Re: 2/16 Oliver AMPS 445

Good luck with this dosecrease, guys. Someone once told me that in order to bring the #s down, you need to go up in doses. That really is true.

FWIW, I remember a time before Blackie and I joined this board that when she was on ProZinc, she was on 8u BID (my former vet and I butted heads about that). I also remember a time when Blackie was finally on Lantus, she went up to 5.25u before she started showing me better and better #s, and we began the descent. However, we did go back up again briefly, though. Just the way it is.

Now, I'm not saying that Oliver may require 5.25u as the max... He may require more, or he may only go up to 4.25u. At this point, he's telling you what he needs. You'll know when he needs less by telling you with his #s. All I'm saying is be prepared if he requires a lot in order to help him bring those #s down. Every cat is different with regards to their own specific needs. Right now, even though things look bleak, and discouraging, it will get better in time. I know it's extremely frustrating, especially when you see other kitties' #s looking better and better each day, and Oliver's are still high. I remember those days all too well. We've all been there. We've all been discouraged. You DO have the knowledge and support from this board to help you at any given time.

Hang in there, ok? It WILL get better. :YMHUG:

Thanks so much Angela. and Blackie :) We are hanging in there and I am seeing this to be true. Making more sense daily.
Hugs

Re: 2/16 Oliver AMPS 445

Everything is trial and error, and you will learn what helps bring down the #s, and what doesn't. What spikes his #s, and what doesn't. It just takes time, and how much time is dependent upon each kitty as every kitty is different. You're doing an wonderful job. Keep up the excellent work! :-D

Re: 2/16 Oliver AMPS 445

angela's absolutely right - we try to stay focused on just giving the kitty the amount of insulin he needs. having had a high dose kitty, i know how hard that is to do. every unit up seems like a step backwards - but it isn't. when you hit the "right" dose, for many cats, things just kind of snap into place and the progress begins.

Oliver will get there!

Re: 2/16 Oliver AMPS 445

Hi there

Good luck with the dosecrease.
Before BK was diagnosed as having a high dose condition, I hated that he was the kitty with the highest dose in LL at the time.
He needed what he needed and once I knew why it made it easier. However his vet was getting freaked out over the high doses and was at the point where she was not going to renew his Lantus prescription. Luckily that's when things turned around for BK :-D

Hang in there!

Re: 2/16 Oliver AMPS 445

I am hanging guys and again Thanks for the support and encouragement! I love this site and how confident I feel after keeping in touch and being involved in it. :)
You all are true Gems.
Oliver is very appreciative also.

Good luck with the dosecrease :-D I know how you feel about going up on dose...this time around it took us to 5.5u before we broke through! Every kitty is different. I see some yellow poking through today :-D Again tonight, Oliver? Have a nice evening, Kelly, you're doing great :-D
