Re: 2/19 Enana AMPS 351

good deal.

I'm glad her numbers came down on their own.

I forgot to add last night, if you do go get some R, you have to have syringes with 0.5 unit markings. That's probably what you already have, but I'm just checking. No rush, though. Her numbers came down, it would just be something to have on hand if there is a next time.

+2 198

All 5ps present. I have to hear hear her heart again now that she is lower to see if the skip only happens with high BG. Doubt it.

The syringes I bought from Hocks.com do not have 1/2 marks. I will try to send them back to get ones that do.

Thanks!

you can get syringes with 1/2 unit markings at Wal-Mart too. Their ReliOn brand has 1/2 unit markings on the 3/10cc syringes.

Did the vet seem concerned about the heart? I wonder if it might be time for a cardiac workup soon, just so you know what you're dealing with.

Re: 2/19 Enana AMPS 351 +3 198 +4 153 +6 247

+10 321

I opened one bad from the Hocks box..:/ I guess I'll send just one back.

She noticed the heart skipping but was much more concerned about the DKA. I haven't talked to her about that again. I'll call her Monday to see what she says.

Hi Binks!

Re: 2/19 Enana PMPS 385 +1 402

+1 402

She is such a private-shy cat that I dont know if she is feeling well or if she is just sleepy and/or in a pissy mood. Calicos are pissy to start with...

She was laying by my feet and I rubbed my feet against her...i felt a small wet spot. I think is pee. :-|

Re: 2/19 Enana PMPS 385 +1 402

Here's what the bounces are all about. Enana isn't used to being in lower numbers. Most of our kitties were hanging around in high number for some time before they were diagnosed. As a result, when the insulin starts working and brings numbers into more normal ranges OR if the drop is fast, there's a reaction to those changes. The liver "panics" and releases a stored form of glucose along with counterregulatory hormones. The liver reacts as if Enana is experiencing hypoglycemia and this reaction is a means of offsetting what could be a dangerous situation -- however, it's a false alarm. The bottom line is that the BG number spike up. As Enana spends more and more time in lower numbers the liver will learn to not overreact. We refer to this as Liver Training School (LTS). It can take up to 72 hours for a bounce to clear.

It looks like the bounce is clearing already. Be watchful of Enana's numbers. That's sizable drop by +2.

Re: 2/19 Enana PMPS 385 +1 402 +2 308

My problem with her numbers (and my inability to know what they mean) is that sometimes she drops pretty fast and sometimes she crawls. What I have noticed lately is that she drops pretty fast and by +4 she is going up again....

I'll keep an eye on her. I hope she gets out of this red-pink stage soon.
