Hello to the amazing team!!!:bighug::bighug::bighug:

It's been a loong time I haven't posted here, I don't even know if you remember me..:joyful:
Chnoudi was doing great on its tiny dose of insulin, she is healthy and even though we lost her civvie cat on August she seems to be happy.

On January 4th I left our home for a month due to a heart surgery that I had to do abroad. So, Chnoudi stayed with my husband. I have to mention it because she is really attached to me.

This month she started having skin problems below the ears, itching, sores and redness. She also started licking herself a lot. Also I have to mention that my husband fed her exclusively with the one of the two wet foods she eats, because the other was out of stock.

I returned on Friday and we took her to the vet. We also changed the food. The vet mentioned a possible food allergy, treated her for fleas, and prescribed two cortisone cremes (one for the eyes and one for the ears) and antibiotics.

She told me that it won't affect her sugar because cremes have small absorption, but I have already seen an increase in her bg....
In the ears and eyes that I put ointment on, there is an improvement, but she continues to scratch her body...

I would like your opinion and advice.... Do you think that It could be due to stress because I was away? And if its a food allergy what's going on?
Maybe Should I ignore the doctor and start giving her some antihistamine pill?

I'm so sorry for the big message... Thank you in advance!!!! :cat::cat::cat::cat:

I remember you. I am glad you both are doing ok. I bet the ointment contains a steroid. I’ve had luck with Zyrtec regular strength,1/2 a 10 mg pill once a day. It’s Cetirizine HCI. This could very well be a food allergy. Can you try a novel protein, one she has never eaten? You would need to feed only that protein for several weeks. Is the ointment helping? Can you post the ingredients? :bighug:

It could be stress from you being away.

Food allergies can take time to sort out. What brand of food were you feeding before and in what protein? What are you feeding now? You can try a novel protein food for a couple of weeks to see if that helps. Rabbit is usually a good choice. Fillers in food can also cause allergies. Leroy has a list of stuff he can't eat because they cause bald spots  A bland-ish novel protein food with few fillers seems to work for many cats with possible food allergies.

Hello Elise!! Thank you so much for the reply!! Yes, I'll try Zyrtec from tommorow, I have it! The redness between ears and eyes is better, but she continues to itch all over her body.

Yes...They are steroid ointments. :confused:The first contains fusidic acid and betamethasone 1mg and the second one -which is for the eyes- contains dexamethasone..
The antibiotic is Kesium 50mg. I don't know how it helps but ok.

Ohh, I didn't know about novel protein! The only problem is that it's hard to find a variety of low carb foods in Greece... I can order from zooplus, of course, but I think that it will take a while.

Thank you so much!!! :bighug:Yees, I 've read it again that food allergies take time... :nailbiting:
I used to feed a combo of Bozita (chicken, salmon) and a greek lc food called Wellfed (chicken&turkey, turkey&duck)
The month I was away, my husband fed only Bozita and now we are stuck on Wellfed exclusively!
The only change I can imagine is that he gave her also Bozita -shrimps, a flavour that I didn't buy usually.
