2/12 condo and today's got lost in the shuffle. ohmygod_smile

Here's today's numbers anyway.

Very happy with Lucian's progress today and hope he continues to respond to the dose, at least to the point where I can actually do a curve on him in a couple days. His numbers have been so crazy, it was a waste of time to do one, IMHO.

Wishing everyone a great day and healthy and happy kitties! dancing_cat dancing_cat

Re: 2/13 Lucian AMPS 353,+3/302 Lost Post

Definitely looking much better...unfortunately Autumn seems to have decided to join him on the pink floor today, of course I can't really blame her, she had to go see the vetty bean this morning to get her predental bloodwork and xrays done...poor baby got poked and prodded all before breakfast and insulin...she is an unhappy girl and her numbers show it. <sigh> But on the upside she got carried around by her favorite tech (okay mom's favorite tech) and shown off to all the Doctors because they couldn't believe she was the same kitty I brought in last year to be shaved. They kept telling her how beautiful she was becoming...I think she would have rather had food than flattery...lol.

Re: 2/13 Lucian AMPS 353,+3/302 Lost Post

I was hoping for a +6, but he's still asleep and I so hate to wake him.
It makes me feel awful since he's not well, but will get another test whenever he wakes up, I'm not concerned that he is running too low or I WOULD wake him up  .

Poor Autumn! But a little flattery can go a long way with us females! ;-)

I'm excited for her, even thought I know it won't be an easy recovery, I have no doubt that she will be OTJ very soon after her little mouf heals. :-D

Healing blessings for you Autumn, you'll do great! :RAHCAT :RAHCAT

Re: 2/13 Lucian AMPS 353,+3/302 Lost Post

Autumn doesn't even notice when I sneak a test in on her when she is sleeping...lol...Of course she is super easy to test anyhow, she will come and jump up on her spot when she hears the meter beep on. In fact it is pretty hard to get a test on her when she is asleep unless I turn the meter on in a different room than where she is sleeping otherwise she hears the meter and wakes up to come to her spot to be tested...then I feel really bad, because I woke her up. But if I can get the meter on without her hearing it she will sleep right through the ear poke.

Nice steady drop today...that is a pretty sunny yellow you have there Mister Lucian.

Really glad to see that Venita and DCIN are going to help you out with insulin for your boy. BTW DCIN is who I adopted Maxwell, Musette and Autumn through and when Jon and my hearts are ready again we will go through them again when it is time for some little furry body to take over Onyx's food dish and place on the couch. :-D Although I would really like to get Autumn off the juice first...Getting too old to test and shoot two FD cats, plus its gonna be hard to fill Onyx's paw prints.

Please if you ever need anything for Lucian contact Venita, she is super as are all the folks that work with DCIN.

Re: 2/13 Lucian AMPS 353,+3/302,+7/278

Lord knows, Lucian is much more cooperative than he used to be, but there is no way he will let me do it while he's asleep. :o

I do still 'burrito' him. Just now, I was able to use a hand towel rather than a bath towel and he was fine with it. Smaller burrito. I haven't gotten the nerve to try it without a towel yet, but with the smaller towel, we're getting there. :-D

Like that sunny yellow, but still had to wake him up, he was sleeping so nicely too. I wanted something at least close to +6, so decided to wake him, wanted to see how he was doing. :-D I'm happy.

He had a couple treats and went right back to his spot where he was sleeping, didn't even stay up to eat. Must be feeling a bit better and enjoying his rest. :-D He's curled up and already back to sleep. :-D

Re: 2/13 Lucian AMPS 353,+3/302,+7/278

Oh yeah, Venita's kindness is overwhelming, literally put me in tears, just to know I won't run out of medicine for Lucian, not having an income right now.

I'll do without my own meds if it comes to it, that's just me.

His insulin should be here tomorrow, I'm so happy! :-D

I have a little over 1/3 of pen's worth and, again, today wasted about 3 units, with a syringe that didn't move smoothly, would stick, then jump and lose the insulin. TWICE. I was so angry, I threw it away and got another one, which was a little better. If this keeps up, I'll pay an extra couple $$ and get a different kind, this is the 4-5 time it's happened and I can't afford to waste anything. Only half way thru the box of syringes and it's happened that many times. Throwing out bad syringes is cheap, wasting insulin is not. :-x

You use the same type, do you ever have a problem with them or is it just me? I don't have much grip strength and that may be causing some of the issue, my hands/fingers don't work like they used to.

