Happy Valentines Day to all.
Ok, Mikey’s AMPS was 97( checked it twice) so I did not give him a shot. I will check his numbers in 2 hours , as I will be out for dinner. If he is higher should I then give a dose or wait till tomorrow
I wished I could have checked his numbers later to see when he dropped because my guess is he was lower than 94 at some period.

I’m confused. The subject line numbers don’t match the spreadsheet. And I don’t see an AMPS of 97 but a PMPS of 94. Which is it?
 
No worries, you were probably rushed.

OK, you can give a later shot in a couple hours, if you can shoot at that same time tomorrow morning and still be OK for your own schedule. You can move shot time back 15 minutes a cycle, or a half hour once every day. So you would be back on schedule in four days. If that doesn’t work, stay with the skip tonight.

I just got home and got another reading. He is still only 132 so I think I will hold off as I don’t want him to have a hypo episode.

Just for future reference, shooting a lower number doesn't mean they will necessarily end up at a lower number. Lantus (and Levemir and the biosimilars) are great at taking lower numbers and giving you flat cycles. One time when you can monitor, might be worth giving it a try. And I did see you shot full dose on 1/26 PM at a 126.

I just am a tad uncomfortable at 96. Mikey is quite a bouncer and I would hate him to have a hypo episode when I was sleeping. We have a good schedule of dosing- 5am and 5pm. Works perfectly with my schedule. If I gave him a shot at 7 or 8 that would be an issue and I would have to ween him back to 5:00

The information on SLGS dosing said to not dose if lower than 100, so I stuck with that. I realize there is no black and white with this

This applies only for people whose cats are new to insulin and do not have enough data on how their cats respond. If you can monitor, you can shoot any number over 90 with SLGS.

I wish I had know that 3hours earlier! It needs to be made more specific. To me, it does not read that way. Now I feel badly because Mikey will probably off the chart tomorrow am
 
Wendy did suggest shooting even at 126, but I assumed you skipped because you would not be able to monitor and didn't want to be off your schedule by 2 hours. You have shot a 130 before.

Lantus takes around 2 hours to onset. Next time, if you are gone only for an hour or two, you can shoot and feed a little higher carbs to keep him safe. You would anyway be back in an hour or two to check on him.
 
The Dosing Sticky, under the section on How to handle a lower than normal preshot number has two sections. The first starts "In the beginning" and the no shot is 200, not 100. The second part starts "With experience, ..." and does mention not shooting below 90. The key is experience and ability to monitor. There will be another time.

Good idea with the HC I never thought of that.
You are right. I had a meeting and knew I would be at least 2 hours, so I was hesitant. If I gave him a shot 2 hours late that would mess me up for the next morning. Mikey gets his am shot at 5:00 am. I have a weird schedule
I know I need to lighten up, but I get worried about hypoglycemia events. Thanks
