Good Morning.

viewtopic.php?f=9&t=113885

We survived the night of horror, and we'll see what today brings. I am still astonished by my stupendous mistake. During my sleepless night, I thought of many adjectives that describe the enormity of my boon doggle.

Ole is behaving as he usually does in the morning and used all of his usual antics to wake me up for breakfast. I gave him a 0 carb meal and 9uL. Needless to say, I am calling in "My cat is sick" today and will work from home. I had a meeting this morning, but can reschedule it for Thursday.

Keep your fingers and paws crossed for Ole. I can't believe what I did to him. I will be processing all day what can be learned from my mistake.

Thank you for all you do.

Healing vines to all of you in need!

Rebekah

Re: 2/18 Ole AMPS 557

Hi, Rebekah

I am sending postive thoughts, and healing vines for Ole.

I'm not familiar with 9uR. I'm guessing that's a dose amount...? Please explain. I'm glad to hear that you'll be working from home today. It'll give you plenty of opportunity to test him.

Try and have a good day. :YMHUG:

Re: 2/18 Ole AMPS 557

Morning Rebekah ~O) ~O) ~O)

What a day for you. I think we have all done that at one point or another... and you knew what to do to keep Ole safe. You will come up with a solution so it doesn't happen again. Maybe keep the R in a place where you really have to think, and go and get it. I dunno... I can remember many a morning with Mannie where I really had to "focus" and get dosing etc right. We are all on such auto pilot mode sometimes.

I hope Ole has a great day. it sounds like he is no worse for wear. GO OLE! It is wonderful that you can work from home. Awesome! Enjoy your day today.

Re: 2/18 Ole AMPS 557

Ole was probably like...all this food! What a feast!! Sounds like he didn't mind at all. Hope today brings you some lower, safe numbers.

Re: 2/18 Ole AMPS 557

try not to beat yourself up rebekah. you're not the first person to grab the wrong vial and i'm sure you won't be the last. heck, we've even had people shoot the wrong cat! mistakes happen. once you realized the mistake you stayed up all night and did everything in your power to keep ole safe and did a great job doing it. he's safe and probably in a lot better shape than you are today. i hope you can fit some naps into your day. you must be exhausted.

Re: 2/18 Ole AMPS 557

oops, I posted in yesterday's condo. I agree, though. You did what needed to be done and kept Ole safe. That's what matters. (((((hugs))))

Re: 2/18 Ole AMPS 557

Oh... It's the wrong insulin. I agree with the others, though. Mistakes happen. Hang in there, and try not to beat yourself up over it, ok? We're all human. I hope that you can get a nap in today. :YMHUG:

Re: 2/18 Ole AMPS 557

Definitely don't beat yourself up! I remember someone who shot the civie instead of the diabetic. Oops. Everyone was fine. The main thing is you realized the mistake and tested and fed to keep your guy safe. You should be very proud of yourself. One thing to consider is to change your system so that the two vials are easy to keep straight. Time for Ole to practice his curling skills and slide down a bit today. Hugs to you, Rebekah!

Re: 2/18 Ole AMPS 557 +3 446

Hello all!

Today I am full of tears, tears of relief and tears of heightened emotion caused by lack of sleep. We have taken the steps that that mistake can never happen again. I must admit, my system was pretty piss-poor before. Even though I was very aware that a mix up could happen, I relied on my powers of observance only...and that is what frustrates me. I hope there is NEVER a repeater of this, to me or to any other CG ever.

The issue has forced me to address a couple issues, beyond my R storage issues. I have had a languishing relationship with my vet. Though she is a very nice vet, I believe I am going to switch to Zener's vet for Ole. My vet was initially attentive, but I felt a growing push back, and then stopped communicating with her all together (my character weakness to avoid conflict, again). Luckily, in our small town, there are those who have forged a path before Ole and I, so I should take advantage of that. I believe I will be in good hands with Liz, Anne and Mr Z's vet.

Ole is doing well, we were just outside for some morning air. He is tired, as to be expected. His litter boxes are well used. He had a soft stool and passed some gas last night, so I'll keep my eye on that today, as well as check for K. What I am most sorry about is of course that I have caused Ole so much unnecessary discomfort. I hope my little trooper rebounds with his usual panache.

Thank you again,
Rebekah

Re: 2/18 Ole AMPS 557 +3 446

I am so happy Ole is okay. Whew!!!

Last night, after this happened, I put our R in a big orange pill bottle in the fridge.

Re: 2/18 Ole AMPS 557 +3 446

Ole is in good hands. And I'm glad you are going to a vet that has been down this road. That's one reason I'm heading to a different vet myself.

I venture to guess that Ole loved all the extra attention!