Re: 2/13 Lucian AMPS 353,+3/302,+7/278

Don't you wish you could fall asleep that easily after being woke up? I know I sure do..maybe its a guy thing..because the DH can do it too, me I just lay there and toss and turn for hours...lol.

It really depends on the batch it seems with the Relions I have gotten 1 box that works great and are extremely smooth on the plunger action, then I've gotten ones that I have tossed every other one because they were sticky. But since they are cheap and easy to get my hands on during the winter they are my go to syringes when weather is lousy and DH's hours are down. However, once the summer hours hit for him I love these http://www.americandiabeteswholesal...vetrx-half-unit-insulin-syringes_5739_112.htm but they are lousy once you get down to microdosing because of the triple bevel it is hard to get a bead of insulin to form..but for standard 1u, 1.25 or .5u they are awesome. Very smooth and easy to read.

The worst ones by far that I have used ironically were the most expensive and that was the monoject where I literally tossed 3/4 of a box because I could see the needle was rough, it looked twisted to the naked eye, so I wasn't about to use them on Musette.

Re: 2/13 Lucian AMPS 353,+3/302,+7/278

Oh I hear ya bout the sleep thing, so many times I'm so tired and can't go back to sleep, especially in the mornings, when I've had little sleep during the night, like last night, I didn't actually get into a 'real' sleep until after 4AM and really wanted to go BTB, but decided to go ahead and make coffee, take a 5000mc B-12 and stay up, since the chance was slim that I would be able to get back to sleep anyway. About 4 out of 5 times, I can't go back to sleep, but it's so nice when I can! I think that's why I hate to wake Lucian up, but he didn't seem to have any trouble going BTB! As much as he will wake me, I ought to return the favor!

I'll check out those syringes, these are really pi$$ing me off! I'm very frugal and wasting anything makes me mad. :-x And I don't have to worry about microdosing for a while yet, I'm sure.

Re: 2/13 Lucian AMPS 353,+3/302,+7/278

I'm the same way...I hate to waste anything, in fact I'm still trying to figure out a way to turn the dog's little wet food tubs into some kind of a crafty project so I can quit throwing them out too...lol. But hey they are nice little plastic tubs with lids, There should be something creative I can do with them just got to figure out what. Afterall I have turned 6 Tidy cat litter pails into cute trash cans for around the house, and a couple more have been converted into knitting and crocheting project yard holders (have to have a way to keep the kitties from 'helping' with mom's yarn). etc.

And don't tell, but I reuse old lancets as push pins on the cork board where we post the bills each month...frugal? who me? Nope know nothing about that...lol

Re: 2/13 Lucian AMPS 353,+3/302,+7/278

ROFL! OMG, we must be sisters from different mothers!  I won't repeat what my sons says about me, has to do with coal, diamonds and body orifice, I'm sure you've heard it before.

I love the tidy cat buckets, have 3 of them that I have household tools and supplies, i.e. hammer, screwdrivers, electrical tape, etc, in. They are SO handy! Only problem, is that I don't like Tidy Cat litter, so will only buy it if it's on an extreme sale and I have a coupon to go with it. :-D which hasn't happened in a long time, hence the reason I only have 3.

Seems like those little lidded containers would be great for holding other small craft supplies, beads, safety pins, sequins, etc or small stuff like paper clips. I love containers for everything, so small stuff doesn't get lost. :-D How big are they? My brain is visualizing something the size of Little Cesar dog food containers.

Those syringes are the 'pet' ones and are more expensive than the human ones, although have the same description from what I can see. Why would it be worth spending the extra $$ because it says 'pet'. What makes them better than the human ones? The human ones are only about $2 more than the Relion for 100 count box. Where the 'pet' ones are $6 more than Relion for 100. Why? Is there something I'm not seeing? :?: :?:

Re: 2/13 Lucian AMPS 353,+3/302,+7/278

The containers are 5 inches long, 4 inches wide and 2 inches deep they are from the Beneful prepared meals (the only thing the stupid drooler will eat) he goes through 1 a day mixed in with his dry Beneful food. The dog is actually pickier than the cats. :o

I dislike the Tidy cat litter but it seems to be the only one that all 14 cats can agree on using, but normally we buy it in the 40lb boxes rather than the pails because we go through 80lbs of litter a week, more if Autumn is running high which thankfully she doesn't do much of anymore. But before we found the boxes I aquired a ton of the pails, I use them for gardening, tools, trash cans etc.

Hmm haven't seen the human ones...give me a sec I'll look at both and see if I see a difference.

Re: 2/13 Lucian AMPS 353,+3/302,+7/278

Well what I see is it doesn't look like the human ones have half unit marks and it doesn't say anything about the triple bevel on the human ones either, but then again the Relions don't have a triple bevel either so not sure that really matters but they did slide in really easy when I used them on Musette as she was a tiny little thing with very thin skin...as oppose to Autumn who is a big girl with tough ex-barn cat skin. Musette was just so delicate compared to Maxwell and Autumn that she would really notice shots, Autumn could care less as long as there is food in front of her...lol.

Re: 2/13 Lucian AMPS 353,+3/302,+7/278

It may be helpful to push the plunger in and out a few times before drawing up the insulin.

Re: 2/13 Lucian AMPS 353,+3/302,+7/278

Yup, they have only a couple with 1/2 unit markings and the pet ones are too expensive, so I guess I'm stuck with the Relion until something better comes along that I can afford. That sux.
Lucian is not a 'manly' cat  he's pretty fine boned and a little delicate to be male, so I want the most comfortable that I can afford for him and that looks like the Relion, for lack of choices. Guess I'll keep looking around, never know what I might find. I know I read somewhere that there are syringes with the 1/4 dose markings, but they are really expensive. Wish I could remember where I saw that, just because I have seen people ask about them.

Lucian doesn't seem to mind his shots too much as long as he is busy having FD liver treats.

Those containers sound like they would be handy for all kinds of stuff, couldn't you paint them with acrylic paints or decorate them somehow? I think so. :-D

My cats will use whatever litter I buy and don't appear to care. I prefer unscented litter with baking soda. I hate the sickley perfumey smell mixed with cat waste smell, it just about gags me! I always go for unscented unless I am severely broke, then I get litter from Aldi discount grocery store that's 3.99 for 14# container. I dislike it, but it's cheap and I pour baking soda in it to wipe out some of the perfume odor ;-) and it works fine, just hate the smell. My cat's, right now, are going thru 20# a week, just got 28# box from Petsmart for $11 on sale. It's their house brand, Sophisticat, works fine and unscented, so I'm good with that. My personal favorite is Arm and Hammer, I think it's the best, in the unscented version, but it's too dang expensive. I'll pick up another 28# box when I go, probably tomorrow, while it's still on sale, gotta save every penny I can. :YMSIGH:

Ya know, Lucian hasn't eaten since noon, almost 6 hrs, but he did eat 3 times between 11 and 12 though. Amazing how much less he eats when his BG's aren't so high. I checked on him, he seems to be fine. :-D

Lord, have we taken over the 'relaxed' board today or what? Not like anyone else is ever here.

Re: 2/13 Lucian AMPS 353,+3/302,+7/278,+10/468 BOING!

OOOO! Big bounce! Numbers were so much lower, his body spazzed I guess. :o

Even a yellow is so much lower than what he's used to, caused him to bounce.

Tomorrow will be better, I have faith! :-D

Re: 2/13 Lucian AMPS 353,+3/302,+7/278,+10/468 BOING!

Its OURS all OURS....<insert evil laugh here>

Kinda expected that bounce, he was having just too good of a run. Now Lucian you get back down here, yellow is a fine color on you, it looks stunning against your silver coat...of course blue or green would set off your eyes more.

Kind of thinking of that with the containers, then thinking maybe using them to make either homemade soap or candles in to sell on Etsy which is like ebay but for handmade crafts.

