Good morning. Quiet night since this dose is to low but good while we regulate tummy/eating issues.
We skipped the cerenia last night to see how it goes with the tummy and grogginess. He was more himself this morning demanding breakfast as soon as I got up. Verbally telling me to hurry up, even a little love nip on the arm. And hid under the chair waiting for his meds. All the normal actions.
The tummy however, not sure. He ate pretty good and drank lots of water but then crouched with that worried look on his face. We did give him his dose of Zofran so will see how he does. Working to get that balance of normal behavior and alertness with a tummy that feels good……

Hope everyone has a great day with lots of love and sunshine!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Hi Deb, I’m so glad to hear that Tiger sounds like he’s feeling much better and eating better for you. Sounds like his behavior is more like his normal self, which is awesome.
Wishing you all a Happy Valentine’s Day :bighug::kiss:

Ty Staci. Yes, I am so glad he’s more himself. He was getting a little zombie like and cared less about eating. Today he has eaten 3 times (small portions) and has been alert, other than the cat nap in the window and after lunch nap at my side!

Now I have to decide what/ which meds to give him for maintenance….
Wishing you and Ivy a happy sweet Valentine’s Day!

Hi Deb, so you slipped the Cerenia today and we have a better appetite? One of the side effects of Cerenia is drowsiness. I cut those pills in half when I dosed my Tiger, she weighed 9 pounds. I should have asked you that before, I am sorry. I have heard it explained it is like me taking Dramamine for car sickness, which for me means I am knocked out for 8 hours if I took one whole pill! Wondering if Tiger is like me, reactive toward meds? Good to hear his appetite is good though, you may want to note on your SS how much Zofran he gets then, it gives us something to consider. My SS was like a diary of meds/ reactions, etc. Happy Valentines Day to you, hope you have a restful evening and are sitting with Tiger rubbing his tummy!!!:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

One of the strange side effects of Cerenia is lack of appetite, even tho it does help with nausea. In the Pancreatitis group, we recommend giving an appetite stimulant with cerenia if this happens.

Hi Ruth, Happy Valentine’s Day! How did you know exactly what I was doing? Lol
Yes he takes 1/2 cerenia and 1/2 Zofran….His appetite has been good today and he even has been a little feisty too!

Hope your evening is great!

That’s so contradictory if I’m giving it because he’s not eating! Since skipping the cerenia last night, his appetite has been much better today, even asking for dinner early!

I’m sorry if I asked you this before but, is Zofran safe to use on a daily basis? One of our vets said she stays away from it, I forgot her reason…we were giving a half of cerenia every other night as maintenance before this flared up. Maybe we should use Zofran instead?

Thanks for any input you can give me! I do appreciate it.

Absolutely!! Almost all the caregivers of cats on the small cell lymphoma list I'm on use it multiple times per day when needed, which might be a few months until they reach remission. Neko was on it for months, though as it turned out too low a dose. I think a lot of kidney cats are on it too. The only down side to ondansetron is that it can be constipating, which is a problem if kitty already leans that way.

I know it sounds crazy, but Cerenia has many benefits. Although its mainly for vomiting, it also helps with mild nausea, pain and inflammation. it works very well with Zofran so giving them together is helpful. And yes you can give the zofran every day. Cerenia given with Zofran may be enough to get the appetite going, but if it isnt, Mirataz transdermal ear gel can be given every day if needed for an appetite stimulant. Mirtazapine (Mirataz) can also help some with nausea but shouldnt be given on its own unless the nausea is really mild.
