Tonight was Chuck's first Lantus shot after being OTJ for over 4 years.
It was a struggle to get the insulin. First, the vet said no RX needed, Wal-Mart said RX required. Called vet while on the road this morning and he was going to call in the RX. Went to Wal-Mart at 4:30 to pick up, waited in line for 10 minutes, only to be told there was no RX. Called the vet, he called it in on the backline. Waited another 10 minutes before pharmacy checked their voice mail and found the RX. Then had to wait another 30 minutes for them to pull a vial of Lantus out of the refrigerator and slap a label on it.
Vet prescribed .5U 2x daily, but I wanted to start lower tonight, since I do have to sleep sometime. I'll bump it to .5U tomorrow and monitor him for signs of insulin sensitivity. I'll hold the .5U dose for a week, then see where we are.
His numbers are WAY high today! He's been cruising in the mid-300's, now it's the mid-400's. I should have pushed for a Lantus start a month ago!!
