It appears that Michael and I need to have another sit down chit chat.....

Why don't you send him on over this way, he can sit on Auntie Molly's lap and we can chit chat about those numbers he has been getting lately....

Hi Paula! just thought i'd check in on you and Michael, and I read through yesterday's post about how frustrated and sad you are.

In addition to everyone else's wisdom, I would add that I never got punkin's blood sugar under control. Acromegaly made that very difficult in our case, and then the treatment for the acro killed his thyroid, so we had low thyroid that we couldn't get back up into the right range. And yet, I wouldn't have given up that 2.5 years with punkin for anything. Michael's got hyperthyroid. Anything with thyroid makes blood sugar more difficult to control. You've got a tough situation!

You might not ever get him flattened out - but as Sienne said, Dyana's JD never stopped bouncing, and he made it to 20 years old! I've never even had any cat make it to 20! JD's bouncing didn't really make any difference at all. I don't think Michael's loving to bounce matters either. Just keep your eye on the nadirs and dose according to them.

Another good example of how little that matters is to take a look at Sandy's Black Kitty. BK had insulin auto-antibodies - in other words, his body made antibodies to the insulin that was injected. If I remember his story correctly, BK didn't get out of pink numbers for his first 6 months on insulin, and didn't go under 50 for his entire first year on insulin. And yet, BK eventually went OTJ and is still healthy now, several years later.

I know how much you adore Michael - he's your little buddy. You've both missed his brother, but you still have Michael and you and he are fortunate to have each other.

It's a marathon, isn't it? And yet, you & Michael are right on track, doing awesomely! Give the little guy an extra pat from me today.

:bighug:

That's what I thought when I read your post yesterday is that you have each other.
It's hard for me to type this, but it is so much better to have them and care for them, then to not.
I hope you will decide to keep plugging along. I think you need each other.

Paula - Hugs and vines are headed your way. I read your post from yesterday, and just echo what everyone else has said. You have done a phenomenal job with Michael. Please know that I think most if not all of us have had those times when we feel overwhelmed and feel like we're failing. We are all here for you! Bouncy kitties like Michael can flatten out! Take a look at Eddie's SS - he bounced badly for a full year before he stopped and flattened out. But even if he doesn't flatten out, what you're doing for him in terms of treating his diabetes is making him feel better. I think Dyana's JD is the perfect example - as others have said, JD was the king of the bounce, yet despite his rainbow bounciness, Dyana's care for him kept him with her for 20 years! That's incredible! Hang in there!
