Tonight was a little bit different than the past few. She and everyone else seemed like they were starving so I fed them all at 19:00. Sabian ate quite a bit, and is currently grooming happily. I tested her sugar at 19:20 and she came up at a 299. I'm going to wait until 20:00 to give the insulin tonight, hoping the space between meal and dose will help stabilize her rapid dives and keep her surfing for a bit longer.

I'm going to test again right before dosing though, in case the eating does something funky to her levels.

Edit: I just took her PMPS at 8:00, and it was a whopping 426!!!

I'm not sure just what's going on. She didn't get into anything. It's been an hour since she ate, so maybe the food digestion is freaking it out.

Ideas? Should I push 1u?

Re: ATTENTION NEEDED: 2/20 Sabian (PZI .8u) PMPS - 299

Patick, do not panic. It is one high number......let it go for now and give her the usual .80 and let's see what she does. The insulin may be working quickly on her and you've been testing, feeding and shooting and maybe you've never tested right after eating. Did she get any different food tonight....higher carb maybe? If she is eating well, acting fine....let her be but catch some urine for a ketone test if possible.

Re: ATTENTION NEEDED: 2/20 Sabian (PZI .8u) PMPS - 299

She ate about 3T of her usual 9L Ocean Whitefish (5% carb). I've been trying to limit it to 3-4 times a week, but it's her fave right now.

Re: ATTENTION NEEDED: 2/20 Sabian (PZI .8u) PMPS - 299

I just shot .8u in hopes that it's a lack of information after feeding.

I'm kinda freaking out right now actually.

Re: ATTENTION: 2/20 Sabian (PZI .8u) PMPS-426 post-prandial

+1 after dose is 307. Still very high. Maybe looking at mid 200s for nadir tonight.

Re: ATTENTION: 2/20 Sabian (PZI .8u) PMPS-426 post-prandial

I'm wondering if the dry food she got into earlier this morning could be causing your higher PMPS. With Klinger I always see higher numbers in the 2nd part of the cycle (when he's had higher carbs). Just a thought.

Re: ATTENTION: 2/20 Sabian (PZI .8u) PMPS-426 post-prandial

Patrick, that is quite a drop in 1 hr. from 426 to 307. Did she surf the kitchen by any chance.....bread, cereal, etc.? She'll be fine.......tomorrow is a new day. Just an off number AFAWK so ride it out.

Re: ATTENTION: 2/20 Sabian (PZI .8u) PMPS-426 post-prandial

Okay. +2 is 177. Maybe that was a bad reading?? She's hitting the Prozinc hard tonight otherwise.

Re: 2/20 Sabian (PZI .8u) PMPS-426 +1-307 +2-177

It does seem like a wonky day/night for her, Patrick. It's a pretty steep drop early. I would plan on taking some tests tonight.

Re: 2/20 Sabian (PZI .8u) PMPS-426 +1-307 +2-177

Boy, she sure is dropping tonight. Don't think you can get a bad hi reading but I do know you can get a wonky low reading if enough blood to run the test but not quite enough to give a true reading. I definitely wouldn't think about going to bed till she starts surfing. If she keeps dropping like this on the Prozinc, it is going to be hard to increase. Have you had time yet to start reading up on Lantus or Levemir?

Re: 2/20 Sabian (PZI .8u) PMPS-426 +1-307 +2-177

+3 is 108.

She's still going down. Looks like a longer night than I was expecting. This is weird and frustrating and stressful.

Patrick, do not wait an hour to test her again. Test in 1/2 hr. and see if she has stopped or if she is still charging downward. At this rate, unless she stops, you will need to feed her some food.

She sure can get you going nailbite_smile Hopefully, with that 3.5# she has stopped but........she is a cat so I'd still watch her for another hr. just to make sure. Lesson learned from Mishka

A 318 point drop in 3.5 hours seems like a lot. I'm not sure I'm cut out for this kind of stress. I don't think I'd be this worried if it was a HUMAN.

Just mark it off as "one of those nights". Think of the bond being created between you and Sabian  and all the stress you are learning to deal with  Going to be interesting to see what she is in the a.m. Have a peaceful night.
