Tiggy is still in the green. Weighed him last night though ( i do it once a month) and he has put on 6oz. He is now 17.6lbs. I dont want him heavier than that and I think I might even like him a bit lighter which will help his hip dysplasia. I would put him on a diet but he is a free feeder and I am trying to fatten up Bailey.. Any ideas?

Re: 2/20 Tiggy AMPS 65 - weight loss suggestions

Maybe look over the food lists and see which LC foods have the lowest amount of calories? Buy him some type of toy that would make him more active (how about the ring that goes on the floor with opening all the way around and the ball inside which they can't get out--I don't know what that's called)? Have you ever seen the toy called "da bird"?

Re: 2/20 Tiggy AMPS 65 - weight loss suggestions

I'm controlling Blackie's weight by feeding her PS, +1, +2 and +3. Granted, she eats Evo 95% Chicken & Turkey, which is rather high in calories and low in carbs, but she gets a certain amount each of those 4 times twice a day, which I weigh. I also weigh her each morning to see how she's doing, and readjust her food accordingly. Unfortunately, she can't free feed because I also have 7 other cats in the house, so she's secluded in a room for a bit 4x a day (PS and +3) while the others eat.

You may want to try a feeding schedule and/or diet change as Sienne suggested. Also, weighing the food may help, too. Just a thought. :-D

Re: 2/20 Tiggy AMPS 65 - weight loss suggestions

I've used pumpkin to help Shnookie lose weight. It adds fiber and makes them feel fuller, so they eat less often. I just buy canned pumpkin, the plain kind, not the pie mix. Start with just a little, and it can increased up to 10% of their intake. My vet checked with a nutritionist and was told it was safe to use at least for 6-8 months, maybe longer, I don't remember exactly what he said.
