Max has been vomiting bile the last few days so back to the vet we went today. The culture was negative and so was the ultrasound and x-rays. It did like he could be having some pancreatitis issues but not alarming. I'm thinking it's progression of CKD like I thought. he went down from 15 lbs 9.5 oz to 15 lbs 7 oz in the week. I think he needs potassium and I know my vet will say wait until we retest in three weeks. I'm thinking of adding just a little now on my own. He will likely need a phosphorus binder as well.

As far as the BG he has been doing okay. Thanks for checking in on us Ruth.

(((Elise))) I was getting worried when you didn't post, so sorry to hear Max has ben vomiting. Poor baby! Does he get Slippery Elm Bark at all? I could not give it to Tiger, her Calcium was on the high side of norml... I hope if this is pancreatitis, that it goes away quickly!! I hope he re-gains that weight quickly and feels better. You will be in my thoughts and prayers! Your momtoo!

I was secretly checking on Max's SS .2oz loss in a week really isn't too much...could really just be water weight I think. Regardless we're sending mega vines for Max to feel better and lots of for you!

I know it's a mixed blessing...the tests don't show anything which is good, but it would have been nice to have a reason for the increased values. We went through that with Trix, too, when we did all the tests a couple years ago.

I'm sure I've mentioned the binder I use to you, but just in case, it's ConSeal AIH by Bock Labs. Unfortunately it is only available through vets' at this point, but this binder has made a huge difference with Trix. She ate "ok" with the powdered aluminum, but the ConSeal bolstered her appy tremendously. I don't know what her phos values are right now, but she does have to go in within a month or so...but like FD, I try to focus more on how she feels and acts than what the numbers say.

I'm sure I don't have to tell you this, either, but being very consistent with her meds - almost as rigid as her insulin dosing schedule - has really helped keep her on track. I always give her Pepcid every 12 hours and cerenia every 24 hours to stay ahead of yucky-tummy stuff, as I found it way too hard to get her to "catch up" after a day of feeling crappy. Any time I tried to cut back on the meds, she would backslide.

Thanks, Amy. I have some powdered AH binder that I will try first but if his appetite is effected I would like to try the ConSeal. If my vet's office doesn't carry it do you think I could order it from one that does?

@Wendy&Neko the product you mention is a Canadian one. One of my CRF/FPS friends said the bile vomit is likely from pancreatitis btw.

So far I haven't been able to find any place to order it from. I can always send a sample to you so you can give it a try, and I know a few people here whose vets have started carrying it for them so maybe your vet can get it in. I don't know why any of the online pet pharmacies don't have it...maybe they'll all eventually get it, though.

Elise - I know ProGut Plus is Canadian, but didn't know if you could get it there. We get lots of American meds here. I got it at the vet. I use it mostly on Theo, but it helped Neko when she was feeling yucky a while back.

If 1/21 is his most recent labs, I don’t see that he needs a P binder or potassium. I would also more likely think the bile is caused by a GI issue than kidneys. I never had a CKD cat vomit bile. It was always clear, foamy vomit.

Elise, the bile vomit doesn't necessarily mean it's p-titis. Harvey does that every so often, and he doesn't have p-titis. For him it's the intestinal lymphoma - so it could be the IBD for Max. Harvey does the clear, foamy liquid that Marje mentions, too.

I don't think Max has IBD. I'm pretty sure it's pancreatitis.

A question...How do you give the Pepcid? Giving it to rebel is a chore.

With my first cat that got it she loved salmon pill pockets until she tasted the Pepcid. She never ate another again and I tried them without meds.

I do the same thing as Elise with all of Trix's med...gelcap. It's not always easy to get it down (Trix can be feisty sometimes), but it really is a life saver when it comes to pilling!

That is a really big jump in numbers in two weeks. Yes, then, I would agree the binder needs to be started right away. Did the CRF group think an ultrasound might be needed?