Re: 2/18 Ole AMPS 557 +3 446

Hi Rebekah,
I missed last night's drama, but am very glad that all turned out OK. You did an excellent job. I hope that Ole will get his bgs settled over the next day or so. You are very smart to change vets to one who you know has up-to-date experience with feline diabetes.
Thinking of you and sending vines for a normal day.

Re: 2/18 Ole AMPS 557 +3 446

Hi Rebekah:

I was so glad to hear you are both doing so good this morning. :-D

Please don't beat yourself up because you made a mistake that was unintentional. You are a great Mom and you have learned so much. Ole is still a beautiful kitty who got to eat lots of nummy things! :-D I think R deserves red duck tape on it! You also taught other folks along the way. It is easy to see you love him so much!

I hope you are napping and cuddling!

Hi there

Uff Da !

Sooooo happy Ole is OK.

He will likely have a 'HC hangover' after last nights carb-a- rama
I'm sure in a few days he'll be back in his groove. He's a resilient little guy!

I can only imagine the horror you must have felt the moment you realized what happened - but you sprung into action and today all is well.

I'm glad to hear you will be changing vets - I didn't realize you were less than happy with the one Ole was seeing.

Don't be too hard on yourself - mistakes happen. Take care of yourself today - you've been through the wringer.

Re: 2/18 Ole AMPS 557 +3 446

(((Rebekah))) I am so happy to see your condo today and see that Ole is safe, and that's what is important. Great job doing what you needed to last night. :YMHUG: :YMHUG: I am amazed by what was on the menu last night for him. Lucky cat - bread and honey! Nice to see Ole in reds. Who thought we'd ever say that. From past experience here, Neko managed to get bread out of her system in 24 hours.

Having a vet who will work with you gives great peace of mind.

Re: 2/18 Ole AMPS 557 +3 446 +5 379

Take it easy little fella! I hope he hovers in the pinks as he seems to like it there. He is still acting very tired, as am I. I have a close eye on him, of course.

Yes, last night Ole was partying pretty hard! What with all of his favorites (bread) and some new favorites... Like the EVO kibble marinated in honey, he loved that. I knew he was going to have a whopper of a hang over today, if he survived, poor guy. He is getting plenty of fluids and rest.

Thank you for all of your strong feelings, we can feel them from here! Bless you all.

Living and learning everyday!

Rebekah

Rebekah:

It made me so happy to see your condo this morning and read how well Ole is doing. You are one heck of a good mom, and your crisis handling skills are excellent. I don't know if I could have been that competent and calm. You did a wonderful job and your kitty is so lucky to have you. Chalk this one up as a learning experience, for you and for many of us here on the board. I hope you and Ole both get some much needed rest today. Perhaps you need to explain to Ole that yesterday was a holiday and he cannot expect that kind of a feast again any time soon! He may be looking for that bread and honey later!

Re: 2/18 Ole AMPS 557 +3 446 +5 379 +7 HI

Ole is doing well, perhaps a little lower energy that normal. Neither one of us is going to win any beauty contests today, that's for sure.

His behavior is very typical for him. The only thing I think is different that normal is that he is hitting the water dish every couple of hours. He usually gets plenty of fluids with his meals, enough to sustain him through the day. Perhaps he is thirsty due to his carb-over.

I imagine he is going to be jumping around for a bit. I hope he calms down soon, poor little guy. We have spent quite a bit of time out side lounging in the sunshine.

Thank you again,
Rebekah

Re: 2/18 Ole AMPS 557 +3 446 +5 379 +7 HI

Hi Rebekah,

I am glad that Ole is doing well. You had some night last night. You handled a crisis situation very well. I hope you guys got some rest today.

Re: 2/18 Ole AMPS 557 +3 446 +5 379 +7 HI

Ole probably thought last night was his birthday or something. Lucy would have LOVED having all that yummy goodness stuffed into her all night long. She wouldn't have cared about a hangover either - I'm sure she would think it was worth it.

Sounds like Ole is doing just fine. I hope you can get some rest today and tonight.

Good evening,

I am exhausted and hitting the hay. Alex will test in a couple of hours.

Thanks again for your help last night and words of encouragement today.

Rebekah

I'm glad Ole is doing well today. I hope you have a wonderfully restful and relaxing night tonight...you deserve it. :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

((((rebekah))))

i was out of town last night and am just catching up. what a scary night! my two thoughts - 1) that everyone makes mistakes, so stop beating yourself up and 2) how lucky Ole' is to have you for a bean. There are plenty of people who couldn't have handled the emergency like you did. so KUDOS!

Donaleen had a great idea - to put the R in an orange prescription bottle. brilliant.

sending you and Ole' lots of TLC. i'm so glad you're both ok. sleep well. :YMHUG:
