I gave him 1/2 tsp of 14% at +1. I wasnt sure if he was still going up or would drop again. Looks like he would drop again... which seems to be common for him after a reduction. Im taking Missy to the vet at +3- +4.5 so I will probably give him some HC when I leave.

Yes... looking great.
I could not get him to eat before I left for the vet... He heard me touch the carrier to put Missy in and he shut right down. Hid and wouldnt eat. So I ended up squirting syrup into his mouth. Then I left some high carb wet out and Dr E dry with 14% wet mixed in to open at +4. He didnt eat anything while I was gone... so Im glad I out syrup in his mouth. When I got home he was 94.

I have a vet appointment for Rufus next thursday to have dentistry done. He has never been to my vet... but they are willing to do everything in one appointment because of his stress in the carrier and traveling. Apparently he will throw up, have diarrhea, drool, pant and cry. When he was brought to my home the lady that drove him though he was going to pass out or die.
My vet is good... but not very knowledgeable about diabetes. Because I am involved with rescue I have a very good long term relationship with the office they would have no problem with me being there while they do the cleaning and surgery if needed. So I can personally check his BG during surgery if I think its necessary. I spoke with him about how i should dose Rufus the day of his surgery but he is not familiar with Lantus.. or Rufus so I would love more opinions.
Because of the way his numbers have been Im thinking I should do no insulin the morning of... and maybe no dose or a half dose the night before.
He will also be getting ACEPROMAZINE a few hours before we leave in hopes that it will calm him for the car ride.

My vet said no food after midnight and no insulin the morning of the dental. Others here give a half dose.

OK... thats what my vet and I sort of came to as well. The only thing that I was concerned is how Rufus's depot seems to affect him longer then Im use to with Missy... so I was thinking of giving only half his dose the night before as well.

You know him best. There’s nothing wrong with doing that. Max had one tooth extracted and I had to skip the night of the dental because he would not eat so be prepared for that as well. I did not want to have to keep bothering him if he felt crappy.

OK. Yeah I guess I can see that happening with Rufus. Just the stress might upset him enough to not eat. He hasnt eaten or moved in 3.5 hours since I touched the carrier to put Missy in for her appointment. Even though the carrier is downstairs he just runs back to my room if i try to bring him out.
I think it will be a rough day for him emotionally.:(

Hopefully the stress will be worth it in the end as he is already tightly regulated and you know what might come next. Big anti jinx!

PM - Gave some HC because its so early in his cycle. Then I will probably end up having to give him a few bites of MC every half hour for the next couple an hours.

Yup. Still the higher depot, so you might just have to carb him up to keep him over 50.
