2/16 Monty: BG 73, ear infection

Hey there. The vet found an ear infection when I took Monty in for his annual vaccine booster. Wanted some advice about him scratching his fur off.

He's been given antibiotics and a fluid to break down wax. We've been advised to treat his ear with the wax fluid once every two days in addition to twice daily antibiotics for 2 weeks.

Since we started using the fluids in his ear he's been scratching at it and has taken most of the fur off behind his ear. We reduced the frequency of his ear cleaning and have washed around his ear with warm water on a cloth (which he LOVED) just now but does anyone have any advice for his comfort over the next 12 days of course of antibiotics?

Poor Monty. I’m sure it is very irritating.
Are the antibiotics causing any tummy issues?
When I put ear drops into my cats ears I always rub the area to distribute it. The cats always love it. But I’m not sure if you should be doing that or not….maybe ask the vet if that’s ok. It might stop the irritation.

Hi Tom, I don't have any experience with a ear infection. Some ear drops contain steroids and can affect BG.

When giving antibiotics, I find that probiotics help with any tummy issues. I like S. Boulardii.

Hope Monty gets well soon.
