Gen and I are having quite a morning. I was starting my wfh day from bed with him snuggled up, drinking tea and going through work emails, and there was a huge CRASH! from just outside. A giant chunk of ice smashed down from the apartment building roof or gutter, took out one of my small window boxes, tore holes in my window screen, and smashed up the window directly below mine. Which was terrifying. Gen and I are okay, but my head was right by the window at the time and I'm pretty shook up.

Gen was initially very scared too, but you wouldn't know it from his BG, which is setting off the Libre alarm at intervals right now (and not doing much for my nervous system tbh).

I hope all of you are having a much calmer Wednesday than I am. Safe surfs to your sweet kitties!

RIP, my strawberry plants. 😢

Gen's eating well, a little at a time, but he's hanging out at 53 and doesn't seem to be interested in going any higher right now. I'm not breaking out the MC unless he drops more, since this isn't a dangerous number or anything, but I'm glad I'm home today. He dropped pretty fast, obviously; not sure what to do about that that I'm not already doing.

Well Gen certainly likes this dose for some green.
Stay safe Gen, no limes please.
I’m so glad you’re both ok after that ice incident outside :bighug:
Very scary 😱
Have a safe surf 🌊🏄‍♂️💓

Gen seems determined to be at 53 today. when he hit 50 and I gave him the MC, he had a short boost, then came right back down and has just been hanging out at the same number for almost an hour.

I have to go to the office the next two days. Should I put out a little MC as a preventative measure? Set the autofeeder (which is out for delivery) in any particular way? @Wendy&Neko

Thanks everyone, I'm glad we're okay too. The building manager was just here looking everything over and arranging to get the rest of the ice dams dealt with.

Gen is, naturally, unbothered by the fact that the anxiety alarm keeps going off over and over because it can't get used to numbers in the 50s:

And ... we had a lime. I gave him more MC (and a bunch of freeze-dried tuna) to bump him up a tiny bit. I hope he'll stay above 50 on his own now, but we'll see.

I think we're having a reduction.

Right around the time the Libre shut down, there was more loud crashing as the building management company knocked more huge sheets of ice off the gutters/drainpipes which fell two stories to smash on the concrete courtyard floor. This after hours of Libre alarms going off roughly every 15 minutes or less has not been gentle on my nervous system, and Gen is not a happy camper either.

I called my vet's office and hopefully they will be able to call a script in to the closest pharmacy. The weather is nasty (it's raining onto all that snow and supposed to shift to snow later) so I don't think it's safe to take my bike and I will probably need to walk, which will probably take a good hour between travel time and time at the pharmacy.

I'm trying to decide whether putting myself and Gen through an attempt at a blood test on top of Libre installation later is a good idea, or not. 😬

I'm calling out of work tomorrow, I think. What a day.

That sounds horrendous on both of your nervous systems. Hang in there. When the alarm first goes off, I tend to silence it for an hour since I am already keeping a close eye on Indy. That way it is not going off all the time. It isn't like you are going to forget that he is under 55. Do you also have it that only the under 55 alarm is on?

Edit: Another thing my vet tells me. When the numbers are on the low side, look at his clinical signs. If he is acting normal, then less stress for us. That way you don't feel pressured to do a blood test on top of everything else.

So, I hadn't managed to update the app to the version that allowed for silencing. You have to do it between sensors, and the last few times he's had a sensor end there's already been a bigger gap than I wanted/I didn't manage to do the app update because I was too concerned about getting him set back up with readings. 😅 I have just updated the app, so in future I will be able to silence it!

(I have "his" phone set up with only the under-55 alarm. I usually have the optional alarm turned on on my own phone, so that I have some advance notice if I'm away from home and he starts dropping. I usually set it to 65 or 60.)

Thanks - I have decided that we're not going to do the blood test, for now at least. He seems normal, apart from being a little bothered by the continuing drilling noises and banging around outside (I think the facilities guy is now trying to fix the drainpipe that he was knocking the ice off, as it came partly detached from the wall). We're well past his normal nadir time and it seems unlikely that he's going to go back into lime territory, although I still am not wild about leaving him for an hour without the ability to monitor him while I'm gone. I need to chill out a little. 😮‍💨

I am going to cry. I got two Libres from the pharmacy. The first one was a dud - even with the tweezers, I couldn't get it off the applicator. The second one he somehow managed to remove at some point in the last fifteen minutes, before I could get a single reading from it.

I guess we make our first attempt at home blood testing since 2021. And his shot is going to be delayed while I do it.

I'm so tired and so stressed and I spent close to $180 for those two lost sensors today.

... I did it. Not only that, but Gen was good about it. Better than he's been about so many things, even. Ha!

Well, that's ... I guess this is something I can do now, though I still want to use Libres as much as possible, especially since I have to be away from him so much. But I guess we can do this tonight and in the morning, until I'm able to get my hands on another sensor. I intend to call out of work, so that will help.

He's gone quite high. :/ I hate not knowing what the cycle looked like in between.

What a rough day! 🤗 That's awesome news that he seems to be tolerating manual testing though, as well as seeing greens (although I know going that low can be super stressful).

I hope you can take some time to relax tonight!

Ask fora replacement for the "dud"!

I am so sorry for the day you had!!

Sending lots of good wishes for a much better day today Allie and Gen! :bighug: :bighug: :bighug: :bighug: :bighug: :bighug:
