Good Morning LL & Happy Tuesday! Last night Gobby went from PM 248 to +2 of 488 to +5 397...suppose its the ole NDW trick! This morning, I found just one moderate pee clump in his LB. Ketones: Negative. Social, preening, alert. Ate 1 entire can FF LB @AMPS! This is a big deal for he & I because for the past several days he's only been eating 1/3-2/3 can. He & civvies had a healthy dip of nip after breffis & then loused/napped w/crocheted mice dipped in nip!

We had a few inches of snow on the ground the past few days but it rained last night and ruined it. However, the temp is dropping today from 39-18 and we should have more snow by about 4 PM. Hopefully, Gobby drops the like temps are going to and surfs throughout the day.

Morning Kat ~O)

Lovely WCR
Think you're right, sure looks like some NDW. Hope that AMPS indicates a better cycle coming, but of
course that's up to Gobbles ;-)

Have a great day!

Top O The Morning To Ye Bruce & Simon!

Still trying to learn all the abbreviations used here what is NDW? :?

Re: 2/19 Gobbles AMPS 275 +3 460

Hi guys .. bummer! Looks like gobbles took a wrong turn somewhere .. back it up mister! Have a great day guys!

Re: 2/19 Gobbles AMPS 275 +3 460 +5 233 ? MC

He's heading in the right direction now. Oh, and BTW--Gobby ate his whole can of food this morning--I was elated. Upon closer inspection, I realized I fed him a can of FF Chicken & Tuna Feast Flaked--8% carbs!!! No wonder he inhaled it. Would 8% be considered MC? how about 7%? I inadvertently bought that the other day at the store AND he just ate 1/3 can of FF Trout Feast Flaked -- 7% carb. I don't think its a huge deal--he eats up to 6% all the time... And I know we'll never know if his spike to 480 at AM+2 was from NDW or his mom giving him candy....

Re: 2/19 Gobbles PMPS 565 ? MC

Well, I guess my immediate previous comment (directly above this one) that he was "headed in the right direction" made Gobby turn around and shoot for the stars, as PMPS is 502...ugh...

Re: 2/19 Gobbles PMPS 502 ? MC

Ug. I call LC anything under 10%, and J.D. does like the FF Trout and Chicken and Tuna, but I try to limit it.
The FF Roasted flavors and the FF Medley Florentines are a little over 10% and I call them MC.

This may be a "high before a break" so don't do what I did (the night of 02/16) and not test all night. He might surprise you. He's a cat.

Oh! I see then that on 2/16 PM JD was 531 then 110 2/17 AM...so it is possible he was much lower than the 110 somewhere in the middle of that night?!?! I usually test Gobby at either PM +5 or +6 and had planned on that tonight as well. (Gosh did he enjoy the FF C&T Flaked this morning! I will have to pick up some MC -- Gobby's cupboard ranges from 2%-8% & 16%-21%.

Re: 2/19 Gobbles PMPS 502 ? MC

Generally, anything below 10% is considered LC and between 10 - 15% is MC. However, it really depends on how carb sensitive your cat is. Jill's Alex can get a 30 point bump from a piece of chicken -- Alex is very carb sensitive. The percentages are only a guideline. You need to know your cat and how your cat responds to carbs. It's entirely possible that the 7% is MC for Gobbles.

I thought chicken didn't have any carbs in it? I give Gobble's broiled chicken pretty regularly (the chicken starts out as raw, fresh chicken and is cut up then boiled in a few inches of water)--In fact, he had some, along with a small saucer of the chicken water, at dinner....

Re: 2/19 Gobbles PMPS 502 ? MC

Chicken is zero carbs. But the thing is, eating anything will put glucose in a cat's system. Their digestive system is so damned efficient that they get all the glucose needed for energy by turning both protiens and fats into glucose. Hence the need for zero carbohydrates in their food.
If you have a couple of hours to burn, here's a great page of information to read:
http://maxshouse.com/feline_nutrition.htm
Here's the relevant info though:
Carbohydrates

All animals have a metabolic requirement for glucose. Carnivores, such as the cat, convert glucogenic amino acids and glycerol to glucose for the maintenance of blood glucose, and therefore, have no established dietary requirement for carbohydrates.

Because cats have adapted to diets high in protein and low in carbohydrate, continuous activity of amino acid catabolic enzymes provides a continuous source of carbon skeletons for glucose or energy production and nitrogen for synthesis of dispensable amino acids and other nitrogenous compounds. This continuous metabolic state causes the cat to catabolize a substantial amount of protein after each meal, regardless of its protein content. The cat does not have the capability to conserve nitrogen from the body's general nitrogen pool leading to an obligate nitrogen loss and a higher dietary protein requiremerit than omnivores.

In general, an absence of dietary carbohydrate in the feline diet will not affect blood glucose levels or cause an energy deficiency; this is because the body can use protein and the glycerol portion of fat for glucose production, and fat and protein for energy.

ECID is definitely true when it comes to fuds. Trix bounces all over the place on Wellness chicken, which is supposed to be 4%.

I hope you guys are having a great night. Gobby...come down from that floor, OK?
