Hi everyone! It is good to see old compadres again. I'm glad to see so many kitties and their people doing well. Benny is still doing well too. I did not get his bg value this morning but I have a question.

He has started caterwauling at night with that heartbreaking moan "ohmyGODisanyoneTHERE can you HELP ME help me PLEASE!?!" He otherwise looks and acts perfectly well. I took him into the vet and she said his thyroid is fine, and all his other systems were green-lighted before the dental last month, so he's probably just starting to get a touch of kitty dementia. She also felt he might be in some pain somewhere. She prescribed Sam-e to slow down the cognitive effects and gabapentin to see if it makes him more comfortable.

Does anyone have any thoughts about the impact of these meds on his FD? The gabapentin comes in a meat-flavored chew, but I can get it in a pill form too, I think. The Sam-e, I'm not sure about. Would the daily chew have an impact on his carb level? I know it's just one chew, but I'm always going to be a big believer in the low carb life for him, so wanted to see what you all thought.

Hi Catherine, it's good to hear from you. Sorry for the delay in responding to your original post!

I was taking Sam-e for some knee issues a few years back but I do not have any experience with it in cats. You want the pill form of Gabapentin. The chew will likely be high carb and you want to avoid that.

Ohh benny! Sending him and you well wishes

Bella takes the liquid form of Gabapentin, she has it twice a day, I did not notice any effect on her bg but she is on insulin. She takes it with food.

Thanks, Bhooma. :) Sorry to hear about your knee--I hope that is all resolved now!

We both say thank you. :D

That's great to know! I think I will ask the vet for the liquid Gabapentin instead of the chew or pill, she did not mention it coming in that form. Thanks for the info!
