Good Morning Lantus Land,

Well looks like the increase is holding....course we're working in drops here...so maybe I measured wrong too. Ugh....so tough.

Yesterday's condo: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/view ... =9&t=36665

Recap:
02/13/11
219 1.5f
221 +3
214 +6
232 1.5f

They just reported the Medina SPCA raided a home yesterday with 119 dogs...in the home. Found 4 dead dogs. OMG...can you imagine 119 dogs in a home. Our shelter helped out when Animal Planet conducted that raid near Columbus, Ohio for the lady who was hoarding cats...I'm sure we'll be taking a few of these dogs too. Wow...

Attie is doing great and feeling fine. LOL... I fell asleep last night in the family room daybed. Kinda nice as it is far enough away from the foster room to not here the nightly meows of Gary at the moment. I woke to Atlas peering at me through the den shutters that overlook the family room. I can't quite tell if he is being territorial with Gary or not. Course that can all change with a bit of a nip-tuck on Gary.

I 'll be trying to get Gary in to a local vet today. He appears to declining and I want to avoid an ER trip. He is pooping which is diarrhea, but after cleaning the litter box he appears to have a UTI infection or may even be blocked. So...lots to do to fix this little guy up. My other choice is to call animal control and send him through the shelter. As shy as he is I think he'd end up as a resident at our "No time limit" shelter. Eh...no good deed goes unpunished....

Re: 2/14 Atlas 206

Libby asked yesterday:
It sounds like Gary is settling in much faster than I would have expected him to. What are you going to do with him once he's all fixed up? It sounds like he doesn't mind the indoor life, so far.

If he ends up FIV/FELV negative he has a home here. If he is positive I'll contact the shelter to either take him or he'll foster here until we find him a new home.

The other option would be to get my two vaccinated, but the vaccine doesn't guarantee you won't still get cross infection. We'd have to determine which of the 5 subtypes he has and the vaccine isn't good against all of them.

Re: 2/14 Atlas 206

I hope everything turns out to be fine with Gary.
Attie is looking good....hopefully that flat yellow means a good cycle of blue and green today.

Have a good day. :-D

Re: 2/14 Atlas 206

Good morning guys ... I hope the vet can fix gary up good .. nice sunny yellow to start the day for atlas .. hope you see some blue soon .. have a great day guys!

Re: 2/14 Atlas 206

It sounds like a vet appt. is in your feral's future! That yellow is almost blue. Come down from there Atlas! It would be a very nice Valentine's present for your bean if you were in the blues or greens.

Re: 2/14 Atlas 206

I hope all works out well for Gary and he finds a forever home either with you or some other loving home.

Atlas sounds like he's doing well, hope you see some blues and even greens this Valentine's Day

Re: 2/14 Atlas 206

That is such a low yellow it looks blue to me....Come on down a notch Attie!
Sending healing vines to Gary...good luck today with him....

Re: 2/14 Atlas 206

Sending good vetty vines for Gary and hoping all will go well.
I heard a rumor that Atlas is having a birthday in a few days and that he's celebrating it early at Shadow and Raja's place tonight. Rusty can't wait to head out to the party. He'll see Attie later.

p.s. OMG on the house with over 100 dogs. I can't even imagine it!

Re: 2/14 Atlas 206, +4 283(?)

Thanks guys for checking in on us...

Looks like I need a little more juice...Hmmmm.... I also hit the thickened ruff on Attie this morning so it could be a slow load too. Since Attie was a mature male he has that fat ruff on his shoulders.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well vetty visit and carrier attempt here in about 15 minutes. Wondering if a pillowcase or scruff'em....? :?

I think I'm more nervous doing this than I was the other day snagging him to get him out of the brutal cold....

Yeesh....

They just announced on the radio they are looking for money and volunteers for the dogs. They said it was the worst case they have ever seen. Trash so high in the house it was even with the countertops. You couldn't open the refrigerator due to trash piled so high in front of it.

Saturday the surviving dogs crowded into the Medina SPCA for some much-needed fresh food and water, a little leg room, baths and attention.

