Well these numbers are just terrible. And I think Blackie is retaining fluids from the pred. I weighed Blackie this morning after peeing, before food which is when I usually weigh him. He weighed 6.8 oz more than 2 days ago. I didn't give fluids last night or this morning, but he does look a little dehydrated. I'm thinking about giving him 50ml of fluids a little later, but I don't know if I should. He did eat really well last night, so part of the weight could be food. He seems fine, no trouble breathing, no swelling in his feet and he is still eating well.

I'm going to talk to the vet about stopping the Pred. Blackie is peeing a lot more than usual and he has had several litter box accidents (another one this morning). And its only marginally helped his appetite. I have an appt for more bloodwork on Tues.

Does anyone know any other tests I should have done? Could the pancreatitis last this long? Or is there something else going on that we don't know about?

Hi Ele, I'm very sorry that I can't answer any of your questions. I hope that someone who can will be along soon. But Blackie sounds as if he is not in pain or anything. The excessive peeing could be because his numbers are high? Anyway, good luck with the additional bloodwork on Tuesday. We are sending vines and thinking good thoughts.

Ele,
from asking in the pancreatitis forum and having been a member there since Nov2008...each and everyone (though they all say ECID) have said that the flare ups do not last this long...the absolute max time is a couple of weeks and with pain meds it does go away...though it can flare up again at a moments notice...

IMHO, Blackie does not have a flare up...it can't possibly last this long..but then again i'm no vet...if you were to get another fPLI it may give you the answer you are looking for...but if you read the other forums info on flare ups the fPLI it's a snapshot only...i really wished i had answers for you...

i think perhaps you need to get an ultrasound done on Blackie if you haven't gotten one in the recent past...if it's anything i learned with Rocket...all his bloodwork done did not show a thing...yeah sure it showed his fPLI up in Nov and still midly elevated in Jan but down from Nov...and look at the findings we got on Feb 2....i'm not saying Blackie has what Rocket has...but at this point you really need to get more than just bloodwork.....

just a thought...

i'm only telling you what i have gone thru with Rocket...yes the lack of appetite is there due to their CRF, yes they are prone to UTIs more so now with the pred and their CRF....but at this point you have tried (like me) to get him to eat and be back to himself and it's not working...

getting an ultrasound may give you more information and give you more options to better treat Blackie....

i hope it helps...and i'm sorry you too are going thru this...it is frustrating the unknowns...

keeping you and Blackie in my daily prayers as always...

ps...thank you for thinking of Rocket and visiting our condo...sorry if i don't always make it to yours...

hang in there...you are doing a great job with Blackie...

Gosh Ele, I'm so sorry Blackie still isn't feeling well. I think if it were me, I'd think like Claudia and do further investigating, in whatever form that may be. I'm no expert on pancreatitis, but this does seem way too long to be that.

Re: 2/13 Blackie amps 352 +2 361 +6 316

(((Ele))) It sounds like it is time to taper off the pred if he is having bad side effects and there is no improvement. You might consider getting a sterile urine specimen for culture when you are at the vet's.

Re: 2/13 Blackie amps 352 pmps 285

Once again, Blackie would not eat at pmps except for a small amount. I didn't decrease his pred because I don't want to do that without talking to the vet. I will get a u/a this week too and I'm going to see if I can get an appt for tomorrow instead of Tuesday. Blackie did eat well most of the day, though, so I was pleased with that. But tonight he looks like he doesn't feel good. I'll try to feed him again soon.

Re: 2/13 Blackie amps 352 pmps 285

Sounds like the pred may not be the answer for Blackie Ele good luck with changing his appt to tomorrow Do Lou and I are sending lots of healing vines and snowflakes for him to get better and ((((HUGS))) for you

((Ele)) - I am so sorry that Blackie isn't feeling well. I wish I had some answers for you - I just don't know what else you could have done, or should do. I hope the vet can help you figure this all out.

I hope too that you have a great rest of the day.

Be better Blackie!

Re: 2/13 Blackie amps 352 pmps 285

I gave Blackie 50ml of fluids and he ate with a little help from chickie dust. I think I'm going to call my old vet in the am and see if I can get Blackie in for a cysto and C&S and then do a consult. My current vet doesn't do cultures - last time I insisted I had to drive the slide to a lab. ohmygod_smile I really like this vet, but do wonder if he's very experienced in ultrasounds too.
