Good Morning Friends! Still not seeing significant drops... I think I need to increase the dose to 2u. Agree? (I know I need to do more spot checks...)

I'm actually having some minor surgery this morning and then will be home with Mr. Giz for a week, so it would be a good time to increase and watch what happens.

Thoughts??

Good morning. It looks like Gizzy may need an increase but since he just came off of the Baytril I might wait another cycle to see if his numbers are any better. He has had some blue at night a couple of days ago so he may be going lower and bouncing during the day.
Let's see what other's think.

Good luck with your surgery.

Helllllo! On vicodin and feelin a little spacey!! ha ha Everything went well with the surgery though! (THANK YOU FOR ASKING!!) Now I'm fixed and I just need to work on Gizzy! ;-)

I just tested him (+5) and he's at 299 so hopefully he'll keep going down overnight. If I wake up, I will test him again preferably around +8. I am planning to up his dose to 2u in the morning.

He's off the Baytril, but still has the red line on his gums?? There was no sign of infection in his bloodwork. He just had a dental in 11/10. He's still sneezing a bit, so I absolutely think the insulin resistance is related to the feline herpes. I'm hoping if I get to the correct dosage, it'll start to kick in on a regular basis.

I hate having to feed him between tests because I feel like it throws off the #'s...but he can't go more than 6 hours without eating - he practically climbs on my head!! So this is his feeding schedule - do you think this is ok?

6am - 1 can of FF with shot
noon - 1/2 can FF with 250mg of Lysine
6:00pm - 1 can FF with shot
10:30pm - 1/2 can with 250mg Lysine
Usually about 3:00am he wakes me up for food (this was his old feeding time and I can't break him of it - believe me I tried!!)
In between I'll give him some small pieces of boiled chicken if he's crazy hungry.

OK - back to bed again!!

I'm glad the surgery went well and that they gave you good drugs!

I tend to think 1 can all at shot time may be a lot of food for Gizzy's pancreas to deal with. Generally, we encourage you to give smaller meals that are spread out over several hours so you're not flooding the system and forcing the pancreas (if it's working) to wear itself out. Would it be possible for you to divide all of the food and feed over the first half of the cycle. Alternatively, give almost all of the food between pre-shot and +4 and then just a snack at +6?

Yes, I have automatic feeders (an absolute MUST HAVE!!) so that is very possible and Gizzy would be in heaven!!
Do you typically do a 1/2 can at most?

I feed Gabby approximately 1-1/2 cans of food per day. She gets 1/4 can at pre-shot and +1 and then 1/8 of a can at +2 and +3. These are 3 ounce cans of Wellness.

You're feeding double the amount that I am. How large of a cat is Gizzy? Dr. Lisa's site gives info on the number of calories a cat needs based on the cat's weight.

14 lbs isn't all that big. That's about what Gabby weighs. Using Dr. Lisa's formula for calories per day, Gizzy should be getting approx. 260 calories per day. She also notes that this is a generous calculation. As long as Gizzy isn't becoming rotund, you're good.

He used to weigh 17!!
He's pretty much a slim jim right now! I wish he would start gaining some weight back!!
It'll come, I'm on a mission now. I hope 2u does the trick!
Have a great day!!
