morning all....

I had been thinking that Shadow has been mewing when she was in the litter box....
she'll also occasionally do caterwalling while we are sleeping..... if she's playing....

but I had also noticed some loose poo's..... and smellier too...

she won't let me look and has been upset if I even try to touch....
but this morning she happened to have her tail up in the right position and I could see her anus which was swollen and tender looking.....

I'm hoping it's anal glands and not that the lymphoma is full down her intestinal tract....
she has an ultrasound coming in two weeks ( that vet is on vacation until then so she's first when he returns)

need vetty vines.....

and speaking of cat butts......
I want to share one of my favorite little stories..... ( true or not) it cycles around on the internet.....

So, we had this great 10 year old cat named Jack who just recently
died. Jack was a great cat and the kids would carry him around and sit
on him and nothing ever bothered him. He used to hang out and nap all
day long on this mat in our bathroom.

Well we have 3 kids and at the time of this story they were 4 years
old, 3 years old and 1 year old.

The middle one is Eli. Eli really loves chapstick. LOVES it. He kept
asking to use my chapstick and then losing it. So finally one day I
showed him where in the bathroom I keep my chapstick and how he could
use it whenever he wanted to but he needed to put it right back in the
drawer when he was done.

Last year on Mother's Day, we were having the typical rush around and
try to get ready for Church with everyone crying and carrying on. My
two boys are fighting over the toy in the cereal box. I am trying to
nurse my little one at the same time I am putting on my make-up.
Everything is a mess and everyone has long forgotten that this is a
wonderful day to honor me and the amazing job that is motherhood.

We finally have the older one and the baby loaded in the car and I am
looking for Eli. I have searched everywhere and I finally round the
corner to go into the bathroom. And there was Eli. He was applying my
chapstick very carefully to Jack's . . . rear end. Eli looked right
into my eyes and said 'chapped.' Now if you have a cat, you know that
he is right--their little butts do look pretty chapped. And, frankly,
Jack didn't seem to mind.

And the only question to really ask at that point was whether it was
the FIRST time Eli had done that to the cat's behind or the hundredth.

And THAT is my favorite Mother's Day moment ever because it reminds us
that no matter how hard we try to civilize these glorious little
creatures, there will always be that day when you realize they've been
using your chapstick on the cat's butt.

(((rhiannon))) Sending tons and tons of vines for Shadow and hope it's just anal glands needing to be expressed.

:joyful::joyful::joyful: On the chapstick story. That's too funny.

we're home..... and we really have lots of vetty smells..... alcohol on her neck and leg ....
did a blood draw.... this vet didn't care if she was fasted so let's do it.....

wants me to bring a clean urine catch next week..... talked about drawing one but shadow's never had that done and never had any uti's or problems there. So just a clean catch would be good.

Shadow expressed her own anal glands.... all over the vet....
while she was getting a thorough butt trimming..... try to get that hair out of the way.

her anus looked a lot better by then....
Shadow must have sucked it back in.

anal glands seem fine....
weight only about an ounce or two down from last September....

aspirated her lipoma.... still just looks like a fatty tumor.

teeth a little buildup but not bad.....

talked about everything ....
this vet thought it would be a good idea for me to make the trip to Albuquerque and get an ultrasound from someone different.
She said often a second opinion, different eyes, can give a different perspective.....

so I might do that....
I just need to get the abq vet to agree to let me be in the room with her.....
those big hospitals always want to run off with the animal and make you sit outside....

and it's a bit of trauma for Shadow.... traveling.... big noisy clinic...

nothing really flagged anything today.....

wonder if cat's get hemorrhoids?

I may start giving her some coconut oil on a regular basis and see if that helps....

could be a food is causing us a little grief..... but she's so hard to get to eat that it's hard to take stuff away.....

Sounds like a pretty positive vet visit. I like the idea of a second opinion on the U/S. Scritches to Shadow from me.

I'm sure you're feeling pretty relieved. Loved that the vet recommended a second opinion. That shows you can really trust her. Great story, and equally funny about Shadow's reaction to the butt trimming. :joyful:

Sending lots of positive vines for a good result and good BW.

Great report! Good job on the anal gland expression, Shadow. I'm sure that was also an expression of your feelings of the whole proceedings. Got a good laugh from the chapstick story. :joyful:

Hi Rhiannon,
Well, I'm sure that your girl is so happy to be home and that you are happy with the report. Have a good, restful weekend!!

Hugs and scritches,
