Wednesday and no work for me as I am on staycation with Mike! Happy 4th Annifursary to Lil T. Sending vines to Sasha, Minka, and Harvey, Max, Sabrina, Julie, Amy's Dad, and Elise's Mom and any others in need.

Missy G is out on the catio sunning herself. The weather is gorgeous and she's enjoying every minute. Yesterday the chiro vet came as I could tell that Tobey was slouching to one side again which usually means they've wrestled enough that it's thrown him a little out of alignment. She does very gentle, massage-like energy work and realignment....not bone crunching chiro. They actually love it although when we first started on each of them (out on the catio), they were both eyeballing the escape hatch :):):) But then it was oh yeah...I remember this and it feels good!!! And of course, perfect alignment = more wrasslin'!

I'm beginning to wonder if that loose tooth and minor infection was affecting Gracie's numbers more than we realized as she is starting to do much better BG-wise. It's been one week since the dental and one week on a/bs. We're monitoring her closely since resolution of the infection could cause her insulin needs to decrease suddenly. She had a great night last night :D We are also finding that the Ziwipeak Beef (10%) is working nicely to control her BG ....better than the Core Indoor (12%) which we were having to use with a lot of karo. But it could also be the resolution of the mouth issue lets the dose work better, thus she is flatter, thus she doesn't need much food management.

Since we are homebound today with our little Principessa, we are going to try to get a few things done around here.....starting the pool tile scrubbing. My cousin is coming back Mar 10 with her daughter for a few days so I want to get the place looking dewinterized ;);) I've decided to not go to TX this week. I want to enjoy this awesome weather and time with Mike before his vacation is over.

Have a great day.

Nice slide, Gracie, but I do think that is far enough. How about coming up just a little and surfing. There's quite a crowd in the lagoon today. I guess you all are celebrating Tarragon's Annifursary and Gabby's birthday still. You kitties sure know how to party!

I'm glad you are able to take some time at home with Mike, Marje. Enjoy!

Oh Gracie. You can slide up a tad now. A lot of splashing in the Lagoon today; all that commotion can attract sharks, you know.

Have a great staycation, Marje. Some fun, too.

Yes...pretty numbers for a bit. We fed some 10% and a drop of karo to get that 56 up because we're trying to keep her up a bit (do not like her to be low). +6 was 79. Perfect. Fed a little more LC at +6.5 and decided to give her a testing break until +8. Two hours from her last test and 1.5 hours since food. +8 was 25!!!

Dose reduction earned and given. Guess we were on the right track to be testing so much with the thought the a/b was kicking in and bad tooth out. We give her a bitty break at a time that she is usually starts to flatten out and ....kapow!

Marje,
For "educational purposes"... Did you have any clue visually, how she looked or acted, that she was anywhere close to 25? ANY signs or symptoms?

Absolutely none at all. She's been this low before and never seems to bother her. She was on her condo on the catio, chirped as she always does when we went to test, rolled over and purred as usual. She did not follow me into the kitchen and act like she was hungry.

She could not have been low long....not that we want her there at all...it scares the you-know-what out of me. Shr has seemed fine all day and this evening.

A "know your cat" question, but what did it take to bump it up?

We fed her .45 oz of 10% and 0.5 ml karo and rechecked her 20 mins after she finished eating and she was up to mid forties. She seems to do better with a LC/MC food and karo than HC gravy or food. We fed her more 10% to boost her up a little more and she was then 97 at +9.5.

We will, of course, be watching her closely tonight even with the dose reduction.

Yo Gracie, I want you to surf safe tonight! 25 is too low. You can't even see the bottom the lagoon is so deep there! I'll be keeping my eye on you and I've got the waterwings ready, in case you decide to dive deep again!
~ Rusty, LagoonMeister

Hi Marje, Wow, that is an eye-opener! I hope you guys get some sleep tonight. The kitties should be nice and relaxed after their chiropractic. Glad Tobey is OK. We don't want him to be lopsided!
Enjoy your staycation. It's really great that Mike has vacation and that you can spend it together.

Hugs and scritches,

Ella & Rusty

YAY for staycations!!!! YAY for kitty chiropractors that help kitties get ready for more wrasslin'! Lookin' good tonight, Miss Gracie! Enjoy the rest of your staycation, Marje & Mike!

I love it when condos serve so well as "educational opportunities".:D

I've never even seen a pen of Levemir. But I've come to learn whatever I do know by reading condos like this one. The reason I asked the questions I did was I was hoping that some of the people that read Gracie's condos (not just Gracie's of course) are able to catch some of the things I have over the years I've been lurking.

I think today's adventures illustrate some good points -

1 - This doesn't mean you always have to be assuming the worst, but never assume everything is just peachy just because your kitty isn't showing symptoms of "hypo". Some cats don't. But LBG was hypoglycemic. She just wasn't tellin'.
2 - Your meter is your best friend.
3 - A 25 is a 25. No matter how many times you see a low number, it IS always a big deal. Even taking into account " meter variance " of 20%, Gracie was at most at 30. Even though Marje has seen "20s" before, I'm betting her heart rate increased a good bit when that number showed up?
4 - It really is all about "know thy cat". I know a lot of people, when seeing a 25, would have grabbed the bottle of Mrs. Butterworth and just hosed the cat down. I probably would have! Maybe Marje did the first time Gracie went low? But after trying different things, eventually you have the data to know what will work for your kitty.
5 - sometimes, when going low, a kitty will bounce sky high when " liver panic" happens. But obviously, some times they don't.

I would like to thank Lil Stinker for her efforts in helping with my continuing education.

Great synopsis, Carl.

But I would prefer LBG leave the teaching to us and not be the teaching example. And yes, my heart still stops at 30s much less 20s.
