2/21/20 Butternut AMPS 358 +8=200 Opinions needed about PM dose and how to get him stable

Going to start at the end and ask opinions about what is going on with Butternut and what his dose Should be tonight?

I’m at the vet’s now to have him checked. Rear legs are weak - we got past this last fall and now since his BGs went off it’s returned.

He is currently eating raw every 4 hours except during the night his last meal is +6 or 7.

Last week’s kidney labs are in his SS file. Will post whatever we find out this afternoon + lab results, if any.

In general, it looks to me like Butternut bounces. You see some lower numbers, even over a few cycles, and numbers bounce into the 200 - 300s.

Is there any chance that your kitty needs a dental? It's one of those things that can have an effect on numbers.

Interesting... hadn’t thought about his teeth/mouth. Thanks for mentioning them.

He will not allow a thorough examination inside his mouth but from what my vet has been able to see, he has tartar but healthy gums.
Butternut only has 6 teeth. He turned 19 on Valentine’s Day and I’m not sure how my vet would proceed with cleaning his teeth or if she would with anesthesia risks. I’ll have to ask about getting a better look inside his mouth and what we could do if there’s something nasty lurking.

This afternoon appt — He was given potassium supplement, Bupe for the weekend if I think it’s needed, and he’s continuing on Cerenia. PLI results next week. He has had pancreatitis in the past.

His BG kept coming down at the clinc and he came to life as it did. Legs still weak but in 48 hours I should know if potassium will help. Preshot acceptable. Held his dose since it seems he’s cleared his moonshots and I don’t want a nighttime bonk so we can begin the cycle all over again.

Had a different vet today and I, of course, take my iPad w/SS with me to his appts. She was in awe of his SS data. Thanks to the creators of the spreadsheets.

So glad you were able to show your SS to your vet and she found it awesome! Yes, I've found that vets are pretty impressed by all those numbers! I've shared my SS with a couple...but when they want to start 'advising' me to buy that DM food...ugh...One of them said for me to call about dosage advice...I just said, ok, thank you...and that was that.

At any rate, glad that dental was mentioned above...and the potassium seems to have helped.

I hope you and Butternut have a good evening and that his legs continue to improve. It would be good to get to the source of all those bouncies - might make those leg issues better too.
