2/14/14 Jerry OTJ Trial Day 1 AMBG 105

Today is the day! Jerry's giving an OTJ trial a try, I've never been so nervous/excited.
AMBG 105, not too shabby so far.
I did have a question though... If the insulin runs in 3 day cycles/durations will it be possible to get a bad number in that time? Does it take 3 days to leave his system? I'd appreciate any additional tips or anything I should know. Thanks guys send us lots of luck! :-D
 
Hi Sarah and good luck to you and Jerry on the trial. Normally we wait until the first green preshot to start a trial, but he's close. It is not unusual for cats to get lots of blue during their trial, especially at first. Did someone give you the OTJ trial instructions yet?

What a great way to celebrate Valentine's Day.
 
Deb and Wink had posted some information for me but it either didn't include the information about a green preshot or I overlooked it. It was some good guidelines though so I have it saved in my favorites but beyond that I don't have a lot of solid go to information for OTJ trials. We did have a gorgeous night the other day of a green preshot and I thought for sure he'd have a higher nadir but it was a lower green. Then he pulled a Jerry, that's like his new trademark I know he certainly isn't the first to do a reverse nadir but it's really been his go-to thing. Gorgeous numbers then zonky and weird yet again so I listened to him hopefully we're right. I know the range he should be living in but I'm worried if it takes 3 days to see full effects when shooting if it's going to be in his system 3 days throwing off otj trial numbers. We're still confused by all of this but doing the best we can. Thank you very much for your support.
 
Don't worry about the 3 days Sarah...the OTJ trial is 14 days, so it really doesn't matter. Jerry was on such a tiny dose, he'll either stay in normal numbers throughout the trial or he won't.

Good luck with the trial!! It's been too long since we've had an OTJ kitty, so I hope Jerry starts a new trend of OTJ trials!

hi sarah! an exciting day for your house!

i don't remember what your feeding plan is - one thing that can help when you see a blue number, feed a little bit and test 3 hrs or so later. his pancreas should be kicking in and moving that initial number down into green territory, hopefully.

I'm glad you've the OTJ instructions. Try to post the AMBG and PMBG here each day. If the numbers creep up, people here will be able to tell you if he needs to resume insulin. Most kitties ready for OTJ trials have a bit more green in their SS, but maybe Jerry is one of those that just likes to run in slightly higher numbers. All paws crossed here.
 
We finished out the day strong PMBG at 95 - how exciting!!! :mrgreen:
I made it a point to keep him well fed today so hopefully that'll show in his numbers. I hope this day sets the pace for the trial and beyond. We'll be sure to post our day to day progress. Thank you all for your continued support and being a part of team Happy Cat! :mrgreen:
 
I hope he inspires other kitties and their owners too - he's setting a very good example. :mrgreen:
