Garland is great! AMPS 202

Sorry guys, but I totally need to vent and i figured no one else would understand cat stuff but you guys. Hubs and I dont splurge on things very often. But a few years ago, my old comforter set finally gave out on us. It was one I had since 2001, so its time was definitely up. We decided to use our tax return and get a good one this time around. It would be our first time buying the bedroom stuff together, the first one in our house since getting married. (We had been using mine from college) I thought it kind of special. My hubs and I shopping for comforters, picking out paint for the bedroom. Romantic :smile: The first few years of us living there it was just bare white walls with a faded old comforter set, so this made our room feel like OUR room, ya know?

We picked out a super cute, classy, E X P E N S I V E gray blue one. Even bought all the fancy pillows to go with it. I love it!! Love it, love it love it!

We have only had it less than 3 years, and guess what happened.



CONNICK JUST PEED ALL OVER IT!!! PEE ON MY COMFORTER, PEE ON THE SHEETS, PEE ON THE MATTRESS AND EVEN PEE ON ONE OF THE PILLOWS!!! grr_red




I am so angry right now I have decided to have a glass of wine just to calm myself down. I cant believe he did that!!! Why on my bed??????

He has always had a "pee outside of the litter box problem". Since the day we brought him home at 6 weeks. We have taken him to the vet many many times. It basically boils down to ,he doesnt like litter. I cant leave piles of clothes on the floor anymore because then its a 100% guarantee he will pee on those... same with bath mats. No bath mats anywhere in my house. Rugs... We even had to block off the dining room because he was using a corner in there. But why my bed????????????? That is not somewhere he would usually do it either. I am shocked and totally upset. And professional cleaning of a comforter is so expensive. No way it will fit in the washer. And even then, as you all know, cat urine smell stays FOREVER AND EVER!! So now even if I were to replace the comforter later on in life, the mattress will always smell like pee. So gross. I will be sleeping on a pee mattress :cry:

:YMSIGH: Anyways. Just had to vent somewhere....

PS- before anyone asks, I did nothing to Connick as "punishment" or anything. I didnt even yell at him. But I think it will be a few hours before I can pet him again :cry:

Ohhhh, Connick, you are definitely on the $#!t list!

Libby posted a recipe for removing cat urine smell on Morgaine's condo. I think it was yesterday. Good luck!

Here's just a thought...I know you've had Connick checked out for urinary issues - but is it possible he may have some constipation issues? My civvie, Frankie, was having mild constipation, and her way of telling us was to pee in the cat beds. With 6 cats, Iit took us a while to figure out who it was...until she did it right in front of us. It was right after she had attempted to poo. After a vetty visit, we started her on a very low dose of miralax, and she hasn't done it since.

I've also heard good things about Cat Attract litter...have you tried that one?

Of course, there are all the other tricks that you're probably familiar with - cover boxes that aren't covered, uncover boxes that are covered, have at least 3 boxes available...

There are also some commercial products that are good. Zero Odor is one that people have mentioned.

I'd check with Lisa/Do Lou. Lisa breeds Abyssinians. She has intact males. I'm sure she has cats that spray. She will know how to get rid of the odor!

Violet, vent away! Go ahead and have that glass of wine; you deserve it. That's a good suggestion from Sienne with Lisa and do Lou.

I think you will get the smell out with the advice already given but here is an out of the box suggestion for you for the lb. Have you tried putting an old towel in it instead of litter? My rabbit uses cat litter boxes but instead of putting litter in I put a few sheets of newspaper and then a piece of towel (folded to double) on top of the paper. I have a nappy bucket to put all the soiled towels in and then one gross load of washing per week. Might be worth a try since Connick seems to prefer material.

Good work not yelling, I think I might have yelled!

This stuff saved my mattress when Atlas pee'd on it as an unregulated diabetic cat.

And it saved the foster room when I brought Gary in as an intact spraying male!

And I recently had a client with 14 cats use this in her whole house while they were on vacation. She thought she would come home to a house that was all "pissed-up." Not on my company's watch. ;-) . I left her a full concentrate bottle.

Second...buy some mattress covers!

Thanks everyone for all the advice!!! And thanks for letting me vent. Once the kids get in bed I am gonna re-read through all your posts and figure out which trick to try first.

I am still so upset. He peed right in the middle of the bed. Ugh. My pretty pretty comforter. I hope its not ruined.....

We had a mattress cover on the mattress up until about 6 months ago, but I washed/dryed it wrong, so I ruined it. We havent been able to afford a replacement yet. So far Ive washed the part of the comforter he peed on in the sink with detergent and pet stain remover and layed it out to dry. Im hoping that will work. But I dont think I will know for sure until its all the way dry... maybe in the morning. The mattress on the other hand..... :-| Yuck.

A funny note about Garland. Around 4, I packed up the kids to take them to Charlotte's tumbling class. My DH got home at 530 and called me. Garland was outside in the backyard. She must have slipped out the front when I was buckling the kids in the car. She's so sneaky!! :lol: Im just glad she knows which house is ours and didnt go far. And Im sure once she got out there, she immediately regretted it --->> Its snowing ;-)

You know, Ive actually considered that in the past... i wonder if he would use a box with a towel?? hmm.... May be worth a try. Because after 12 years, im soooo tired of cleaning up cat pee. ugh

I have a client that has three litter boxes, but one cat won't use regular litter.

She will only use the pine stuff, not the nuggets, just the pine dust. He figures it is because it is softer on her feet?

Yea, Connick HATES all litter. When he does use the box, he tiptoes very lightly in it, pees and runs as fast as he can away from it. I have never seen him "dig". I once tried the pine stuff, he didnt like that either. But a pile of clothes on the floor... every time
 
PMPS 301 <<---- She had a few licks of vanilla icing. I was making my daughters valentine treats for her MDO class, and Garland got into the icing bowl in the sink before I could rinse it out
 
Violet...I'm really sorry to hear this about Connick....lots of good suggestions. My stepdaughter had a cat that wouldn't use the box and the Cat Attract litter did the trick.

I'm sure the answer to this question is "no" but just have to ask if he's declawed? A lot of declawed cats won't use the LB because it hurt their feet initially after the surgery and they remember it. I can't tell you the number of cats turned into the cat shelter where we volunteered because they would not use the box.....most all were declawed.

I have to say you are an absolute saint and you more than deserved that glass of wine. Hope the smell comes out. Sending you big hugs.
 
Yuck on the comforter. :sad: That really sucks. My Bailey went through a phase where she didn't want to touch litter. We set up a box that was mostly empty, just a little litter in one corner, and with a magazine or something propped under it so that pee would drain towards the litter (hope this makes sense!). That is another possibility for you guys. Also, if this is something he does a lot, you could try Prozac - it works really well for LB issues. For the cat, not for you - stick with the wine for yourself! ;-) :lol:
