Hi Everyone,

Rusty is doing well today. He had a good night. Ate all his nighttime food. Schmoozed with his mamabean this morning, and is about to be "served" his second sitting of breakfast.

Beans decided to stay home today because it is getting much colder by the minute and is very windy. Temp. is heading to zero in a few hours.

bbl, The HaushaltMeister is calling me!

oh.... is the master of the house being demanding?

Looks like he's just taking a short dinner break then back to the Meistering :D:D:D

I too have cooler weather here today, not enough to get me out of my shorts but enough so that if I have another incident with the strips they shouldn't stick to me - but it's still only early :)

Hi again,
I got an e-mail reply from Newman's Own with regard to the 95% Turkey Dinner, but the figures didn't make any sense to me. Here's the reply I got:

"The typical dry matter content of a 5.5 oz (155 gm) can of 95% organic grain free turkey dinner is 19g of protein, 18 g fat, 2 g carbohydrates, 1 gram vitamins, minerals and supplemental amino acids and 115 gm water. The 95% organic grain-free canned foods are lower in carbohydrates than the other varieties.
Proteins and carbohydrates each supply 23% of calories and fat provides 54%
."

23% of carbs, and protein and carbs the same percentage??? How does that jibe with 19 grams of protein and 2 grams of carbs in the dry matter content? I guess I don't understand this at all. I tried to work it out with Dr. Lisa's calculation methods and nothing worked out. (but I do admit to being a math cripple).

Anyway, Rusty seemed to like the small portion of Newman's Own 95% Chicken and Chicken Liver that I gave him. We'll see what it does to his bgs. (I asked them for the typical nutrient analysis of both formulas, but they only sent the turkey.)

Hope everyone is having a good evening,

Ella & Rusty

Multi talented little boy, Rusty. Master of the Lagoon. Master of the House. Hmmm, I'm thinking you're quite simply the Master of all! As it should be.

Sorry about the cold keeping you off the snowshoes. But, a good day to stay cozy.

Well, using Janet's calculator with those DMB numbers, I'm getting about 30% calories from protein, 67% calories from fat, and 3% calories from carbs.

Ann and I were just PMing back and forth and lamenting why these companies can't just provide as-feds and make it easy. They should be able to. We got the Ziwipeak sample cans today and they have as-feds on their website. Finally! A company that believes in transparency.

Also wanted to tell you that Dr. B took Tobey off the Allerplex as he's been really snuffly lately and he tested really low for it (3 out of 10) and put him on Cyruta Plus. The difference is, though, that Tobey tests for a retrovirus in his gums and it's that RV that is causing his respiratory snuffles. The Cyruta Plus is supposed to help address the RV.

Cinco told me the Lagoonmeister was watching over him today. So nice knowing he's there! Looks like he's planning to work tonight, too.

I have a mega headache from trying to figure out the carbs and phosphorus from the info these companies give, too. We got the Powerpate today from Only Natural Pet and I served the chicken tonight - EVERYONE liked it!! So now I'm trying to be sure the info I came up with is correct. I get 9% carbs, which is higher than I like to go unless Cinco is dropping and I want to slow him down. The Phos looks like it's in the mid 200s, but I'm not sure. ARGH!!!! Why is this so complicated?????

Sorry about the snowshoeing today, but I'm sure there'll be plenty of chances this winter.

@Marje and Gracie : Thank you!!! The Newman's is pretty high in fat, but Rusty needs fat right now! He likes the food (at least he liked it today). I'm going to get up my courage and give the ZiwiPeak (I have the rabbit and the lamb) a try. We'll see about the green mussels.
Interesting about Tobey and Allerplex. Rusty is taking it again and seems to be doing OK. Next week we have our appointment with the IM specialist in Vermont (and Rusty will have an ultrasound--poor guy will lose his belly fur in this cold winter weather).

The deer family is snuggled in their snow beds. They were there this late afternoon, about 5 of them, their heads up, watching me. But none of them got up!

Thanks for visiting, everyone. The HaushaltMeister (aka Major Domo) is ready for bed, too. The LagoonMeister looks like he's poised at the edge of the lagoon. Nice, flat, low-blue, high green cycle today.

You're welcome, Ella. Seems like a lot of foods are in that 60% fat range. If it's low carb, they have to make it up by being higher in protein or fat and it's cheaper to make it higher in fat. I'm also hoping the mussel does not affect Gracie but I got the ziwipeak today and she is loving the beef.

I sure hope the ultrasound has totally normal findings....

So cool to see those deer, I bet. Have a great night!
