Well good morning everyone! I had a sweet boy this morning and he was good for my poke. I ran out of FF last night in the middle of an icestorm but luckily I had some wellness grain-free and some evo. They were happy. Have a great day!

Re: 2/22 Java PMPS 242 +2 107 Please look at this!

Isn't that a pretty big drop? I am a little concerned he seems ok but he has those big pupils again and he came over to sit on me like he does but he seemed a little anxious? I have Karo syrup on hand and I also have some leftover ID and CD. What should I do? Make coffee?

15 more minutes til +3. I am not freaking out but this is his second big dive in three days

Hi, Steph. My, we have some cliff divers tonight!! That is definitely a drop, but no need to get alarmed just yet. What is ID and CD?

Do you have any higher carb foods with gravy on hand, or anything in the 8%-15% range?

Re: 2/22 Java PMPS 242 +2 107 Please look at this! Is anyone

That is a sizable drop by +2. (In a "perfect" curve, your +2 would be roughly the same as your pre-shot test #.) Like Melinda suggested, get a +3 (or even a +2.5 if you're concerned) and see where Java's numbers are.

Sorry Science Diet CD and ID. ID is rx for IBS and CD is for kidney and uti issues. I don't have anything with gravy, I have wysong 95% chicken and the evo cat and kitten. I better check the list and see where the CD and ID fall. God what are our kitties doing to us tonight? You would think they could take turns diving?!

I just checked and CD is 22% and ID is 24%. I also have a can of Purina DM but that is only 7%.

Re: 2/22 Java PMPS 242 +2 107 Please look at this! Is anyone

No worries. If you get to the point that feeding a low number is necessary, one thing you can always do is mix a couple very small drops of karo into your wellness. food carbs are a little better because they will stick in a kitty's system longer than the karo will. If you get to that point, remember to feed in small amounts... you don't want Java to go lower and then be too full to eat!

Re: 2/22 Java PMPS 242 +2 107 Please look at this! Is anyone

You can also use Honey if no karo, but it will do the trick..Not to worry peeps are still up...

Re: 2/22 Java PMPS 242 +2 107 Please look at this! Is anyone

Ditto on what Christie said. I'd check at +3 and see where java is, feed if you need to, and check again at +4, or +3.5 if you are concerned. You can alwasy add a little karo to the low carb food if need be.

Re: 2/22 Java PMPS 242 +2 107 +3 77 still diving!

+3 77, when do I feed? He is eating his wellness right now. Part of the problem is he is a grazer so should I add karo now or do a +3.5 or +4? I am just not sure how low we get before panic mode? or should I give him a couple spoonfuls of CD? it is wet food.

Re: 2/22 Java PMPS 242 +2 107 +3 77 still diving!

No panicking yet!! :) 77 is a great number and we want give Java a chance to surf. If you feed right now, give 1/2 tsp or so... you don't want him too full to eat later. Get a +3.5 and post back. I will stay up with you.

Thanks Christie! I will hold off on the food until the +3.5 since he just ate a little of his wellness. He seems fine, sleeping in a box of computer cords under my desk.

are we leveling out a bit maybe? oh and I only have 5 strips left... Could this night get any better?

Re: 2/22 Java PMPS 242 +2 107 +3 77 still diving!

Christie is giving you very solid guidance. Remember, as long as you have strips and HC food, you are in control of the cycle. Take a look at Gabby's numbers tonight -- she's been surfing in the 70s for the last 3 hours. These are great numbers! They are pancreas healing numbers. I would give some LC -- like a teaspoon -- and test in 30 min. The low carb should help Java to surf.

Also, notice that the drop is slowing down.

Here's the post on handling low numbers. It's geared to numbers below 50 but the principles are the same.

thanks Sienne, I will give him a little more wellness.

Re: 2/22 Java PMPS 242 +2 107 +3 77 +3.5 71

Yep! What Sienne said! :)

Assuming no botched tests (knock on wood), you have enough strips to get you through +6 if you test every 30 min. If the test strip thing makes you nervous and Java is still dropping at +4, then I would bust out the DM and give a tsp of that. It's a little higher carb and will help stall the drop without bouncing Java too far out of the healing range.

You are doing an awesome job tonight. Remember.. we've all been in your shoes!!

Re: 2/22 Java PMPS 242 +2 107 +3 77 +3.5 71

FWIW, when I'm down to my last 100 strips, that's when I order more. I refuse to pay the prices at Walgreen's if I run out.

Re: 2/22 Java PMPS 242 +2 107 +3 77 +3.5 71 +4 62

LOL It often feels like it! :)

Given the strip situation, I think the DM is appropriate at this point. Give 1/2 tsp. and test again in 30. For any additional drops, give the DM. I'm probably going to be heading to sleep her in a sec... eyes barely staying open. I would continue to test every 30, giving 1/2 tsp DM for any continued decrease. If you get a jump up to the 80s in the next hour, I'd save a strip and test 1 hr from that test. If Java drops to 50 or below, give 1/2 tsp of the CD. Stay awake until you get 2 rising numbers... hopefully you won't run out of strips.

I'd suggest getting a backup meter... The Relion confirm is a good choice. Meter is $9 and most stores sell a 20 pack of strips for $12, and all stores have the 50 pack for $20. Or get one of the CVS or Walgreens meters that are free after rebate and come with 10 strips. It is just always good to have a backup in case something goes wrong with the meter, or if you are using a meter with pricier strips and you run out.

Good job tonight!!
