2/21 Sid update - he has pneumonia!!

I wanted to give you all an update on Sid.

This morning Sid did not want to eat his breffis and he was breathing super heavy. My heart fell because I thought for sure he had ketones. I took him over to the vet and left him there for the day. They checked his urine and no ketones. Then they did a chest xray and he has pneumonia - probably immune suppressed from the pred or the leukeran. He ate a little today (total of about 1 can - which is pretty good). he is now home and resting comfortably. I am on my way out to buy more of his favorite cat food and then I am going to set up a vaporizer for him. he is on clavamox for the pneumonia...

Aww Sid, sorry about the pneumonia. I hope the a/b and using the vaporizer helps him heal very soon.
And favorite foods are always a good thing too.

Poor Sid....but what special fighters you both are! I'm so glad to hear he's now resting comfortably. We're always thinking of you.....

(((((Lydia & Sid))))) Golly, Lydia, I had hoped that Sid was out of the woods. But this little setback won't faze your boy. I'm glad that he's getting some good rest and praying that the antibiotics will do their work. His favorite food will help, too!

Lydia, I am so sorry to hear this, but glad you got Sid to the vet as quick as you did for a fast dx. Let's hope the Clav kicks this in the hiney in no time. Sid eating, that's a good sign. How much Clav is he getting? I think i read somewhere on line that the normal dose for cats is 62.5mg BID however Tawny actually got 125mg twice a day for 2 or 3 days the 1st or 2nd time she was in the hospital. I remember the vet saying tho that was an awfully high dose for a cat.

Oh no.... I am sorry to read this Lydia - I am sure he will fight this like he has the rest. It is good that you got him to the vet quickly. be better Sid - we will be thinking of you tonight.
 
Thank you everyone for the kind thoughts and well wishes. Sid is resting right now and a little suspicious of the vaporizer - which I guess is actually a humidifier - I just bought a new one. I had one but did not want to spend the time disinfecting it, etc because I wanted it to get working for Sid right away. Hopefully, this cool mist humidifier will help. If anyone knows the best kind to have for pneumonia, let me know because I will get a different one if it would help.

@Desi - he is actually on .5ml/BID of the clavamox. They also suggested giving him lasix to help with the breathing.
 
Bump - I have no idea if vapor is helpful with Pneumonia. I know with upper respiratory it is but not sure about lungs.

I'm sorry he's fighting something else. I bet you caught it very early being as attentive as you are. You have the tube for feeding if you need it. Tell him to keep fighting and give him a belly rub from me.

@ Karrie I thought the same thing about ketones. I did increase his insulin a bit for that reason.
I change his bandage every 2 days and the vet checked it today and said it looks really good. I was worried about that too. I thought it looked crusty but they said they said the crustiness was normal.
 
So sorry to hear this Lydia. When I had pneumonia, I think it was the sickest I ever felt. ((((Sid)))) Feel better soon, Buddy.
 
Awww Sid just when I start thinking that you're on the road to recovery you throw another curve ball. I hope you realise that you are using up all your allocated bouts of illness all in one go. After this that is it no more sicknesses for you forever young man you are to be the epitomy of health forever after.

well that is to bad :sad: Seems like it's one thing after another .. Thank goodness for no ketones .. mocha says to tell sid not to worry about the humidifier .. she says that she loves humidifiers and they are the best thing ever! Get better soon sid!
