I guess the threads from yesterday and today are lost?

Started insulin this morning -- .25U. I am out for the rest of the day until PMPS. Hubby has been instructed to test and feed MC if his numbers drop below 50.
Thinking of Michelle, Tony, Sabrina, Lyresa and DH. Healing vines out to all puds who need them.

Re: 2/13/13 Kismet AMPS 132, +1 144, +2 119 Advice plz

Hubby called and said Kismet was acting very lethargic and didn't want to play their favorite game, so he was concerned. He tried getting a blood sample but couldn't get a big enough drop, and after 4/5 pokies, Kismet started crying so he gave up. I told him to feed 1/2 tsp of MC @+6.5 and see how he did. 5 minutes later, he was his normal happy self. Hubby had to leave for work, so I came home really quick so I could check on him.

I am home for the next 20 minutes before I have to rush off to class. I tested Kismet @ +7.5, and got 62. I don't know if this is a bounce or surf or what. I am going to test again before I leave. Should I feed another tsp or leave some food out for him? I'm afraid he might drop and no one will be home.

Sorry this response is so late. I would have left a bit of food out.
I have noticed (with J.D., anyway) that when he is in lower numbers for him (under 100) that I have a hard time getting a blood droplet to form. I don't know if it's just something J.D. seems to do..

I'd probably leave out some LC and/or MC since no one will be around. Chances are that numbers will be going up but you never know.

What was with those greens last night? Were you doing anything differently?

Re: 2/13/13 Kismet PMPS 178

Thanks for the advice, Dyana and Sienne. I left out a few spoonfuls of LC for him, just to be safe.

Sienne -- I have no idea what was going on last night. He went from 408 in the morning to 83 at night? The only thing different was that he had another asthma attack and he had a puff of albuterol (rescue inhaler) and a puff of flovent. I am fairly certain the elevated bg we are seeing is from the stress of the asthma. Perhaps treating the asthma is helping lower those numbers? The doc doesn't want us to treat with flovent and just stick with the albuterol, though, I think it may have helped.

Re: 2/13/13 Kismet PMPS 178

I'm just wondering if there's a pattern with Kismet's asthma -- he starts to get stressed and once treated, his numbers come down. I'd keep track of when he's getting his albuterol.

Re: 2/13/13 Kismet PMPS 178

That's what I was thinking too. I have a separate written diary I keep where I write down everything.

There is definitely a correlation between his asthma and diabetes. When he was dx last September, I'd taken him to the vet for the sudden onset of the asthma symptoms. At the time, he was not exhibiting any symptoms of diabetes. It wasn't until a week or so of having asthma that he began to start to drink and urinate a lot.

The same thing happened a few days ago. He was a little wheezy, so I checked his bg and got that high reading, at the time, he wasn't showing any symptoms of diabetes. Yesterday was actually the first time I've seen him drink water in months, and he left a couple of nice puddles in the box. The vet said that it is not unusual for the stress from one condition to trigger the other, I just don't know which occurs first. Last week, he was fine. I've been testing his urine 2-3xs a week since OTJ.

So far, no asthma attacks, wheezing, or coughing today. We'll see how he goes!

Let's hope you can get both back under control really soon.

Thanks for visiting us today and wishing Gracie well. :-D

Re: 2/13/13 Kismet PMPS 178, +2 242, +3 213

Thanks, Marje, I hope so too. I am flummoxed by his numbers these past couple of days... he is all over the place. I'm wondering if the high numbers tonight are a result of the food? I'd instructed hubby to give MC, but he gave him FF Grilled Beef Feast Gravy (17% carbs); he thought he'd given him the chicken which is 12. Silly DH. At least he tried to test today on his own, though. I will make him a FD expert yet!

Kismet may also be slightly asthmatic tonight. He was just sleeping on my feet and was a little wheezy, so that may also account for these higher numbers. I am going to hit the sack in an hour after I grab one more reading, I am spent. DH just had to have some polyps removed, and I was dx with hyperthyrodisim a week ago and just started a new medication which is making me feel fatigued and nauseous all the time ugh. We three are definitely in sync, lol. It's kismet, you might say ;-)

I hope you and your sweet Gracie have a great night!
