I knew a long time ago that Autumn refused to read the manual on How To Be A Good Sugarcat. But it also appears she is refusing to read the primer on the duration of different insulins. Since the highest she went last night was 71 right after she ate and I was exhausted after a week of no sleep before the insulin switch trying to keep her from deep sea diving and fell asleep and missed testing her overnight. So with no pm shot I figured she was going to be sky high this morning, boy was I wrong.

WOW She really does NOT want any more insulin. :o Now if she could just convince Mr P, she'd have it made. ;-)

Re: 2/19 Autumn +24/ambg-40

That is amazing, Mel. N never lasts that long.....But you know that. Well, do you think a drop is any less than .1? That's the only idea I have.

Re: 2/19 Autumn +24/ambg-40

Lol yes I know N never last this long but I also kinda figured she would do this if I put her on an insulin that I could shoot as needed. Because once I can pull her off the mountain when she does spike she'll normally stay down and surf. Just for unknown reasons she will suddenly spike then can't pull herself off the mountain. If she's down she stays there. I've often wondered if her spikes are related to back pain.

You see before I adopted her at some point she was shot in the face, shoulder, and back with bird shot. To date between the vet and I we've removed 10 bbs from various parts of her body. And she has nerve damage in her back that causes her to shuffle like a raccoon as well as making her tail useless. She has no control or movement in her tail.

Yes Sue I can go smaller than .1 lol I can actually get 10drops out of a half unit. lol

You need to available for "Drop Lessons", Mel. :-D Interesting about her back pain. I suppose that could definitely be part of the puzzle that is Autumn. What meds could she get? If you gave something for pain when she was high, wonder if her level would go down without insulin?

Re: 2/19 Autumn +24/ambg-40

@Sue

I've wondered that for awhile. But as dynamite as her vet is this has been a battle that so far I haven't won with her. I insist Autumn hurts and she disagrees. Her belief is Autumn doesn't feel her tail at all. But I've noticed she spikes exactly when my fibro starts kicking up with storms. Plus on the high days she rounds her back more when she walks. Which tells me her back is sore.

Yeah Autumn was a wreck when I adopted her but she was so worth it. And she reminds me of that every night when she crawls under the covers to cuddle and wakes me in the morning with nuzzles and kisses.

The tail may be what doesn't work, but the injury may be further up from there, ie between tail base and head.

Watch for signs of spinal pain, not tail pain. Gently applying firm pressure along both sides of the spine moving slowly up and down along the spine may identify an area of discomfort.

You know I hadn't thought about going the homopathic route. I need to look into that. Wish she could tell me where and what hurts because I would think the homopathic treatment would be different if it was muscle, bone, or nerve pain. Although maybe I can find something for just general pain relief. I do know the cold bothers her front feet from the botched declaw. Poor baby doesn't have much of her front toes left she reminds me of a Chinese woman who had her feet bound.

That makes me so sad. Can't understand people that are so worried about their furniture that they mutilate their cats. Mom has an adopted boy that was declawed and his feet are so sensitive she has to use a certain type of litter.

I just don't understand the whole concept. But then, I can't see docking a dogs ears, etc, either. But that's JMO and it's worth what ya paid for it!

Re: 2/19 Autumn +24/ambg-40, amps-299,+3-159,+6-115

I'm with you Deb just never got the concept. Although I now have 3 front declawed but they all came that way. What angers me even more are those like Autumn and Arabella's previous owners who declaw then dump them outside.

Declawed cats should never be outside, unless they are contained where no other animals can get to them. They have little self protection.

Had a neighbor's declawed cat come over once, years ago and my 3 month old kitten tore him up, even though he was 3 times her size, he had no way to protect himself. It's just WRONG on so many levels! :-x

OK off my soapbox, this is one subject that p*sses me off royally.

So how's the weather there Mel?

Re: 2/19 Autumn +24/ambg-40, amps-299,+3-159,+6-115,+8-129

Right now 64 any sunny however we have a Severe winter weather warning that goes into effect tonight when we are suppose to get 1-3 inches of snow with 30-40 mph sustained winds and gusts up to 50mph. But Friday is back to the high 40s again....ahhh Springtime in the Heartland.

Same here, mid 60's and I got all the windows open! :-D Got a fan in the window to get rid of the stale air. Have to 'change' my air like I change the oil in the truck.

BTW - 74 days now without a smoke and still loving it! :thumbup

Re: 2/19 Autumn +24/ambg-40, amps-299,+3-159,+6-115,+8-129

Pretty nice #'s for Autumn. That's the saddest story of her past history. Poor, poor sweetie! Like your other rescues, she won the lottery when she finally made her way to you Mel.

Debbie, that's so awesome about the 74 days! Seriously, quite the accomplishment. dancing_cat

Re: 2/19 Autumn +24/ambg-40, amps-299,+3-159,+6-115,+8-129

Yeah but if any more show up I'm going to need to win the lottery to feed them in fact I just had to turn down another sugarcat. I hate it when I can't save them all. At least the one I had to decline wasn't at risk of euthanasia. If I had the space I would probably just open a sanctuary for special needs furkids. Oh well maybe someday. Because after my current tribe I'm not sure I know how to function without alarms for tests, shots and meds. A completely healthy and normal pet would freak me out.

Re: 2/19 Autumn +12-144 Here we go again.

Leave it to a tortie to break the rules. Although I'm wondering if these extend durations isn't a little of the Levemir still in her system. If it is she should start showing a normal N cycle by about tomorrow or Friday.

Re: 2/19 Autumn +12-144 Here we go again.

I think Lucian was off the Lev for a day or so when he started the PZI. I don't remember, you know my memory is an inch long! But I think so.

How long has it been since she had the Lev before you started the N?

Re: 2/19 Autumn +12-144 Here we go again.

She had Lev in the morning then started the N that night so she's been on the N for two full days now. But she's dropping again and all I've done is feed her.

Is she even going to be on insulin by the time her PZI gets here? lol

Mel and The Fur Gang

It would be great if she wasn't. So nice that she isn't jumping into the reds. Your being able to chase the number is a great advantage for her.

Would you want to give her a little higher carb when she starts down, to keep the cycle shallower?

Sue we think a like just got home from the store with a bunch of medium carb stuff to slow her roll. Also stocked up on test strips...Thank God she's easy to test and actually goes to her kit if she thinks she's too low. She's even whacked me with it at night a couple of times to get my attention. lol
