. I have always given flank shots since I learned this was better absorption.
I'm sure there's someone who will tell me that wasn't a good choice, but feeling a little "mad scientist" right now.

While you are at it, if you are reading this, you can explain to me the merits of different length needles. Simon is VERY patient and I have no trouble shooting him. I usually feel with my finger to make sure I don't go through the tent. He doesn't have a lot of blubber on him. I'm not sure what depth is best to deposit the insulin. I have heard it is possible to give a "skin shot." What is this?

I've never heard of a "skin" shot. I'm guessing it means that the needle doesn't go below the layers of skin/fatty tissue and into the subcutaneous space. You want the needle to deposit the insulin below the skin layers but not into the muscle.

I think the members here who have long-haired cats or cats with very thick coats like the longer needles.

I have always given scruff shots. I tried flank shots and Gabby was not amused. Neither was I -- I kept giving fur shots.

Hi Kim...nice day for Simon today. Do you ever feed after +6? I think I saw one day on his SS that had food at + 8? If you are feeding after +6, I would try and stop and see if that helps the PSs come down.

I use a short needle. I used to shoot scruff and then changed to chest, side, and flank to keep sites rotated. I do think I see a little better absorption when not shooting the scruff. I like the short needles because the longer needes don't come in 31 g and Gracie likes the smaller needles better.