"In a situation like this, this is basically a disaster. Anytime you have a situation that overtaxes or overwhelms your facility it's considered a disaster," Moore said. The good thing is they are trained for a disaster. Dogs are everywhere, in every room, and the population keeps growing.

"We've had some puppies since last night. We have a brand new litter of five puppies. We also lost a mother who was in labor. She passed away in the middle of the night," Moore said.

But another dog who had her own litter Saturday morning adopted the two orphans.

Rescuers say the conditions inside the hoarder's home were deplorable. The dogs were packed into cages.

One was cemented to the ground by its own feces.

Re: 2/14 Atlas 206, +4 283, (Gary Vet Update)

I wish the best for Gary. I'm so glad you took him in. :YMHUG: You're an Angel. Happy Valentine's to you, and yours.

Re: 2/14 Atlas 206, +4 283, (Gary Vet Update)

aww poor Gary, he is so lucky to have crossed paths with you though.
Wishing him a speedy journey to health

Re: 2/14 Atlas 206, +4 283, +9 355 (Gary Vet Update)

Thanks so much for the well wishes for Gary...

Hopefully stuff will remain uncomplicated. Since neutering isn't for several weeks I removed all soft materials from the foster room. Including the bed!!! Mattress & box spring now line the hallway.

Attie is sleeping through all the commotion...

What the heck big guy....what's going on with your numbers?

Re: 2/14 Atlas 206, +4 283, (Gary Vet Update)

Glad to hear that Gary made it to vet today and thus far, his issues are easily treatable. Fingers and paws crossed for good news on the remaining test results! Such a handsome boy... no wonder Miss Mudcat is so smitten. :)

The hoarding thing seriously freaks me out. I watched the Hoarders show one weekend, but had to shut it off when the next episode involved kitties. I just couldn't handle it.

Perhaps Atlas is envious of all the attention Gary is getting and is showing you he still needs TLC through by throwing you some high numbers??

Hope you guys enjoy the rest of your day... Happy Valentine's!!!

Re: 2/14 Atlas 206, +4 283, (Gary Vet Update)

Thank God for shelters and people like you Beth.

I can't handle hoarding. The shows on tv make my stomach fly with anxiety. Thinking of living in that chaos is overwhelming that I can't handle even watching it. Those poor animals *cry*.

Gary is gorgeous. Every time I see a picture of him, I think - "WOW".

It is a horrible situation down in Medina. Our shelter is taking two van loads of supplies...bedding, food, medical...and bringing back some dogs for our shelter and foster care system. The email went out this afternoon for help.

I feel overwhelmed some days just trying to take care of my two err....three.

Gary is handsome. I sure hope he isn't FIV positive. I checked up on the pneumonia issue this evening and was kind of surprised by what I read. This is pretty serious.... more so than I thought.

I placed a baseboard silicon heater in his room and we're running the vaporizor/humidifier now. I guess certain kinds or worms can make them susceptible to complicating pneumonia. Gary has roundworms...so did Atlas. They are a pretty nasty bugger.

If the host is a cat, though, most larvae waste no time encysting and continue their migration straight to the lungs. The majority of the incoming larvae have reached the cat's lungs by the third day post-infection. Those larvae that do stay behind encysted do so in the cat's liver. Once they get to the lung, they develop into "third stage larvae" and burrow into the small airways ultimately travelling upward towards the host’s throat. A heavy infection can produce a serious pneumonia. http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body_ro ... ttens.html

wow on all counts. I am so sorry to hear about the situation with the dogs - just makes me so angry, upset, everything. I hope they can find homes for the dogs, and in the meantime will be able to care for them. How Incredibly sad. Those poor animals.

I wish you luck with gary, and hope he will respond to treatment. I am so glad that you snagged him , brought him in, got him to a vet. Mannie and I send many healing vines to him. He is beautiful. Paws crossed too that he is not FIV positive. I had a cat once that did have that, though it turned out he was just a carrier, and never did develop any outside signs of illness.

and Attie - dude! down with the numbers... and could you please bring Mannie with you? No more pink for you guys.