Re: 2/13 Lucian AMPS 353,+3/302,+7/278,+10/468 BOING!

yeah, he thinks a 'superball'...remember those? ;-)

Those containers would work for soaps, would make like 4 big bars. (really big bars, unless you only filled them halfway, then they'd be more usable size) Had a friend that made soap, used bread loaf pan filled about 2 inches deep and sliced it like bread, for each bar. Don't know what they use to do that though, that cuts smooth and doesn't chip up the edges.......of course you can find it online, everything's online

Come on down here Lucian!! Can only imagine what his PMPS will be now, I'm expecting to get 'greeted'. :-x I just want him to level out some so I can do a curve. With the crazy bouncy numbers, I don't think it would yield any usable data. :YMSIGH:

Come on boy! Level off a bit for your momma bean!

Re: 2/13 Lucian AMPS 353,+3/302,+7/278,+10/468 BOING!

Well I was thinking more along the lines of using them to pack and ship the soap in, but making little like guest soaps maybe in kitty and puppy shapes. Although right now the molds I have are hearts and roses that I used for a friend's wedding awhile back, she used them for her Bride's maids gifts. But since they are dog food containers I was thinking pet shapes might be cute and they are sturdy enough to protect the soap in the mail. Lord knows I have a constant supply of them...lol. Silly dog it took us 3 years to find something that he would reliably eat, but then again he was a rescue and was never fed dog food as a pup just table scraps so we had to educate him on what real dogs eat. He's a great dog just not the brightest crayon in the box, but I defy anyone to break in this house and get out again intact. King loves everyone, but only after he has been introduce formally and mom & dad say its okay. Otherwise he will take your arm and leg off in a heartbeat, and DON'T MESS WITH HIS KITTIES!!!!

He is so funny with the cats, he loves them totally, yet will grumble and growl at them for sleeping on his bed, but won't make them get off instead he will sleep on the floor. However, if I or Jon get after one for doing something they aren't suppose to, King will get inbetween us and them...lol. No messing with his kitties, in fact that is how we ended up keeping Angel. Right before I found Angel Jon had brought home a little kitten that he found on the job, the little thing didn't stand a chance it was so flea ridden and dehydrated it didn't even have the strength to eat, but we tried to save it anyhow. King laid with it for the 3 days it lived and when it passed away he went into a deep depression, then I find Angel in the dumpster at work and bring her home. King was beside himself he was so happy to have a kitten that we just couldn't rehome her...lol So Angel is really King's cat, just no one ever told Angel that...lol

Greetings Earthling! Knew that was coming! :-x

 I thought you were going to use them to MAKE soap! ohmygod_smile  Would be a great shipping container for sure.

Aw, my Golden drooler, Chewie, was like that and was very close to Lucian. Lucian would lay by his head and wash his face and love on him, rubbing his face against the dog's. He'd curl up next to him and sleep all the time. He adored that dog and Chewie was so easy going, he just laid there and would reciprocate the love and snuggles. Lucian was very depressed when Chewie passed, he walked around the apt for days, making really strange mewing noises, wanting to know where Chewie was I guess, it was so sad. It took him quite a while to get over it. As if it wasn't hard enough on me, having him for 15 yrs, I had to watch Lucian mourn too. The other 2 cats showed nothing, like they didn't notice, but they weren't close to him. But poor Lucian was heart broken, he'd been with him all his life. It's so strange how some animals can become so attached to each other. I've had numerous siblings that were really tight, always together, too.

Well, almost time to shoot my cat!

Unable to get BG test @ pm+3, got error message. Tried 2 more times, unable to get blood, calling it a night. I-) I-)

Goodnight all!

Also, to express a small amount from a syringe when you overdraw insulin, instead of pushing the plunger, "screw" it in. That usually results in smaller, smoother plunger action.

So sorry I didn't see this post sooner. I was told, early on, when I first started using the syringes, to work the plunger a few times beforehand and to 'screw' it up when trying to get those small increments, so I've always done it that way. But for some reason, about once a week, they just want to hang up. After a couple tries, I toss it and get a new one, don't want to waste any more than absolutely necessary. I guess it's bound to happen with anything that is mass produced, you get a bad one once in a while.

Thanks ya'll!
