..i realize now after going back over the threads that i might've messed up giving his Cerenia and the
Mirataz, esp when the Cerenia administration got messed up.. @Staci & Ivy 😓❤️‍🩹 but its becuz he needs his Lantus too and time was getting short.. so he got it around 15 min instead after the Cerenia.. but theres a delay too w the Mirataz? idk..

theres been so much good info given to me but i realize that w the amount of info that i dont remember some of it or recall it.. so ive been going back over them..

tried the Ondansetron today.. 😍 cause hes like on and off his food.. 🥺 maybe cuz of how badly the meds went today.. got the 4 mg and the vets prescribed 2 mg 2x/day.. but hear on here that he should be getting 4 mg 2-3x/day..based off weight; apparently is same weight, still 13.1 lbs.. plz lmk if can.. 🫶🏼

i feel bad this could have helped more him all this time.. but i was incorporating and overwhelmed w so many things. rsp the fluids and his echo.. the binder.. potassium.. ugh.. im so glad its helped so many and i look forward to it doing so here too.. 💊.. the Cerenia has been ok i think, but read back here that Ondansetron is even better for nausea.. the vets did warn it could worsen constipation.. but oh well?

on that note. he just had a great potty!! went very well…. the fluids really are it.. know thats helping. hes sometimes restless and awake.. but assume its not feeling well and maybe some of the medicine? acting ok tho..

i just hope we get help w an antibiotic. he really needs it……….. 😓🫶🏼

I’ve also read that Ondansetron can be given 3x a day as it only lasts up to 8 hours. And he’s, 4 mg is pretty standard (per weight).

Cerenia works on different receptors so it can also be given with Ondansetron. Also helps with inflammation, per many vets.

Mirataz is dose to effect. So you’ll have to see what dose works for Pudge.
(Some find less than the dose suggested on the box works for their cat).

Many find a combination of all 3 meds work well when their cats have issues eating.
(Don’t forget to clean the opposite ear before you apply the next dose, so you’re always applying the med to a clean ear.
You can use a warm water cotton ball/round to clean the ear).
**And wear protective glove or finger cot, so you don’t absorb the meds into your skin).

Glad he went potty, now eat please Pudge

Can you confirm dosing info on these meds, I know you have lots of experience here 🥰

crap.. so 2 mg isnt enough?.. theres a lag in his nausea coverage.. but hopefully will be ok. to be fair, he did eat for me when prior to giving Zofran.. so maybe Cerenia is ok even tho it got messed up when giving it to him.. woof. sigh.

Wendy @Wendy&Neko 🫶💘 also said he could get 3-6 mg think.. i read that.. 3x/day if i recall the thread right.. and @tiffmaxee 🫶🏼💘 said how much it helped.. im sorry didnt start it sooner. we been doing ok tho seemed.. idk.

i remember u telling me!! 🫶🏼 have been alternating ears.. and only when i notice hes gone off food does he get more.. which is complicated, but oh well.. (meaning idk when thats gonna be.. just hope for the best.. numbers are ok.. 🤧)

I’ve read this before:

Ondansetron is dosed per kg.(2 lbs) of cat’s weight.

Ondansetron dosing is 0.5-1.0 mg/kg of cat, up to 3/4 times a day.
It doesn't last that long in a cat.
You don't want to underdose.

Cerenia is dosed once a day at 1 mg per pound. It’s best to work up to full dosage as it can make some cats sleepy. Vets often under-dose cerenia.

(please correct me if I’ve got this wrong)

I can't give dosing insight, as I am following vet's instructions for that with both anti-nausea meds (and it seems to be working for Gen). I will say that I give Gen all his oral meds together with no issues (he gets ondansetron 2x per day, and cerenia 1x; I administer his pills in capsules from Capsuline, and his evening capsule has the ondansetron, cerenia and gabapentin all stuffed into it together).

For mirataz, I found that it took a considerable period of time to kick in the first time I gave it, but that when he gets it regularly (I try to do it around the same time each day), it stays effective. Gen wound up only needing about half the dose listed on the box, which I discovered through trial and error. I have found that he definitely needs it every day, at least right now ... skipping a day had a noticeable effect on his appetite.

It's a lot to juggle! Hang in there; you're doing so much. ❤️ I'm glad the fluids are helping.

::UPDATE::

Ordering capsules.. even a little tool to stick the powders in..

Also.. this is the current medication/supplement list.. plz lmk if can informing how looks/any thoughts:

- Lantus ✨
- Cerenia 24 mg (1/2 tablet daily, so 12 mg)
- Mirataz transdermal, as needed
- Miralax, 1/4 2x/day.. but im seeing 1/4 rn is all right.
- ALOH or Niacinimide.. need to settle. For time being, will try to put ALOH in capsules.. 1/4 tsp minimum/day.
- Milk Thistle, 5 drops
- Proviable probiotic, 1 capsule
- Renal K+ Potassium powder, 2 scoops/day..

and now more..

- if want to use, Ondansetron, 4 mg, 1/2 tablet (so 2 mg, up to 2x/day ~ every 12-24 hrs.. although they say this is used instead of Cerenia.. ill be using both if do. i have also been advised 🫶🏼 tho he should really get the whole 4 mg, 3-4 times/day as needed/wanted based off his weight..)
- Famotidine, .5 mL, thru line or sub q, 1x/ day
- B12 injectable, .4 mL 2x/week
(i was told to get 1 cc syringes.. is there a way to dose this w the u100s 3/10 mL?…. heard there is @tiffmaxee 💘 im not sure how to translate dose tho..)

Trying to get..
- Jarrow complex and then B complex with B 9 too i think.. looking into (?).. any brands suggested appreciated..

gonna buy this too.. (?) Amazon.com: ScopeAround Ear Spoon with Ear Camera Otoscope Accessories, Compatible with Digital Otoscope, Includes 9 Speculums, 4 Ear Picks, and 1 Pack of Q-Tips, Lens Diameter: 3.9mm : Health & Household

All labs should also be up and viewable.. 🫶🏼💌

Numbers doing ok.. glad hes eating better today. my homemade pockets worked well w the Cerenia and Ondansetron.. just a bad day yesterday i guess.. i also just focused solely on that when administering. 💘💘

honestly …. He needs his antibiotic…… ugh.

Do you have a good amount of Ondansetron? They definitely can both be used (not only one or the other). Many people here like using both.
Perhaps you could ask for a script for more for daily use if you need more (before it's a crisis). It's a generic med you can get at any pharmacy and it
is inexpensive (always check Good RX for pricing)

Do you have some ondansetron? Maybe you could get more and tell them you know others who use both, one for nausea and one for vomiting. Both together seem to help.
My vet let me have both with no problems.
It's worth asking. 🥰
