Morning Barb. Shnookie's on methimazole for hyperthyroid. He never showed any symptoms, tho, so I can't help with that. Our vet retested in 3 weeks, and he was back into normal range by then, if that helps at all. Nice to see Checkers coming down!

Hoping that the meds helps his hyperthyroid issue. He's doing a very nice, easy surf to the healing range. WTG, Checkers!!! Have a great day, guys!

Hi Barb :smile:

HyperT does a great job of mimicking FD, pu/pd very common. My experience is that the Tapazole does
start to work within a week. Maybe the wait to test is for it to have its full effect, but it relieves symptoms sooner?

Hi guys .. boy, these numbers sure look nice! Glad to know that he got his little mouth problem taken care of and his meds sound like they are already working too .. he probably feels like a million bucks :-D have a great day guys!

Hi Barb :-D :-D

No clue on the meds, but I think you should see some results in a week or so. My DD's cat has that, they retested in three weeks, made some dose adjustments, retested again in three weeks, until the levels were as they should be. Kitty is now doing good, gets her pill, levels are good too. Sounds like Checks is well on his way. well done Checkers!

Nice numbers today too. Keep on surfin' well checkers.

Hi Barb, adding my good wishes for the meds to kick in and help Checkers. He's looking really good today. I was wondering when did you first notice Checkers had symptoms of HyperT? Checkers is a very lucky kitty to have you as Bean.

Nice blue surf for Checkers. :-D It's been over a year since Callie was diagnosed with Hyper-T, but it seems like the Meth. started working quickly when she started on it. She had to have bloodwork a couple of times to adjust the dose, but has been doing fine ever since. I'm glad Checkers is doing better and the Meth. seems to be working.

Ann, about a month ago, I noticed a scary change in Checkers.

Weight loss is the worst, but it's been coming on slowly for a couple of years.

More recently,
Eccessive thirst.
He has been crabby, and loud, and demanding sounding. His voice at the sink, in the morning, was so obnoxious, it just made me angry!

His coat is dull and flaky

His back legs seem weaker than normal

All symptoms can also be diabetes. He had been checked for hyperT, twice.


In the 5 days that he's been on Tapazole, he has been my sweet voiced boy again, talking nicely to me.
He is his pleasant self again. :smile:
He's drinking normally, not at the sink all day long. Yay. :smile:

It's great that Check's is responding so quickly to the Tap! Mario was pretty non-symptomatic, so I can't say how long it took for the Tap to kick in. If I remember correctly, we did his first recheck a month later, and I did have to take him back fairly periodically (every 2-3 months) to make sure he was staying in range.

Hi Barb, just read your post. Thanks for explaining his symptoms. I was curious as some other kitties here also have hyperT. I remember your saying a few times how loud Checkers was at the sink. Yes, a lot of those symptoms do sound like diabetes, but you trusted your gut instinct that something more was going on with Checkers. That's great that the Tapazole is kicking in and your notice your sweet boy is back. Sending healing vines for your sweet boy. Yay for drinking normally and no sink drinking. :-D

Hi Barb,
As I understand Hyper-T it speeds up everything in the body: that's the reason for the weight loss, the "hyper" behavior, etc. I'm so glad that Checkers is getting back to his normal, sweet self.
