2/18 OT Sootie's Tribe: Caturday greetings & Azalea update

Howdy all,
When I started to write I thought it was still 2/17 Friday. Oops.

It's been a few days since starting a new post. Have wanted not to inundate and these days have not been particularly easy.

The good news is that Azalea is continuing to improve, appetite improving, less post dental surgery oral ooze, and the post op inflammation seems to be improving day by day. Her spritelyness is returning, today ...oops yesterday...being especially so. One thing tho is that she is shedding mightily lately.

Her fud still includes her liver shake appetizers (have also been including radcat raw turkey with the rest of the ingredients). And lapping it up without diving her chin into it!

In the sad news, my friend texted me in the morning (now being yesterday morning) that her husband passed away during the night. We talked for quite awhile tonight and talked for quite awhile, too, with our friend (the other of the three little maids from school, as Steve lovingly describes us).

I'm so sorry to read that your friend's husband passed. I know that is a blow to your heart. I'm sure your friend is grateful for the support she receives from you and you from her. I will include you all in my prayers.

I am so happy to read that my dear Azalea (I seem to have taken possession of her in my heart) is doing so well. Her eagerness to eat the liver shake is particularly heartening, as that is a very nutritious concoction. Sadly, my Minka couldn't benefit from it - it was too rich for her delicate tummy. However, I stand by it's efficacy, and Azalea is proof of that.

I am sending my strongest appy and healing vines to Azalea, along with heart healing and comfort vines of equal strength to you and your dear friend.

Good morning and thank you all.

Today am on board to help my friend select and bring some of David's pottery and art work to the funeral home for tomorrow morning's calling hours. He was an amazing graphic and ceramic artist.

As for little Azalea: her mouth much less gunky this morning (the overnight gunk having been the most prolific).
Right now she is taking turns between liver shake and her slurry. Is now sunbeam bathing.

Now that all of the kitties have indicated that what this bean offered for breffis was a good choice (including a topper of plain sardines and sardine water) I can now begin the next part of the day for my friend, on call for whenever she is ready. But not before freshening up from Azalea's proliferation liquid prednisolone-induced saliva.

Thank you.

Am in a fog. By the end of the afternoon, I crashed and in fever feeling slump.
Wish to reply to each of you but putting thought to words a fuzz right now....and A jumble....Ever felt as if in super slow motion? Poor cats...an hour late with supper all bc of their fog headed bean moving so slowly.

And with my friend and her David so deeply in our hearts and souls, Sootie and Bo's beautiful daily presence in our hearts and memory have been ever more so these past few days. I am hoping that they are guiding and feeling that they assuring David (and us) that all is well in this journey.

On another note, here's a photo of "Little Miss Engine That Can (and Does)" hoping Azalea's impromptu supper eating station will bring smiles.

Good evening dear friends.
Yesterday was a time of gentle celebration and gathering in honoring David and in celebration of his life and friendship. Although technically "calling hours," the familiar funeral home space (too familiar from many preceding calling hours for friends who've traversed), seemed transformed to lightness of place and space both with David's art, the congeniality and love that abounded and the warmth of yesterday's Spring-like sunbeams. Among his art was a ceramic sculpture that he had made to be his urn. Placed in such a way to be both organically symbiotic as in a gallery setting and yet the placement being familiar and symbolic for such occasions. Very subtle. Very David.

Afterwards, we all seguewayed to a nearby Lebanese restaurant for what became an afternoon of sharing more memories with laughter and tears while we sampled wonderful middle eastern teas (my personal favorite was rose water tea with pine nuts!), and all manner of middle eastern foods. Some new memories also to to lighten the day. For instance, Steve's hearing (or lack thereof) often can be occasion for comic relief. And he is a good sport. By late afternoon we all parted for the day, feeling settled and comforted and ready for goodly naps.

Azalea continues to improve. Less mouth ooze each day, appetite good, but oh my such a fuss and froth of saliva with the prednisolone doses!

Tomorrow morning is her recheck at the dentist. Crossing paws for a good report!

Good morning and thank you all

Azalea's check up yesterday at the dentist was good. He got good look at her mouth (she hissed only once ) and gave a thumbs up for her progress. Am continuing with the protocol of decreasing prednisolone dosages. He thinks the test will be during the EOD phase and whether those two weeks will tell if she won't need it any more or if may have to be continued.

Have been continuing the probiotics and her other supplements and herbals daily. Truly a situation where the traditional and alternative approaches are working together. Whew!

Here are a few photos, from dental surgery day (don't worry just a couple of the 27 images DV did!) and Miss A this morning, trying out thicker food after her raw liver/radcat turkey shake appetizer.

My apologies for not writing sooner and sharing individual thanks for all your support for both Azalea and we humans in the loss of our friend David. Been keeping in touch with Edmee, have been inordinately sleepy. Yesterday she decided to do something different for her and got her hair cut, an entirely new do. Kinda like a spa day, gentle time for her. I resumed tutoring another friend who is studying for citizenship exam.

I know, when I lost my husband, I almost felt like I needed to reinvent myself; I had never even imagined myself without him since we got married, and didn't really know who I was, anymore, without him.

Yes, Lucy, sometimes the mixed-bag approach works best. Although my HV cringed when I updated about the prednisolone and AB oh well.

Hi Carla,
Glad to hear that Furball doing ok. I feel the same way about gauging progress with Spunky's polyp ear. Sometimes I sense that she's uncomfortable but then she's full of beans.
