Question: What the computation for an ideal weight for cats? Gobby looks just about right to me at 12 pounds (12.4 today). His bone structure is a little bigger than average. His pre-diabetic weight was about 13.4 to 13.12, and he was overweight-looking. His weight has gone up and down in the past few weeks, from 12. 4 on 2/4/13,to 13 on 2/8/13, to 12.8 on 2/12/13, and back to 12.4 today. I realize that weight can vary from day to day.....the same in a cat than as in a human....

Today is Gobbles' 3-month dx milestone...

Good Morning, Gobbles was "bright-eyed and bushy-tailed" this morning. He greeted me when the alarm went off with a gazillion kisses and TP from the roll. In a good mood. He ate 1/2 can FF LC. Two large pee clumps in LB. Preened and being sociable; extremely cute snuggling his valentine's day mouse.

Re: 2/17 Gobbles AMPS 360 ? ideal weight

Morning Kat ~O)

Our vet has a similar chart to this one on the examination room wall... there are bigger charts out there, board has image size limits Google

Our gang's scores..
Simon 3-4
Justice 2-3
Logan 3
Chloe 4  She eats the same as all of them, lc wet, but she "chubbed up" shortly after she adopted us

Re: 2/17 Gobbles AMPS 360 ? ideal weight

And a good morning to you! Thanks for the chart and info Bruce. I looked at it, as well as several others, from Google images. He is definitely "ideal" and a #3 on your chart. BTW, take a look at his SS--looks like these last few days he's got relatively nice daytime numbers, then decides to go into the 300's at night....comment?

Re: 2/17 Gobbles AMPS 360 ? ideal weight

Any SS interpretation by me should be taken with a generous grain of salt... but it looks to
me as if he's still bouncing off those mid-AM cycle greens&blues?

Re: 2/17 Gobbles AMPS 360 ? ideal weight

Morning Kat,
i got sidetracked looking at all the information from Bruce! Wow, cool. I'm sure you'll get a lot of input on Gobbles' weight. You might ask for input from your vet on Gobbles weight. If he looks good to you, i bet it's about right. I hope Gobbles brings himself down a little for you today. How nice to wake up to a gazillion kisses!!!
take good care - mary and ollie

Re: 2/17 Gobbles AMPS 360 ? ideal weight

Morning Kat,

Hope Gobbles clears that bounce quickly. Have a great day,
Kathie

Re: 2/17 Gobbles AMPS 360 ? ideal weight

Yes,my interp is that he is bouncing...!!! And there's a good chance he'll clear it later. I will mention re: ideal weight to the vet next week.

Re: 2/17 Gobbles AMPS 360 ? ideal weight

Good morning.

I looked at his spreadsheet too, and this would be his sixth cycle since those greens on Thursday. Hopefully, he'll come down to some blues and greens today or tonight. As far as the difference in night and day numbers, I don't think I'm the best to judge because I personally have the same questions about J.D.'s ss. J.D. seems to go in 24 hour cycles sometimes. Maybe Gobbles is less active at night. Exercise can lower BGs. Or maybe he's fed differently during the PM cycle?

Re: 2/17 Gobbles AMPS 360 ? ideal weight

Oh, I wanted to say something about the weight chart, too. If you look at J.D. from the top or the side, he looks like a 4 at least, but you can feel his back bone and his hip area is very slim. I wish they had a weight chart for older pets.

Hi Dyana! I have looked his SS over several times to see if perhaps a dose increase is in order. My interp is that he should be increased, by .25, if he is showing a blue nadir OR increase by .50, if he is showing a yellow/pink nadir; do you concur? In either event, the increase should be initiated either tonight or tomorrow morning....I am a little confused on which nadir to base his dose on, as in the past 6 cycles his nadirs have ranged from 79 to 410... Oh, and he isn't fed any differently during the PM cycle. In fact, it seems his appetite has somewhat diminished these past few days (refer to his SS notes for more info)...

Re: 2/17 Gobbles AMPS 360 ? ideal weight

I would see what he does today (and keep your computer open and visible to him, so he can read the dosethreat  ) and increase by 0.25 tonight, if needed.

Come on down, nice and easy, Gobbles.

Re: 2/17 Gobbles AMPS 360 ? ideal weight

Thanks. Believe it or not, he does look at the computer screen sometimes. We watch cat videos together--no really! If you go to youtube, type in "cat meowing" or "kitty meows" or anything like that, it will bring up some cute videos. I expand the screen and play the videos--he really enjoys that especially if he's "nipped up". He's actually pawed the screen and gone around to the other side of the laptop, looking for the cat! Oh, the cruelty!!!

Re: 2/17 Gobbles AMPS 360 ? ideal weight

I agree with Dyana. If you don't see any change in Gobbles numbers this cycle, I'd increase tonight.

Re: 2/17 Gobbles AMPS 360 ? ideal weight

Thanks ladies....I appreciate your help and will increase this PM....will wait and see if he decides to mow the lawn at nadir--if he does, should I still increase???

Re: 2/17 Gobbles AMPS 360 +5.5 198**

**His AM +5.5 reading was taken 1/2 hour after he ate. I will take a +7 test and see where he's at then...as it will be 2 hours after he ate!

Dyana & Sienne: He was AM +7 179 (food was put up, at AM +5 & he tested 198 at AM +5.5). I guess the SS didn't scare the little boy. So then 2.00 U tonight???

Re: 2/17 Gobbles AMPS 360 +5.5 +7 179

Yes, I would go with the 2 units tonight. But, who knows, maybe he'll keep coming down until PMPS ;-) He's a cat..

k...maybe he'll come down...just have to wait and see...if not, 2.0 U

Re: 2/17 Gobbles AMPS 360 +5.5 +7 179 +12 172 ? INCREASE ?

I didn't increase because his numbers have progressively sloped from AMPS to PMPS; gave him his usual dose 15 minutes late. I had posted for help but there was no reply in time & it was getting too far past his shot time. I had really wanted to increase him, as advised, but was sketchy on it due to his sloping numbers. Just wondering if I did the right thing? I can always increase tomorrow if necessary...

Barring any surprises, increasing tomorrow should be fine.

That's exactly what he did & is why I didn't increase him...I really wanted to, but the sloping numbers made me change my mind...(his AM + 12 was lowest in the cycle)

Hi Kat, You got one thing right...Gobbles is a cat! He must have heard you talking about a dosecrease and chose to psych you out! ;-) Loved hearing about all the cuddles and kisses this morning and glad to hear he is sociable and lovin' this valentine mouse. What a great feeling...seeing our kitties feeling good. Hope you guys have a fantastic evening. Sweet dreams!

Heck yes, he's the one in charge here!!!! The last time there was a planned dose increase, he did the same thing....Yes, so wonderful to see him like he was before dx. I love him so much (and the civvies, too though he's always been the alpha & I shamefully admit, the favorite). He actually went into "belly rub position" this afternoon--I have not see that for many, many months....
