I suppose it's a good sign that he's not peeing as much, but I haven't been able to check for ketones in 5 days, and I've been waiting for an hour already this morning. (No hx of DKA and all tests have been negative so far.) Going back to bed after posting this.

I'm leaving this afternoon for a 4-day conference. 6 units will be given by one of the sitters for the next 8 cycles. This will be the first time I've left the apartment for more than 4 hours at a time since moving here in mid-December.

Adrian, hope you have a good productive time at the conference. Will you be able to post updates from the pet sitter here while you're away?

Sending good happy safe vines and lots of prayers to you and Chino that everything will go absolutely fine while you are away. And it will!! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I hope you have a great time at the conference, and they provide some non confererence activities that let you relax a bit. Four days isn't long and Chino will be fine. :bighug:

Hypophysectomy is a more immediate solution, radiation can takes months to retake effect. The trade off is that I am not sure how much experience the folks at WSU have. You might want to email and ask. I have only heard of two cats having the procedure there and that was over a year ago. For one they didn't get all the tumour so SRT was needed in addition. For the second there were some complications involving bleeding, don't know how it worked out. The folks at RVC have done over 50 of the operations. Success rate is proportional to experience of the surgeon.

Here's a post from one of our members whose kitty just had the surgery in the UK. http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/louie-acromegaly-hypophysectomy-off-the-juice.173152/
Kitties with surgery have higher odds of going OTJ, and much sooner. And with it you don't have to worry about lingering effects of the tumour. But it also costs more, recovery time is longer, and it's medically riskier.
