Fortune and DH are sleeping in, and I will check his +3 soon. Let him come down safely, have a normal amount of thirst, and no nausea!!

Wanted to share that today is Fortune's 15th birthday. I could post thousands of pictures of him, and talk about his mischievous, loving, and special personality, but I tried to be brief. I have cried many tears into his fur over the years - including last night - and he still comes over to comfort me even when he isn't feeling well.

He loves people, as long as you give him attention and pet him correctly, and has always been a resilient kitty. I found him on the street when he was three months old and I was 19 and had no idea what I was doing. He taught me everything, including how to be a mom. He is half of my heart, and I am so glad I listened to my gut and kept him. Now my husband is just as crazy about Fortune as I am, and they have their own special bond, too. I find myswlf just basking in gratitude for him today!

I love the pictures! Are you going to get some ondansetron today? It really worked for Max. If the patch stopped working do you think he’s in any pain? Happy 15th dear Fortune. I tried to look at the records but all I get is the picture.;)

If I want ondansetron I think I have to take him to the ER :( The surgeon wants him to be seen and have lab work done if he is still nauseous, because of the concern for anemia and his left kidney functioning properly without his right. I’m not sure if he is in pain, though I’m trying to pay super close attention. Last night I called the ER and was nervous about bringing him in again and he perked up and sat on me.

My GP has ghosted us - I haven’t heard from him since last Wednesday, and neither have any of the specialists that have called him last Saturday, Wednesday and Thursday (they were told he was in appointments). He is usually terrific about calling after hours for things like test results, so I cannot imagine why he is MIA, but it makes me feel like I am stuck if I don’t take Fortune the 45 min to Red Bank for at least a 6 hour ordeal.

I’m watching and waiting. His BG did spike, so I may bring him in anyway for pain relief.

Morning Rachel ,Happy Birthday sweet Fortune!!
Rachel they are such beautiful pics of you and Fortune
Made me cry reading what you wrote
Bless you little guy, you are a fighter!
Enjoy your birthday Fortune
You and DH are awesome parents Rachel
Give Fortune a big kiss for me ok ♥:bighug::bighug::bighug:

That’s awful. Why they won’t give something as simple as ondansetron a try is beyond me. I wouldn’t want to bring him back so soon to the ER either. :bighug:

HBD Fortune! You and he are very lucky to have found one another. By the way, how did he get his name? There is a Chinese custom of naming one's pets so they bring them good fortune.

I am not sure what inspired me to pick his name, but it really fit him and he has grown into it well :)

Please keep us posted Rachel, so he doesn't have any other pain meds right now
I know the surgeon told you to take the F patch off.
This poor kitty has been thru enough.
Please keep us posted ♥:bighug:

Happy birthday Fortune, what a cute little snuggler.:)

If a cat has been seen recently by a vet, they shouldn't need to see him again just for a prescription. My vets were fine with that.

Poor little guy looks like he's bouncing big time from last night, or it's still part of that bounce from the 11th.

So Fortune is back in the hospital. He was admitted for a blood transfusion and fluids based on his clinical demaner (he was compliant, lol), possibly an ultrasound of his kidney tomorrow. He is also getting some pain meds and anti-nausea.

We brought him in because we didn't want to risk the lethargy, nausea, generally feeling crappy, high BG and excessive drinking and peeing being caused by something more sinister. Now we just wait and pray that he responds well to treatment, and that whatever is causing the anemia is very treatable.

His kidney values went up dramatically - his creatinine was 2.34 on Wednesday 2/10, and it's 4 today. The ER doctor said that could be because of a progression in his kidney disease because the kidney that was removed was working better than the one remaining; it could also be due to an infection or in less likely, dehydration. She doesn't think the diabetes is exacerbating the condition, but possibly contributing to him feeling unwell.

I hate how hard this is on him, and I really hope this is the last time he is hospitalized over night because he does well. On the ride over I noticed something switched - instead of coming to sit in my lap, he scooched back in his carrier. :( I had been second guessing my decision to bring him - because of course I want to manage his symptoms at home - but seeing that change solidified my choice.

I asked that he be fed a little extra after his transfusion because it's his birthday. :)

The doctor does not think this is the end - she thinks that we can re-evaluate how he does after the transfusion. So please think of Fortune and him having a positive response to the treatment!!
