Doodles 2/15 Doodles had a good run and then the expected bounce came. He gets a bit of a pokie break and we wait to see if he'll decide to come back down or not. Glad he rested quite a bit yesterday especially later afternoon and overnight.

I've been putting 1 or 2 Stella & Chewy nuggets on his food lately. In fact the little stink will give me the "look" if I don't put it on there. He tolerates it well which is good but wondering if there is a lower P freeze dried raw option out there. Maybe I'll look at Primal and Natures Variety has a new one but they are likely the same. He will vomit any of the regular freeze dried treats out there...we've tried them all. The boy drinks a ton of water regardless of where his numbers are. It is what it is but I'm dreading the next round of BW.

Surf safely kitties, eat your fuds and hope all are feeling good today.

I hope the Doodles comes back down for you today!
When Boomer decides he doesn't like his food, he goes to his box which is about 2 feet away from his auto feeder and just sits there. He will sit there until I notice that he isn't eating, which is usually pretty quickly (helicopter mom). Eventually he will come over to me and cry pitifully if I don't notice:rolleyes:

Another note about Vital Essentials - they package the same treats in different size bags for cats and dogs. If it works out, it's more economical to order them as dog treats.

Sorry about the bounce and hope he will slide down for you but, the pokey breaks are always nice. :cat: Good luck with the low P snack.

Does all the water help or hurt the kidneys? I have wondered about that as I add lots of water to his food and he pees a lot! Big pees.

KCC naturals(kccnaturals.com) is what I have been using as test treats. Plain freeze dried chicken, nothing else. No idea about P content, but might be worth looking into. You'd think he's seen enough green not to get all panicky about it, but it is Doodles after all. At least you and the boy get a little break, at least until he pulls the next Doodle move.

I would think he would be peeing more with the diuretic as it is trying to flush out the water he is drinking. At least he is drinking a lot which is good for the kidneys.

I've often wondered because everyone assumes he's peeing buckets...maybe he should be? Since he's been on Lasix, and a very high dose, his pee output varies but most of the time it's really not that much or often. They can become quickly dehydrated on these drugs. I'm not sure the diuretic flushes the water his drinking but rather any fluid build up in his chest/ around the heart which is caused by his heart not pumping correctly (HCM/ enlarged heart) not by the water he drinks. Peeing would however flush out any salt he has so there is no fluid retention yet on his BW the sodium levels are low...almost too low

I give up honestly and we're just going with the flow at this point.o_O

I don't know how much phosphorus is allowed for cats with kidney disease, but I found these values when checking for carbs values for the Primal freeze dried food. The numbers were posted by @Marje and Gracie

Ok..got them. Primal does not make duck for cats. So if you are seeing duck, it’s the canine version. I’m going to give you the numbers for all that I have just in case you decide to feed one of their other flavors. The numbers below are the % calories from carbs based on the as-feds I got directly from the company and converted and I’ve also included the mg Phosphorus/100 kg. These numbers are for frozen or freeze dried.

Beef and Salmon: 6% 219P

Chicken and Salmon: 6% 323P

Pheasant: 2% 201P

Pork: 3% 246P

Rabbit: 5% 557P

Turkey: 1% 203P

Venison: 6.5% 302P

Honest Kitchen Grace (turkey): 10% 225P

Honest Kitchen Prowl (chicken): 20% 175P

These numbers are for frozen or freeze dried.
Thanks :) Anything with bone in it will be a bit high in P. I'm actually crazy for even thinking about messing with Doodles food and DH will probably kill me unless it's snuck in the house. We've been through hell and back with his food...Doodles won the battle because it's not food if he won't eat it .

Hey Karen,
Helen at Tanya's CKD just did a vigorous study of foods and the data is recent. You can find it here: http://www.felinecrf.org/canned_food_usa.htm
You have to scroll pretty far down to find the raw/freeze dried stuff but she give Phos, Carbs, Sodium, Fat, Protein, Cals and the date the data was obtained. Might help.
I posted about this yesterday and Jill added it to the New to the Group sticky.

Have you ever tried Whole Life freeze dried chicken? I assume it's low in P; I've never run the numbers but it's just freeze dried chicken breast.

Unfortunately I think Primal is about the same phosphorus. Feline Natural is maybe a tad lower but they changed the formula and Max didn't love the new version. It's the bone they add that raises the phosphorus. If you just crumble on or two I wouldn't worry. Nice run of greens yesterday.

Gizmo gets 6-7 FD nuggets on the last turn of the auto feeder every cycle. Sometimes he eats them all sometimes none, sometimes just a couple. His phosphorus is down 0.5 from 12/20. I have fully transitioned from FF to low carb/low phosphorus diet (but with the FD treats) so they can't have that much Phos in them.
